    The Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc will introduce an entirely new way to play FINAL FANTASY XI--“Assault” missions!

    The FINAL FANTASY XI development team created the "Assault" system to provide a means of casual enjoyment for high-level players--the main target audience of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc. Assault allows for parties of three to six members to enjoy gameplay that does not last a long period of time and requires little recruitment effort. Players can choose the location, decide whether or not to impose a level restriction, and select the type of Assault mission to fit with their objectives and party organization.

    Players who often participate in Assault missions will earn "Imperial Standing" credits, which can be traded for items in the various Assault locations. In addition, players who succeed in an Assault mission have the possibility of obtaining a mysterious item. After receiving an appraisal in town, the mysterious item will then be displayed as a normal item.

    Repeat success in Assault will also raise your mercenary rank, which will even further increase the number and variety of available Assault missions!

    Sweet, just the thing my friends and I have been looking for. Fun and excitement w/o a huge hassel.

        I like it! This game needs a good dose of casual gameplay, y'know? And the Mercenary Rank seems slightly reminiscent of SeeD Rank from FFVIII. I'm looking forward to it!

            Me and my wife are stooooooooooooooooked about this. Finally something to do with us and 1-2 friends.

              Me and my wife are stooooooooooooooooked about this. Finally something to do with us and 1-2 friends.
              At level 75, there is a lot of things you can do with 4 people(with a NIN, this is most true).

                Do we get paid every so often just like in FFVIII? T_T. Allowance / Salary, yes please.

                  With this, Limbus, escorts, ENMs, and the random attacks on the city how could you NOT have something to do after the expansion at any given time.

                  This looks awesome, can hardly wait.

                    Looks promising. I will definatley give it a try. I dont do ballista that much, so im hoping for this to be refreshing!!

                      It seems like an expanded BCNM-ish setup. We can already do BCNMs in a 3 person group, but this sounds to expand on it. Also, it creates a opportunity to gain R/EX items it sounds. Like cursed gear and abjurations, you now get an R/EX item and depend on an NPC for the appraisal, gil goes to NPC instead of another player.

                      Not only does it help the casual player, it restricts people from using zerg-zerg-zerg to solve a problem(like some HNMLS's). And the possible level capping helps make this an opportunity for a wider range of players, even the lvl75s. They may go in with a job they like that isn't 75(a 75DRK going as his 60SAM instead). Encourages diversity in gameplay, up to a point.

                        I agree, the idea looks promising, lets see how this actually works! I have tried ballista many times and I simply dont enjoy it. I am sure its becuase i am a summoner, and that is my only 75 job, but still.

                          People will find a way to complain heh, Its what people do ^^.

                          I think Im the only Summoner I know who hasnt had the real tiem to get Diabolos yet I dont complain, but to hear it from other Summoners hehe...

                          Thats what I was thinking as I read it ^^. Im glad FFVIII was released, its influence on later FF games will leave a longer impression then the "fan" fave FFvii

                            Yeah, especially with my wife being a BRD also. Unfortunately we just recently dinged 70 so haven't begun the End-Game stuff as yet. We're more stoked as for the timing of our getting to this level. Right on time to experience all the great things the expansion has to offer, especially Assault.

                            I'm curious as to the equipment you receive that you have to get "Appraised". From what I understand you'll get an unusable piece of equipment from succeeding @ the Assault and then when you get it appraised by an NPC it becomes usable. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

                              Oxymoron? I don't quite know if I understand this...do you have to be a high-level to decide whether you can level restrict or not...?

                              Either way, this sounds very fun. If low level players can participate in the capped areas, the idea to make caps optional is probably the greatest idea by SE since sliced bread. This also leads me to believe these areas are instanced.
