  • WHM Pet Peeves?

Hello! I've been "lurking" on these boards, reading around, for awhile, and decided that it would be a good time to start posting.

As a FFXI player since the NA release, I've had a good amount of PT experiences. Most of them good, but some of them bad. And it led me to think, "I wonder if other WHM have the same pet peeves when in parties that I do?" Well, here are some of mine:

Seeking for a party, and instead of receiving a friendly tell, "Hello! Need PT?" you get "Randomplayer invites you his/her group." I cannot STAND this. Even though I'm seeking, it's rude to just invite without any notification. I like to talk to the PT leader before joining a group to see what kind of party I'm joining as well as their capabilities and whether or not they're friendly. A simple "Hi! Need PT?" is better than none, or "j00 join our PT now or else n00b!!1"

WAR who seem know how to heal better than I do. ; )

A groupmember who gets Screwdrivered for 280 damage, KO's and blames the WHM, when their max HP is 250.... "n00b joo should have cure me fined rez now!!!1!" Figure that one out.

Well, that's all I'm going to throw out now. It seems as there's a lot more players nowadays that don't let respect and politeness get in their way when playing. Sort of ruins the fun for everyone else trying to enjoy the game as well. Any other pet peeves?
    Kupo!

Don't get too upset at this one. I'm still working my war through valkurm and I sometimes feel the need to give the new whms advice. Not all of them are just being bossy, some might know a few tricks to help you out.

    On to pet peeves:
Plds that burn through there mp in a single fight throwing cures when its not an especially difficult fight that would warrent them having problems holding hate. Results in me having tons of mp after the fight, but the pld being empty and we end up with downtime.

Rdm's that put melee before refresh. Its important that the refresh love gets spread, please don't think its only for between fights. :dead:

Thf who refuses to ta+sa onto pld at start of fight, but loves to ta+sa onto drk or other dmg dealer, resulting in me having to spam big cures and sometimes pulling hate when the drk becomes our parties new tank.

Blms that magorly overnuke and get upset when I can't cure them fast enough in their new role of party's main tank.

Raise requests by lvl 1-15s next to homepoints.

Repeated requests for a raise while ignoring my response asking where the raise is needed.

PL requests by random people who get indigniant and upset when I refuse.

Being told incorrect information about how certain whm spells work by melees who have never even played a mage. Can't get over the drk who swore up and down for 20 mins that none of the cures had caps and his lvl 70 pld friend could cure 1 for 60hp, cure 2 for 190, cure III for 250, and cure IV for 500+.

Complaints about me not using divine seal when I raise because they want double the exp back. They just don't get it.

One of my biggest peeves, being partnered with another whm (healer) who either doesn't trust my healing skill or doesn't understand the idea of one person curing while the other rests. So that person is always out of mp and I'm nearly full until they finally run out and I can cast, but as soon as they have 20-40 they pop back up and cast it. Thus when I finally need to rest, they haven't ever rested and don't have enough mp to last while I rest.

Requests for a teleport only to discover they didn't have the crystal. Actually more funny than annoying. :spin:

People who start screaming at me for not casting Protectra two seconds after it just expired. 'prot plz'. Dude, I *KNOW* it's expired, and I *will* recast it - just concentrate on your own job!

People who do the same as above only with Haste. I actually find this more annoying since Haste isn't really as important as Protect and I never cast it on all melee players, only certain ones which deserve it (tanks and people participating in renkei).

Power levelling requests. Honestly I *hate* these people. They're never polite and don't even consider the fact that I might have better things to do. Conversation usually proceeds like this:
      <Iamamoron> hi
      <Feenicks> hello ...
      <Iamamoron> u busy?
      <Feenicks> what's the problem?
<Iamamoron> can you power lv me im only 1000 tnl plz help me

... and I just ignore them after that.

yeah people with "/p heal me" macros really piss me off, especially when theres someone else who needs healing more.

cure happy blms/rdms. This onyl really applies when we're having an easy time and i'm using barely any MP anyway. As I start casting cure on someone another PT member does as well, and half my cure ends up getting wasted because they weren't low enough to need to cures. If they dont need to be curing they could save their mp for other things.

Also occasionally something similar after a bomb toss (or whatever), i'm high on mp and the fights finished and everyone needs a rest or something. So i decide to divine seal and curaga, just for fun really. So I /party and tell everyone, then by the time i've done divine seal then hit my curaga macro, someone else in the party has already healed 2 or 3 people.

