If they said "It comes out in march for everyone!" how would you know the PC version was pushed back because of the PS3? It would have been so much better for SE to stick to their constant and repeated promise of a same day universal release as it would've meant everyone looking forward to this game would have been able to play it at the same time on the same day.

Instead we get a "PC users get it super early, while PS3 users get screwed over!". Not only are they breaking the promise of the same day universal release, they're also breaking the promise of a 2010 launch for PS3 players. That just screams bad business move as it will turn away a lot of players.

FFXIV is supposed to be a more casual MMO, and PS3 would be the easiest way for these casual players to enjoy it. But all hype PS3 users had for this game just took a major hit.
I had the exact same thought. They could have quietly finished the PC version by late August, and put all their manpower on completing the PS3 version by Nov-Dec timeframe, and release them both then. Still 2010 release, everyone is happy, PC gamers would be none the wiser. But instead, it appears they wanted to beat Blizzard to the punch, and release the PC version way earlier than necessary, thereby screwing over the PS3 player base.

**WARNING- CONSPIRACY THEORY** Also, there's still a very very slim chance that Microsoft is invoved in this. What if they went to SE and said, ok fine, we agree to let Silver members subscribe to FFXIV, but you have to give us a simultaneous release with PS3. All of a sudden they are scrambling to get the 360 version ready, and have to delay the PS3 version. We will know if this theory is true if a 360 version is announced in the next few months.

But SE can take this to the bank. If they delayed my enjoyment of this game by 6 months so Microsoft could have their way, they've lost me as a customer for life.... and I know I won't be the only one. **/CONSPIRACY THEORY**

I was hoping that we would all start off on the same page. But due to SE's dick move, then we (PS3 users) will have to wait 6 months to play the game and then have to deal with the elitsism of the others(PC users).

I would much rather they delay the release of the PC version so that everyone does start off at the same time.

Considering that in Japan, the majority (90%+) of users will be on PS3, YES! (based on current XI numbers)

In fact, even most NA players who are interested in XIV probably have a PS3 but lack a powerful enough Computer to run it, at least under optimal settings.

SE more then already got their payback for that little incident when they made XIII multi-platform.

You honestly think there's more people looking forward to this on the PC then there are on the PS3? You do realize that the PS3 is a more popular gaming platform in Japan then the PC is. You do realize that more people would rather drop 300 for a PS3 to run the game with great graphics and settings and not have to worry about numerous tiny little issues then people would want to drop 4-500 on a new PC to run the game at it's lowest settings. You do realize it's far easier to push and promote a game for a gaming console which is literally as simple as pick-up-and-play then push it for a PC where half the time you're not even certain if the game you just bought will run correctly right out of the box.

The Xbox and PS2 comments show that many people prefer console gaming to PC gaming, the majority of which as far as Japan is concerned, mainly due to ease of use and not having to worry about how well a game will run for them on a console.

I'd have trouble running FFXIV on my PC at the moment myself so I was planning on getting the PS3 version. That doesn't mean I'd want to unnecessarily delay the release of the game.

Either upgrade your PC if you need to and are willing to if you want to play early or wait until the release of the PS3 version like you'd have to anyway. Why wish unnecessary delays on other players?

Except protecting their subscriber base. Honestly, most people complaining will still probably buy FF14 right away. They may even buy a computer just for it. I'm not saying it's a bad business move, I'm just saying it's a very very dick move. Dick moves are often best for business, doesn't make them any less dick moves.

For most people, ease of use > super advanced super graphics. And buying and playing a game on consoles is always so much easier then playing them on a PC.

And 3 months of that was the PC version being released much earlier than many were expecting. If they had decided to release the PC version in December, nobody would have thought they were somehow holding it back, and it would only have been a 4 month lag.

I guess they wanted to rush to get it on the shelves in time for the "holiday" purchase season.

I'll pass on the "paid gamma test" era of XIV. I've heard enough of what FFXI was like in its first couple of years that I'm in no hurry.

Who cares about being first? Being first isn't the reason I'm pissed that the PS3 version is delayed, the reason I'm pissed is because now my only choices to play this game are to either spend a buttload of money to get my computer to be decent enough to run the game on at least the minimum of settings or wait 7 freaking months to enjoy a game just about every friend I've made in FFXI will be playing. This is a kick in the balls for PS3 users who planned to jump in from the start, as many of us were glad we wouldn't have to drop massive wads of cash on new PCs just to play one new game.

