Whm replaced by Rdm at high level?

I read about Rdm's being used to sub for Whm in high end PTs all the time, I was curious if they end up being preffered to them though. Looking at these stats w/o gear:

*60Rdm/30Blm
Mana: 636
Hp: 728

*60Whm/30Blm
Mana: 697
Hp: 668


Now the Whm has the advantage of +90mp, but both have Cure IV and the Rdm has convert which ends up being more total (or potential) mp.

What am I missing?

(2) WHM get Regen II and Regen III

(3) WHM get Raise II and Raise III

(4) WHM get higher level Protectra/Shellra spells

(5) WHM can Teleport (ok, RDM/WHM can Teleport to Dem, Holla and Mea... at level 72).

(6) WHM have Benediction

(7) WHM have Flash


Overall, yes, RDM are a bit more important than WHM (gee, thanks, S-E! ) at higher levels, but that doesn't mean WHM are useless.

short answer:
NO

RDM can't be full time enfeebler + Full time Refresher + Full time curer. Its not possible even with RDM/WHM, even with fast casting also the duration inbetween casts is to much unless the RDM is like super elite.

They work best with each other.. not one alone. If your missing the RDM or WHM the other job will have lots of downtime reguardless.

Most pt's would rather have whm cast raiseII instead of the redmage cast raise when a pt member dies.

8) Whm get Stona.

Cure V is very important - I've never pulled a monster off the tank even when I used it + divine seal to cure 1200+ hp on a monk. Red mage would have a bit more trouble with cure 4 (mad hate). And yes, you don't want to use Raise past level 61. (1500 exp++ lost compared to 500 exp lost with Raise 2)

Fast cast makes hate fast as well WHM is better at hate management. If RDM got Cure V, then yes, RDM would be able to replace WHM in high levels (as long as you don't die). But S-E decided to limit Cure 5 to WHM only - don't ask me why.

Protectra is nice... two red mages can chain cast Protect, but high level Protect is very very expensive on the MP.

Also - until errant equipment, RDM finds it hard to get -hate.

9) Viruna

A WHM sub will eventually get Viruna, which will allow them to do handle that at high levels, so I wouldn't include that. There's also a couple of particularly rabid RDM>>>>>>>WHM people over at FFVault that are more than happy to point out that WHM sub will allow Erase, which provides a form of Stona.

So Stona isn't quite as big of an advantage (although its still useful if you've been hit by something like Bad Breath and want to focus on the more critical negative effects first).

The best option is still to get one of each if you can.

If enough WHM weren't getting parties because RDM is too powerful, I guess we'd stop offering ports to Yhoator, Altepa and Vhazl.

No WHM, taking trip to Castle Vhazl:
Jeuno Airship->SanDoria->EastRonfaure->RanguemontPass->Baucadine->Xarcabard->CastleVhazl

I snagged my Vhazl teleport crystal last night, thats not a quick jog out there.


Hmm with WHM the trip sure is quicker (more xp time, better raise and buffs)

Edit: Too many NA RDM think they are gods gift to parties and solo too much - not surprised they think they can enfeeble+heal without a WHM around :p

ok.. till Lv68 RDM don't have Viruna. After that don't include it.
