  • Protect vs Protectra

    Hi all,
I had a lvl 13 RDM before I scrapped and am now levelling up a WHM. Just wondering if there's a difference in the effectiveness between these two spells? I mean, if they're the same, why would I spend money on Protect when I can get Protectra for the same level and MP, and cast it on my whole party in one shot? Thanks!

You can cast Protect on others, not just only for your party but i agree with you. Maybe there will be times where you need to cast Protect II on others but as for now I am just sticking with Protectra spells. I'd rather spend the money on other spells than to get Protect II when I already the the group buff version of it.

Both spells do the same thing once cast on a target.

      There are differences, however.

You can cast Protect on people outside your party (for instance, in an alliance).

The casting time on Protect is lower than Protectra (rarely an issue, but can be if you're in a hurry to heal your tank but Protect drops).
