Then please could you (or anyone out there at all really) explain why this site has been down for 2 whole days?

Unless it was just because they wanted to update it, and that it was a sheer coincidence that 2 downtimes occured at the same time.
But again..... I'm only guessing really.

FFXI never had a 'downtime' during this period. They did an update on 01/18 that was automatically installed the next time PS2 users logged in to FFXI. It did not affect POL as the update was a small change to FFXI itself. At no point was there any maintenance that required downtime in either POL or FFXI.

The update didn't even happen at the same time as the maintenance and updates to these forums anyway. The FFXI update was done at 1:00pm pst on 1/18/08. This site was updated from the evening of 1/18/08 until the evening of 1/20/08. Though I can understand if it seemed like there was a bit of an overlap if you're in the UK.