I've been running the same Linkshell for close to six years now in XI. I've played that game with the same people day in and day out for the majority of that six years. I was greatly looking forward to having the ability to start a brand new adventure in a brand new game with those same friends I have played with for over half a decade, who I know well and can trust and enjoy their company. But now the only way I can do that is spend a crap load of money to upgrade a PC that currently can't even run the Benchmark, nor many other games. That is a kick in the balls no matter how you cut it.

Also, "buying every console just in case" is an absolutely retarded concept and certainly not something most people should do. I do not want a Wii or a 360, they do not have enough games to justify me caring about them nor do I have the money to spend to make purchasing them worth while. I do not need a super gaming rig PC because all I use my PC for is XI and I bought it as cheap as I could and still play it. I don't even like gaming on a PC and for as long as I've had one FFXI was the only game I really played on one. So this concept of "It's your own fault for not buying everything!" is ridiculous at best...and I can't even say what it is at worst because words like that have no place in polite conversation.

Its not like SE is doing this intentionally, PS3 can be a bitch sometimes, and I am sure they ran into some kind of problem.

It sucks for PS3 players, but at the same time, its kind of selfish of PS3 players (because many have said this) to want SE to delay the game on both systems.

People keep talking about being "behind" but thats just the problem, its an MMORPG, every time you go to sleep or stop playing, your being "left behind" .

I'm just not a fan of getting together funds for a PC at breakneck speed with the economy the way it is and how intense the fall line up for games is already. I'd much rather just get a cheap PC for PC things and consoles for games. Plus I don't want to build a PC for just one game.

Its much easier for me to obtain a PS3 than a PC gaming rig at this point.

Its looking like SE just sold me a copy of DC Universe Online, though. Some companies can still do a unified, multiplatform release of an MMO, it seems.

Unless I come up with some brilliant scheme that gets me a PC strong enough for FFXIV, I don't see FFXIV happening for me til next year. SE is taking a big gamble. Really, what if DCU gets the stronger userbase on PC and PS3 because of the unified release? I think SE is going to regret this move, the brand's loyalty isn't that strong right now.

Forced was a crappy choice of words, but you get my point. In order to enjoy the game in the way SE promised, people will at a minimum have to buy a copy of the game they didn't wish to buy.

We're not talking about "oh, Japanese players get it a few days earlier because games release on a different day or the week", or "People on the east coast get it an hour earlier", or even "It's a couple weeks later so they can iron out some bugs" or "a cargo shipment was diverted, but that's completely out of SE's control". We're talking SE saying "Global unified release!" and giving us 7 months lag. PS3 users are hardly bitching about some inconsequential timespan. And obviously MMOs are competitive where single player games aren't; if I pick up FFX in ten years, it's going to be just as enjoyable as it was ten years ago when it was released. If I pick up EQ now, pretty much everyone else is going to be playing far beyond what I am.

Even more important the competition though is adventure. PS3 users are going to be completely deprived of a lot of the fun that people who are first into an MMO get--a lot of what the people who founded this forum back when it was a site for importing the Japanese version were looking for--the adventure, the not knowing what awaits around the next turn, the not having a guide to go to for quests, the not having higher level players everywhere doing everything, the utterly fresh feeling.

I doubt that. Definitely this was the case when FFXI came out, compared to the lackluster PS2 HDD support and so on; but with the PS3's built in capabilities and the fact that it is much more expensive to get a PC now, I don't think that's going to be as much the case. In Japan especially; the PS3 isn't hugely popular like the PS2 was, but it's probably still more popular than high end PC gaming.

Actually with the latest specs released, it is cheap. I could build something a bit better than listed specs for less than a PS3 in Australia. I'm sure it's cheaper in America too, since we usually have way overpriced everything.

I'd be very annoyed if I planned to play this on the PS3 though. Six months is a long time to wait, maybe if it were just one month I'd be more understanding.

Only instead of those who were intending to play on PS3 complaining about the delayed release, the people who intended to play on PC would be too. They'd also be seeing themselves out of 6 months worth of PC sales and subscription fees for no reason.

While simultaneous releases like they intended would have been ideal sometimes development doesn't always go to plan and delays happen. If the system requirements they've released are accurate then you don't need a top of the range PC to play, although given the benchmark if this is the case then it looks like the game must have gone through some heavy optimisation.
