Re: 4 new Fighter Jobs confirmed. FFXIV has at least 20 jobs?
I have figured out the Class system. This know sounds like it will almost universally allow players to make almost any Job they want (at least based on what Jobs were possible in FFs that had a Job system.)
that includes Mystic Knight, Time Mage, Geomancer, etc. etc.
The possibilities are only limited by the weapons and skills/abilities included in the content.
Even if your preferred combination of skills gives you a different "in-game title" for your Job, for example,
if you are dual-wielding Katanas, throwing shurikens, and using magic that fits in with your Ninja fantasies,
you are very much the Ninja you wanted to be.
THIS IS BEYOND MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!! ^-^

If they're going to nit-pick over it, they shouldn't cling to either "jobs" or "classes," which are both terms used for systems like FFT and XI.
Though, in their defense, I'm not sure what you would call this new system.

ROFL I busted a gut at that interview where they got a bit testy about saying jobs. Sounds pretty much the same to me..jobs...classes...for pete's sake!

Anyways, there better be Ninja Job in FFXIV! Katanas should = Ninja.
and there should be Ninja looking clothes (like NIN AF)
and shurikens that are easy to make, and Ninjutsu should only require a scroll to learn and use it. MP should be used instead of ninja Tools as the fuel for ninja magic (like the ninjas in Ninja Gaiden don't need tools to use magic, just Ki.)
and include the dual wielding too! oh yea and make sure they are mainly DD based instead of tank based.

The damn thing is 7 feet long including the handle. Similar issue as with the Buster sword, just instead of being too thick it's too damn long. Now, you may actually be able to pick it up and swing it, but damned if you're going to have any kind of stability.

Re: 4 new Fighter Jobs confirmed. FFXIV has at least 20 jobs?
Wasn't that a Japanese sword that was used to take out horse and rider at the same time?
The Masamune didn't make it into the conversation because it's nowhere near as farfetched as the Buster Sword. Most RPGs place heavy emphasis on swords that are too damned big to be real, but the Buster Sword is practically in a category all its own. It's closer to an I-Beam with an edge than it is a sword =P At least the Masamune retains the form/width/thickness of a real sword. It's impractically long but not downright impossible like the Buster Sword. And the popular belief was that Sephiroth's strength was the sort of thing you'd find in a Greek epic anyways. (Supposedly) demigod-level strength + extra long sword makes some sense, normal 16-year-old punk + 50lb sword does not.Last edited by Armando; 08-20-2009, 12:22 PM.

It's not entirely clear from the shot but I believe the first character has a dagger on his left hip rather than being weaponless. The costume is as rogue-like as it is bard-like.

Re: 4 new Fighter Jobs confirmed. FFXIV has at least 20 jobs?
My point from the start was that the Buster Sword isn't unusual and unique as a Gun Blade. We have seen huge oversized swords before that no normal human could wield in games before.. If I had to choose which was cooler, it wouldn't be the buster sword. Yes they're both ridiculously far fetched, but I am not being technical and talking from a real life standpoint.

Gunblade - The Final Fantasy Wiki has more Final Fantasy information than Cid could research
Claims multiple times that the "shooting" action simply sends a shockwave through the sword for extra damage. Take that as you will. It's just an oversized sword. That's what I am getting at.
As far as I can google aluminium is about 1/3 as dense as steel, but the Buster Sword still has more than 3 real two-handed swords' worth of volume even just going by its width. With thickness taken into consideration, it's still too heavy to be handled. Probably has a goddamned awful center of gravity too with the blade being so much heavier than the grip. But I'm mainly stating the obvious here.Last edited by Armando; 08-20-2009, 07:39 AM.
