My father-in-law passed away and my wife took it hard ... and lots of other IRL issues. Plus I went back to WoW for a couple of months to experience Cataclysm (I didn't play it at release) before quitting the game. Since then, I've got myself a PS3 and had trekked through FFXIII, Disgaea 4 and Star Ocean 4, so have not done very much with the Grand Companies or any of the other "new stuff" yet. Working on that right now, though, so I can finally get myself a chocobo license.

Thanks ... it's been a very hard year. My oldest daughter had a minor operation this past Saturday as well ... my Mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer ... my own mother and my step-dad looks like they're on the verge of a divorce. A lousy year indeed.

Looking back at these screens ... suddenly I realize what a gorgeous game this still is. It will play nicely well into it's 10th year provided they don't botch the graphics in 2.0 ... meanwhile, I haven't played the game all that much in a while, but now I'm just overcome with massive nostalgia and plan to do some fishing and crafting tonight My happiness is not derived from progression as much anymore (end game content in any MMO can do that to you) but just the sheer joy of playing in such a beautifully crafted game. Fortunately, the gameplay is improving, albeit slowly, to round out what I term as "the game with a huge expectation and potential that was not fortunate to have a competant enough director to guide it". Yoshi-P, you're that "competant enough" guide that should've been installed years ago. :/

(sans some of these job system hacks, but I'm gonna give them the benefit of doubt and try it before whining about it)


Oh ... for relevancy ... I should update this post. Hrmph ...

And ... I'm going to spoiler this particular one. I really liked this story line and thought I'd share it with those of you who don't mind being spoiled (or don't even plan to play this game)
