It's not just that, it's that a lot of people that have PS3s will be forced to buy the game twice in order to play it on their PCs. It's got nothing to do with fanboyism-- I think most people here would agree that PC is no longer the best gaming console. And whether we prefer our Nintendo, Sony, or MS products, we agree that this is a huge betrayal of their global release claims. However, if you prefer playing MMOs on PC, SE just screwed you over. If you want proof that this isn't just fanboy raeg, I don't own a PS3 or PC capable of playing FFXIV, nor do I have any interest in playing FF14. That doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on this-- it's a dick move. Simple as that.

There's also the fact that a PC capable of FF14 ain't gonna be cheap. The difference between consoles this generation was $350 at worst; the most expensive one was $600. If you're looking to play FF14 from the get go, chances are you're going to need a computer getting even higher than that, long after the consoles halved in price. And there is no valid reason to do this; they could easily hold the PC version back until the PS3 version is ready to go.

Sure they can, just not by being stupid. Plenty of people on this forum have done it, but "haha, I have lots of money to spend on vidja games so SE being dicks doesn't make a difference to me, stop QQing as if this makes a difference" isn't an argument. It's thoughtless at best, elitist at worst.

No one can win with you, can they, Feba? I guess you've worded it in a way that I have no choice but to say, "yes". Therefore, if my only hope to play this game was on PS3, I would be very upset about the current timeframe for release.

It is for occurrences such as this that I make it a point to have every major gaming device of every generation, so that I don't get anal raped by the musings of publishers. Having all 6 platforms (3 Consoles, PC and both Handhelds) allows me to be objective in my statements and not blinded by a fanboyish rage. It's easy to get defensive for one's own home turf, but I see it as there are too many difference on the various consoles to only limit oneself to a solitary camp.

As a gamer I come out on top, but my pockets take a hit. I'm willing to take that trade-off. The hardest decision I had to make was whether or not I got Fallout 3 on PC, XB360 or PS3 (I'm getting it on PC since it supports Games For Windows Live, and I can get my shiny Achievements).

I would be much happier. I would get it for the PS3 in a second. I wouldn't really worry about not getting it on PC, but I may have to drop 80$ on the CE one for the PC just to get the few extra items, and all the great artwork.

I'm so impartial to the tone half of this thread has taken because I dumped so much money into my PC rig. Those are the hands we're dealt, folks. For whatever reason, the game isn't being launched on the PS3 and PC at the same time.

We can speculate, but no one really knows.

The benefit? Well I KNOW I'm getting the game, but since much of my friends are still playing FFXI and other games, they can look at me playing and determine if they really want it.

Also, give the wiki time to get populated, for fucks sake. Being first is awesome and all, but I'd rather be in the second wave where people know what's to be expected after watching the first wave trailblaze.

Besides; no one cares about who was the First to do shit on the intarwebs. That's why people who post "First" are so gad damned annoying.

I'm sure whoever got to level 80 the quickest felt really super about themselves after that proceeded to sleep for 14 hours and/or tell their mom that they're sorry for not taking out the trash.

Many people are inherently lazy. If they can find an easier way of doing/obtaining something they'll take it. I just can't see SE making the game so easy that a gil seller would be a redundancy.

with more ways to make gil and being able to solo better, I think there will be less reason for people to hire gil sellers.

If they get raided by the police (it's still a very real possibility in communist china ... they can get taken down for circumventing state run firewall, for example and the fact that foreigners seem to be in collaboration with these people will make them even more suspicious) they need to make sure they don't have any records of anything they've done.

That being said, no one is stupid to be using the same account and trawling a lot with it. You have to use it, make your buck, dump it. Move on to the next. This is how you should do it and how the pros have done it for a while. Only amateurs would keep a main account and store their entire sum in it. Ask any underworld criminals (i.e., Mafia) and they'll tell you the same thing. It's basically money laundering in digital form.

Also remember this was all at the height of their operations. When SE cracked down on them, there were a lot of revenue lost (billions of gils), as well as the small timers being impacted a lot more than bigger companies (IGE for one managed to survive) This was also back before people were sloppy about personal security and back before they had things like an authenticator. With better security, smarter players and a better game design, these guys will have a more difficult time running their operations and thus will commit even more heinous and illegal activities in order to turn a profit. The expense of the account only serves to add an additional hindrance for these guys.

I'd be happy to go indepth with this topic as I've had numerous run-ins with these guys and have managed to help Blizzard with a ring of them in one instance where a rash of account thefts occurred on the server I was on. I had several friends that got their account taken from them and it isn't hard to do. One good example of this: If any of you had registered with Ars Technica at anytime around 2 to 8 years ago, if you're still using that email for other things, you might have been compromised. Their old datacenter contractor got compromised and 50,000 (or possibly even more, no one knows) emails were stolen as well as password information and personal information. This happens a lot (look at AT&T/Apple and their bungle with the iPad recently)
You're going off on a tangent. The comment I made was that charging slightly higher fees isn't going to stop gil sellers, its just common sense. If there is money to be made, they'll be doing it. Unless SE makes some other major changes, they'll be back even if they have to pay a dollar or two more per account. They made a killing with FFXI and there is no getting around that, if they weren't making money then they certainly wouldn't have been an issue for SE to deal with. And, regardless, this is just speculation since the game isn't even released yet. Maybe SE will have found the holy grail to have stopped gil sellers in their tracks.....one can dream....

It also seems like the standard edition doesn't have a 30 day free trial. Personally, I'd rather have the goggles then the helmet (for looks more then anything) but the CE does offer a much better value right off the bat. It basically boils down to 60 days (no more being billed by month) for 75 bucks or 30 days for 50, not even including all the other CE items that come with it. Though I don't know what I'd do with a second security token, I was just going to use the one I have for XIV.

........of course getting this stuff all depends on whether or not I can get my PC to even run the game in a decent manner. Which according to the benchmark, I can't.

JP only comments are usually due to communication ability rather than elitism. FFXI has been out long enough for for players in all regions to be of a similar skill level.

Does anyone else find the choice of pre-order bonuses a little strange?
Collectors edition = Quickens recovery from KO.
Standard Edition = Increase speed of skill progression.

Hopefully the KO recovery won't be needed to much but faster skill progression sounds like an awesome ability to have.

JP Only and NA players sucking the proverbial JP dick is very much alive and well. Neither is a phenomenon strictly related to FFXI.

That's probably due to a bunch of non-JP players camping on top of their parties, stealing their mobs, and generally acting like self-obsessed douchebags though.
Then your server must really really suck.

This article is from Eurogamer, so the prices are quoted in euros. It's not like they're going to stick to that particular price and make us pay based on the given value for the dollar at that time. Everyone will have a set price.
My work blocks ALL game site, only this site and BG are the only two exceptions Ive found, so I could not go check for myself thats why I asked.
