Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Nov. 28)
Maybe with higher recon you'll get warning messages like Besieged. Obviously fighting blind sucks - but if they're going to implement recon at all, not doing any recon *should* suck, or what would be the point of doing it?
If everyone (or everyone in a past mercenary unit) knows where the orcs are going and when they'll get there as soon as they step out of Davoi (or maybe even sooner, while they're still mustering their forces), that'd be very different.
<SystemMessage> Allied Forces spies report that Conqueror Bakgodek is planning to attack the San d'Orian base in Jugner Forest. The Orcish Hosts are estimated to arrive in 18 hours (43 minutes Earth time).
If recon *doesn't* do that or something like it, it damn well should; but until we know what it does do, it seems premature to criticize SE because armies with no recon are stuck reacting to enemy attacks after they happen. Duh, that's what happens to armies with no recon; that's why real armies, if they are competent, scout and spy on their enemies *constantly*.
Comparing the monster difficulty to Besieged is funny, though. How many servers lose the AC even once a month? Level 8 Besieged is a freaking joke - there's one or two difficult mobs, which you don't have to kill to win, some minor NMs that take a little teamwork to beat, and a bunch of trash mobs which might one-shot a couple people before their inevitable deaths, or they might not. If the Shadowlord's armies were *that* weak, it wouldn't be a war at all; Maat would just solo them and go home. Of course Campaign is going to be harder.
