    Re: FFXIV interview.

    kk just finished replaying it.

Yep, you can cancel queued attacks but I usually only queue my first attack and the follow up (with a max of 3 per "turn")

Also, I think Versus and Agito will be more my style*, man those 2 trailers are awesome. I just re-watched them twice each.

Anyway, XIV's battle system is looking to be a mix of the free movement and macros from XI with the queue system from XIII so far. It takes some time to get used to it (since battles seem much faster without auto-attack) but other than that it should be pretty easy to use. And way better than XII's (although I'm very biased on that because I hated XII's battle system.)

*Plus I'm still iffy about the though of XIII probably been dumbed down for the brick's version's sake. But hopefully it's just that the demo is simply a demo. And certainly wouldn't prevent me from buying it anyway unless it was something drastic like the PS3 version having less native resolution than the brick's. <_<

I don't think they said anything about being able to queue multiple abilities. It only mentioned that if you selected an action and the gauge wasn't ready, it would execute as soon as possible.

Doesn't seem very practical to start queuing half the battle ahead of time when you're not 100% certain what's going to happen anyway. It'd kinda be like queuing up your next 5 moves in Chess right in the middle of a match. Sure, there's a chance your enemy will do what you think he'll do, but then there's the chance that everything will blow up in your face.

On XIII it is that way, but you can cancel queued actions...I think...

    So um...

Does anyone else think the action queue will make curing really hard? "Oh shit the Tank's almost ded and I have 4 enfeebles lined up!" Escape escape escape es-*starts casting Paralyze*. Finally get your Cure lined up, and now your Action bar is empty. Finally fills up, and now people are dying.

Clarification: I'm not actually concerned at this point. I trust them to build a system intrinsic to... itself. Wow, that sentence didn't even make sense. Anyway, I'm just saying I'm interested to see how this ends up in play.

    Re: FFXIV interview.

You will be able to freely choose your starting point. It is not dependent on race. In FFXI, there was a slight bonus if you matched up your starting point with the race of your character. For example, you’d receive a ring if you were a Hume starting in Bastok. However, for FFXIV, he doesn’t think there will be anything like that. Everyone will start off equal so people can freely choose the character they want and where to start. The interviewer brings up having differences between the races and Tanaka tries to say this will not have a large effect on the skills or classes available to you. The difference will be there just to add a little color to each race.

Having equal races makes something like PvP easier too which is the next question the interviewer had. The base of FFXIV will be PvE. If they add PvP, it will probably be the sports competition-like style we see in FFXI. However, they are busy working on other things, so PvP will probably not be in the game at the start.
These make me happy, just the thought that they've considered some sort of PvP in the game is awesome to me.

Especially when their replies are so short that they clearly aren't giving you much time or thought.

    Re: FFXIV interview.

To clarify, an MMORPG is a persistent world where activities continue to go on all over that world whether you are playing it or not. Characters and all data related to those characters is stored on a server that also maintains the data of other players and activivies still going on. Its persistent, like real life.

When I leave Crawlers Nest, the Odin version of Crawlers Nest and every other version on every other server still have people in Crawler's nest doing things.

MAG and GWs are not like this. They are PEER-TO-PEER games. The world is not persistent because there is no world, just a hub area where hosts create a room and generate a version of a particular zone. When players are done with the host's game, that version of the world is removed and resets when you play it again.

So while players might be playing in other versions of other places in a Peer-to-peer RPG, none of those areas are static or are affected by player progress - they just constantly reset. They don't have player driven economies.

And all character data is normally left in the hands of players, where they can use it offline if they so choose, but said data can be manipulated and used to exploit the online environment, which in the view of many makes the peer-to-peer RPG inferior since it is much easier to disrupt the enjoyment of other players.

Now, are we clear about the difference or are people still going to be dense about this?

You never had coffee soda?! What cave have you been in?

You must really take this MMO business seriously. Do you get offended when people say GW is an MMO? Or if someone asks if a Massive Action Game would count as an MMO?? lol.
MAG, is Massive.. It is Multiplayer.. It is Online lol.

So basically what it boils down to whether you like it or not. Is that the meaning MMO goes beyond games like WoW, EQ, FFXI, Aion, EVE, Ultima, and KOR now. In other peoples opinions of course. You may not agree with it, but it's not your place to force your opinion on others either. If Takelli wants to call GW an MMO, then he can.
