question on equip for sub classes

If I am a whm and I sub war can I use a longbow? The reason I ask is that I want to become a ranger eventually and I want to get the ranger look going along with getting my bow skill lvl up. So can anyone help me out here?

Please for the sake of all WHMs and Tarus use your MP pool to the fullest!

Its a general rule of thumbs not to sub a melee to a mage class except for farming. And considering you would like to be a RNG someday I suggest you just level up WAR instead of WHM.

Benefits of Lvling WAR for future RNG:
1. You would already have a lvled sub.
2. Berserk
3. Added Damage
4. Greater survivability than /WHM.

Negatives to subbing WAR to RNG:
1. No dual archer knives from /NIN
2. No Blink.. from /NIN

Benefits of Subbing WHM to RNG:
1. .... [insert cricket sounds]

Negatives to subbing WHM to RNG:
1. Gimped damage
2. Gimped damage
3. Too low of MP to be of any real use.
4. Fewer dmg and/or acc boosts than /WAR or /NIN.
5. Early on WAR is much cheaper than WHM, the gil you dump into WHM you will never seen again whereas you can sell back all of your WAR gear. Before lvl 40 there is nothing a WAR will use that you would really have second thoughts about selling back. Why? At 40 you get Sniper Rings, the type of gear you will use till endgame. But WHM, spells can add up over time and cost gil you will NEED for RNG. Just check out the RNG forums on what they think about cheap RNGs.

Also, you can't equip Bows as a WHM.

Yeah, pretty much what he said. If you want to be a ranger, you may want to start subbing a WAR or just a melee. Best subs for WHM is BLM and summoner

Q: Can I equip a bow as WHM/WAR?

A: No. You can only equip items which WHM are allowed to equip, subjob does not matter. WHM can't use any bows/guns/crossbows, not even as WHM/RNG.
