well it only takes common sense to realize that the full release is in 2010, and they have been talking about the beta since two months ago. They are only quiet now because they are letting FFXIII promotions calm down for a month or two in Japan, and then pull out the FFXIV bandwagon again.

The beta is in fact already happening, though that's isolated within developers and select testers.
But the closed beta invite version of the test before full public open beta will surely be early 2010.

yes it does take common sense....but to say early 2010 is silly, they said it wil lbe released retail in 2010, beta could start in June-July_ or August of 2010

The "in house" alpha beta is currently going on so yes closed beta to expand on server load and bug hunting will be coming next. So it will be a while until there is a full beta test for maximum server load and to spike interest in the game. But lets remember games DO get delayed....especially MMO's.

This is my take.... If by March we don't start hearing more grumbles or something more concrete about FFXIV testing, then we maybe there could be a delay. March to Sept would be a 6 month test which would be longer than FFXI was tested (NA open testing was June to late Sept, I believe) and they did want a longer test period. Release will probably be Oct or Nov for Christmas sales so I would believe Jan/Feb would be some sort of teaser about closed testing leading to open late March or April. So sit back, relax, enjoy your holidays because soon enough FFXIV will be eating away at your free time.

I don't see this as coming out til around Oct/Nov of next year, plus getting all wound up over a beta is going to lead to some serious disappointment if you go in.

Other MMO deveiopers might treat them like demos now, but I don't know if SE will. The FFXI beta was a true beta by all accounts I've heard and they may not take kindly to people treating it like a demo. People still got to have fun, but there was some degree of work to go with it, as I understand it.

I don't really even care about getting into the beta, everyone's going to have to start from Square One when the beta's over anyway. I'd rather not invest that kind of time only to lose all of it. I'll just play other games coming out this year instead and wait patiently for FFXIV.

It was always funny to deal with the people who got big heads over being in the FFXI beta. Funnier is when someone still plays the "I was in the beta" card now, as if that means anything.

LOL Yes, I always love the people that think they are better than others because they beta tested a game. I enjoy beta testing. I like finding bugs and reporting them so when the game comes out others don't have to worry about them. I take it seriously where the majority of people use it as "whoooo I get to play for free and before most people do I AM TEH AWESOME!"

But ya, IF the release date stays on track it will probably be next fall.......hope I'll be done with FFXIII before then... lol

I just look at March of 2010 alone and have to say, you know, "No MMOs for while."

March is f'n packed. On practically every platform, too. Its unheard of for that time of year.

And I'm probably forgetting a few. Mario Galaxy 2 is probably dropping around then, too.

So I'm ending FFXI this month, working down what I have and saving to get a PS3 + HDTV and a modest PC. Wii if I have money left by that point. Really depends when Metroid: Other M lands. I still haven't played Corruption, though, so even Metroid: Other M could stand to wait til I've done Metroid Prime Trilogy (those are worth revisiting, too).

Its nice to see some of the "slow" months getting some game lovin! Its so damn hard at Christmas for people to be able to afford their hobby with all the damn games that come out AND having to juggle the expensive holiday season. Hell I drop over $250 on f**king cookie/baking shit every season alone and thats 4+ games (depending on system) that I could be enjoying! Spring/Summer is perfect because I usually have a bit of pocket change jingling around then (especially spring after taxes!). I hope they get into the swing of spreading the love around a bit more. lol

I cringe at the thought of FFXIV coming out around Christmas too. I know how I'll get sucked in and having to juggle all my responsibilities is going to suck HARD! I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing a March 2011 release! LOL

I'd prefer mid-2011 as well, if it meant they released a well-tested game with few glitches instead of a late-2010 release with choppy servers and many glitches just to catch Christmas.

No MMO is ever going to be free of glitches at launch. No MMO ever has, either. Choppy servers come from people, you know, being excited to join the game and all.

But really, I'd be more concerned about The Old Republic's launch when it comes to glitches, as Bioware single player games are buggier than most things I've played. Well, besides Bethesda games.