Lastly, I know its a bit petty, but other mages telling me not to heal them after fights, because they are goign to rest and don't need it. I know full well that theyre going to rest, but if i've got a bucketload of mp left then theres no harm in me throwing a cure your way if no one else needs it. Theres no need to tell me that I don't need to heal you, every time I do it.

Oh, and I got into an argument with some person once, who's name I forget, but they were asking me for a raise, and didnt believe me when I said I didnt have it (was lv21 at the time) and got rather abusive towards me. They thought I wanted to save my mp for myself because I was greedy or something, lol.

I agree with everything that people say here! I have been working on my whm for a while now... and my biggest problem is when the monster hits me 3 times, and they are not provoking it!

Happend a few times where I died, and they blame me, because the pt dies! The last time it happend, I told them that for me to survive I need to have HP and not be hit. If I am hit, my cast get inturupted and I can't can't cast Heal on myslef to survive. Then I left the pt!

I am getting angry just writing this! :D

Aside from many many things already mentioned here:

When someone with a whm sub casts protectra after mine has expired.... It bothers me to no end when they do things I have control over. Or ones that tell me to regen the tank right before the fight as if I didn't know.

Characters who refuse to gather for buffs and curagas etc when I ask them nicely. I mean, it is a beneficial thing to them and saves me mp, why would they not gather?

And of course backup tanks who voke at the exact same time as a main tank when it runs for me, and then when it breaks towards me again and neither can voke.....

                /em /s macros.

Only thing that could be worse would be /sh

People that can't spell "Phoenix", "Divine", or the 15 billion people that call themselves one of the following:

                Sephirath/Siphiroth/Sepheroth/Sepiroth
Legulus, Regoras, Legollas, Lagolas, Legoles etc etc etc

(current "attack of the misspelt clones" count on valefor = 12 sephiroths and at least 20 Legolases)

                ffxiishuyin,ffxiirikku (what the heck?)
                Other self-aggrandizing names.

People that sit in Jeuno all day and spam tabtype "HELP ME OUT"(trans: please save me!) instead of "Looking for Members". This game isn't about you you you. Don't expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter.

"HELP ME OUT" "RAMUH" "QUEST" is particularly annoying when it comes from a level 30 black mage with a 6 whm subjob. What's he going to do? Stone it to death?

Oh - and on that note: BLM/SMNs. (what the Japanese call "useless black mages").
I believe most sigs are like the people they represent - useless, loud and obnoxious.

                  hehe
I love those blms who just refuse to heal. (it really depends, but usually the blm can go without healing... meh). the blm/smn kinda only works if the blm think none of his/her spells will get resisted... [and this was level 62 when I (whm/blm) had a party like this... let's just say it wasn't really good exp]

Of course there was that time in the dunes where the blm/rdm said he refused to heal [ so to see how far he'll go with that statement, I - i think at the time i was a rdm/whm - refused to heal the over-nuking blm...] but hey I made the blm heal himself, that's a plus.

Then the blm in yhoator jungle (29 ish), how did I know he refused to heal... blm/drk (so I checked the stat calc to see if drk really adds anything, well you get more int than a /whm(not by much), but you get less of everything than as a blm/rdm. People these days....

Yea, in the true light of things, the blm shouldn't heal, and I really wouldn't have any otherway; however like there was never a time a whm as the [only] healer ever worked out well... that or maybe I'm just a sucky whm who complains to much...
** wee just made it to level 65-whm, how painful **
[but hey at least i'm not one of those melee'ing whm]

I will throw some of my frustrations out there also.

First NO I will not power level you! This is the one and only thing I hate most in the game! I have done it for LS members, but not some random person begging me.

Second NO I will not teleport to raise you, even tho I have the teleport spells it's not my job to be your personal raiser. I get this a lot from people in the Maze. Went there a couple times, and raised many people while I was walking throuhg. Raised one party many times. I warp out, only to get a /t to teleport back to raise them! It would only take a second! And yes it would but really its not my job, and at lvl 1-20ish I don't believe raises are needed. Spawn to home point it will only take you like 5 mins to walk back. Deal with it.

Also I don't like being yelled at. Like if I benedict and die, then they yell no! Well its either me or the whole party? Which would you rather have? If the party all dies, I die anyway. Or using big cures in battle or using a lot. Well sometimes you have to or else they will die. Thats just the way it goes. *shrug* I don't get this much anymore. Just earlier in the game.

