  • Having a hard time

I have a level 10 elvaan whm and I'm having the hardest time leveling up...and I lost my level 10 today.

I tried to go to Valkrum but that place is soo confusing...I don't know what to do...I came to Valkrum via Windy..my nation so I am lost even more not knowing where to go.

I need some advice on how to handle this because I really don't know what to do...thanks.

I am not sure who is telling all the new players to go to Valkrum at level 10 but I wish they wouldn't. Valkrum is exceptionally hard at level 10 and there are much better places to go.

At level 10 go to the Shakrami Maze (NE Corner of Tarongi Canyon) and don't come out until level 16.

At level 19 as WHM you can go to Quifim (via Jeuno) as WHM are so depsperatly needed there you will be snapped up very quickly.

With my whm (first character) I think i waited until 12 before I went to Valkrum, and appart froma cvouple of bad parties (which is expected obviously) I never really understood why everyone hated the dunes SO much. Now i've just started levelling brd, and decided to hit Valkrum at 10, thinking it wouldn't be much different. Christ was I wrong, so far i've had a complete nightmare.

Weirdly, as far as Qufim is concerned, there was always an adundance of whm on my server when I was levelling there, heh.

I entered valkurm at 9 as whm, had a great time, but I had previous experience with lvling two other jobs through valkurm already. Valkurm is do-able at 9-10, but it depends on the other party members (tough will all the new wars with no subs running in valkurm). Being elvaan at lower lvls doesn't help much either.

          i soloed until level 16 ;\

funguars near the jugner and valkurm zones in latheine...50-72 exp each kill at 15-16, and you can kinda sorta farm the drops...in retrospect it was kind of a silly idea. but if you have trouble getting groups the option is there.

Don't give up, WHM is the hardest class to solo to level 10, especially without a sub... I do not know how I survived until level 10 before I could party T_T

ha hah! I posted something like this exactly when I first started as whm
It is very hard, but it takes timing and learning, if you can look at my "White mage in distress" post, it tells you all that stuff, cause I can't think of the spells you get/have right now. But, a good group will get you great xp in velkurm but those are hard to find at low lvls, especially with all of new players who have no clue what they are doing as far as a PT yet.

I'm with Dux on this one, who ever told the players to go to Valkrum Dunes at lv. 10 needs a CAT scan. All 3 Nations provide perfectly suitable areas to fight and level at 10, Valkrum is really not the best area. You only got 1 monster there you can fight for exp, and the number of players that keep going there is so huge that getting that 1 monster is tough.

If you want an easier time leveling definatly try Maze of Shakrami or kill stuff in the Tahrongi Canyon/Konstat Highlands/La Tien Plateu/Ordelle Caves there are tons of places far better suited for a lv. 10 and you will level faster and easier in those areas.

Maze of Shakrami if you wanted you don't have to really leave untill your lv. 18. Chaining monsters in there is so easy you can get chain #5 for 240 exp with no problem at 15+. Before 15+ killing just 1 monster gets you far more exp then the lizards in Valkrum Dunes. Up to you a hard fight were everyone has to rest and only get 80 - 120 exp a kill, or a hard fight were everyone has to rest and get 160 - 200+ exp a kill.

                  Yep

Yep, I am a Windy resident, and you don't have to get on the Boat to Selbina till like 15+

Since selbna has No AH and no resident, it's a horrible place to be for any length of time.

At 9th level there are lots of parties forming for the Tahrongi canyon to fight Dhamels. Every time I go to the Tree where the NM Dhamel spawns, there is almost Always a party there.

At 10-12 go to the Maze, you can get 200+ on Maze Makers there into level 12, and over 100+ after that with a much higher level of safety.

For the people that like to move on from the maze, check your XP next time, you aren't really getting better, and the risks are worse at like the Dunes.

Now at 15, you can go to Dunes, but first, Seek in Bubu penn. It has the same level of Mobs and is closer to home, no boat ride. It used to be a popular as Dunes, but isn't now. Even so many players still make teams and level there 15-18+ and since most who do that are the people that aren't sheep just following what others have Said, they tend to be more experienced players, so things will go better and you'll learn more.

Though it is true that you can hunt Lizards in the Dunes at like 11, it is Very risky, the Mobs that agro in that area ( Gobs ) are too high to even consider fighting, so any agro and at least one team member dies, and maybe all if its an Ambusher or Gambler.

Oh, and final reason to go to Dunes later, People have leveled more, so they tend to make less mistakes. The sooner someone shows up in Dunes, Unless its an Advanced Job or with a Sub, the more likely they will get you killed.