And last it's just a game people don't take stuff seriously or get mad. I hate when people die and get all bent out of shape! I know it really sucks, but this is supposed to be fun! If you need to go take a break, take a walk, get some fresh air, but don't go off on people or make them feel bad. hehe
61 whm, 66 blm, 37 smn, 24 rng, 14 rdm, and the rest are all still pretty low. :p

Any requests in ALL CAPS. I am not deaf, you don't have to shout.

Any raise requests more then 2 maps away.

Someone who yells for help, but does not 'call for help', and keep running outside my cure range.

Parties that ask multiple WHM for raise at the same time. I hate running for 5 minutes to the corpse, only to see 3 other WHM's gotten called there to raise the same person.

Players with a total lack of manner. No 'please', 'thank you', 'sorry', or even the abbreviated form s. These people just demand for my service and act as if I owe it to them.

God, I couldn't have put it better myself. When I was doing my AF1 in Valkurm I foolishly forgot to turn on /anon and I got a few raise requests all at the same time. One just said "(Raise) (H-7)" - no please, no hellos, nothing. Another said "plz rez my friend" ... honestly what do people think they're going to achieve by being so blunt? I think sometimes people forget that in an online game you're talking to real people who take notice of things like this.

But, then there was this one guy who was an absolute joy to deal with. He sent me a tell saying "Hello, I'm very sorry to bother you, but can you possibly Raise a friend of mine?". I said yes, went over and Raised him and he said something like "Thanks very much for taking the time out to do this, I realize that you're probably busy".

Looking back it probably would have been better and quicker and easier for him to just get his friend to return to his HP and come back since the XP loss would have been negligible. But with politeness like that I was glad to help. People like that make our job worthwhile, I swear it.

I personally hate power level requests from people I don't know.

Ranking up there is the people that don't accept "No" as an answer. Sometimes it's a teleport (if I'm in a group already, I'm not disbanding to teleport you around). Sometimes a raise (mostly at level 25 WHM when I was leveling but not all WHM had raise).

I really hate it when people say that WHM is a very cheap class to play. Especially when they're a generic melee class. (Armor is something you can buy and sell back. Spells you always have after you use, they can't be sold back.)
(Of course, if somebody like a ranger or blink tanking ninja says that WHM is cheap compared to them...I tend to agree.)
                            Generic Info!

Or ones that tell me to regen the tank right before the fight as if I didn't know.
Wow, you get pull messages? You mean people out there actually know when the fight is about to begin? Normally, I just get a few hits from the pull as a nice surprise while I try to heal back mp.

I also really despise parties who invite me into a group as a second WHM so they can chain IT monsters. Then they run me completely out of mp, forcing the "backup" healer to stand up and fill in for the last 5 mins. Repeat this feat over and over, always managing to just barely win the fight, and then loudly proclaiming to the group how "GREAT" the exp is. If it was that great of exp, you wouldn't need an extra WHM, and the WHM you had would have enough mp left over to cure your poison after the fight. (Dumb@$$es in Crawler's Nest, grrr).

I dunno if this is strictly something that happens to our job or not, but does anyone else ever get random tells from people wanting you to do missions for them? (I can understand it if I'm actually grouped on Floor 10 of Delkfutt's farming gigas and someone standing behind me asks me to help them get a key off Porphyrion. I mean, I'm right there and already have a key, it's no real effort). What annoys me is when I'm in Jeuno, and someone I've never met before in Windurst asks me to do mission 3-2 for them, as a lvl 25 without any kind of sneak or invis items. I'd do it for friends or linkies, but I'm not babysitting a complete stranger that long.

One no one mentioned before is the people who expect you to be psychic about sneak/invis/deo or status down effects like poison or such. I'm not watching the action in battle, I'm watching your hp to make sure I cast the right level cure on the right player. If you're poisoned or asleep, you've gotta say something. I also don't get any clue your sneak is wearing off until it actually falls.

I think someone mentioned the guys who expect you to remove poison as soon as it lands. How about the poisoned tanks who get a regen cast on them after battle and still complain? It's crawler poison, not spider poison... rub some dirt on it and get back in the game. You aren't going to be healing mp anyway, chances are it'll wear off long before that regen does.

The math geniuses are my worst pet peeve though, the guys who think the biggest exp message possible is the best, most efficient levelling strategy. In the time it took us to kill one IT pugil in Qufim, we could drop 6 easier T-VT clippers in the same area. I was in one party where the healers completely rebelled, disbanded, and joined smarter groups in the same area.
