  • Money making ideas for WHM?

My whm is on hold for the moment at lvl 30, while i mess with the other mage jobs, deciding which REALLY is me...but this is the only problem i have with the whm job.

My ability to make money, compared to any other job ive seen thus far, is sad. Generally speaking the easiest way i see to make extra cash is to go beat on monsters you can kill solo (for players that are newer to the game and arent master crafters...). Whm can do this...albeit at a much slower rate than any other job ive seen.

What are the things you all do to keep the cash flowing?

What scares me most, is im better equipped than most whm i see that are my lvl, and new to the game, and really all i have is the very essential spells, and under lvl 25 equipment as a lvl 30 whm....I dont want lack of gil to scre me off of a job that i completely enjoy otherwise!

    thanks!

    You could try gardening.

It worked a while back and I had some seeds that would grow fire crystals and I'd sell for 3k. Don't know if it's really worth it now.

It sounds like you may be putting too much focus on levelling. While levelling is important, you really owe it to yourself to stop and upgrade weapons/spells/armor to make the task of levelling as painless as possible.

While it is true that white mages do not easily earn money early on as other jobs, that's not to say that they can't.

The best ways of making money in the game are:

Quests - there is one quest in particular in selbina which you can do at around WHM40/BLM17 with knowledge of the spells Teleport-Holla and Warp which can produce impressive amounts of money, but even without that, there are many repeatable quests in the game as well as a significant number of one-time quests that pay out impressive sums of money (1000 gil is not uncommon, and there are quite a few quests that pay out 3000 or even more).

Crafting - this is highly server-dependent as to what particular items are in demand and therefore expensive, but its a good rule of them to say that having a crafting skill above 20 or so will generally make you able to earn some decent money. This method is a long-term investment however, as all crafts require signifcant amounts of startup money to fund skillbuilding.

Gilfarming - certain enemies drop very lucrative items - players of sufficient levels can find an area that they like with specific enemies that are easy to kill and hunt those creatures over and over. Palborough Mines, Tahrongi Canyon, and Davoi are common hunting grounds, but there are others.

Thanks for the res in Qufim the other day. =)

I'm having a bit of problem with funds as well (notice my asking where a lot of whm spells are sold in other threads on this board, because I just don't have the cash to buy them).

I recently did the Drain spell quest though, and instead of memorizing it I've decided to sell it. I doubt I'll really have much need of it as a whm/blm or even when I'm leveling my sub since I'll have heals, and if I do decide to buy it later down the road I'm hoping it will be cheaper then anyway. In the meanwhile the almost 20k it should bring in will help out a lot.

Planning on doing the Aspir quest for linkshell members soon, and I plan on being able to do it myself at the same time and will sell that as well. Will be some time before my whm/blm can use the spell, and again I should be able to buy it later for as much or less than I sell it for now. Think of it as a buy now pay later deal.

You could try going to Giddeus with 1 stack of wind crystals, Yagudos drop gils, and also the irritating bead necklace, which is not stackable, but wind crystal + necklace = 3 glass thread, 1 stack of them sells for 1k, and around an hr of farming shld have gotten u 3/4 stacks of threads and another 3/4k of gil depending on your speed, some of them drop some newbie equipment which can be sold to NPCs at around 50 gil per piece, save the AH spaces for your glass stacks. I have to do this for a few hours everytime I level up. WHMs have the highest cost per level, after RDM.

          Sandoria is gay.

To offer a very quick reply....

I seem to make most of my money selling scrolls and stacks of crystals.

People will for some strange reason pay an obscene amout of money for scrolls. I attribute this to lack of knowledge and laziness, but, if you go buy Cure 3 in Selbina and go back to an Auction House and sell seven of them there, you have just made roughly on average 15k in gil. I don't know what the time constraints compare to someone else's method of gil farming, but this is the one I seem to enjoy the most.

Another thing I did for a little while in the beginning was: start a new character and go to windurst... do the onion brigade quest for a justice badge, then do the 2nd onion quest for a blazing spikes scroll. You can make roughly 9k off of that and in a matter of minutes. Those two items seem to sell quickly, don't ask me why.

I don't know how ethical it is to make money off the AH, but I just attribute the idea to a "courier" service. You take out your time to get the item collected and someone pays you for that time. ^_^

Of course, getting items to complete the quests costs money and time as well... and well time is money, right?

            Goodbye everyone.

I sometimes have short playing sessions, where I know in advance that it wouldn't be worth it to join a group. So I go and kill easy prey mobs for a bit of xp. And with Signet on me, I make good amounts of gil from the crystals.

But the most money I made by creating 2 mules in the other two starting cities. The delivery box system makes it very easy to buy cheap in one city and sell for more in another. Costs you $1 per mule per month, but I think it is worth it. At the same time you always buy YOUR equipment at the cheapest price of the three cities.

just offer teleport services in jeuno when you actually get teleport. It's usually around 300-400 gil per teleport in the kon/valk/tahr areas. In like 10 minutes, you'll have yourself at least a thousand.

That looks like FFVII: Advent Children to me, but I don't know if that's what it is.

                      It is from Advent Children.

Anyway, I am trying my hand at gardening for now. I've gotten 4 light crystals from my herb seed + Earthen Flower Pot when I give it a Dark Crystal. Repeat this three times and you can get 6k from the Light Crystals. Imagine having 5 pots that grow this...

I know you'll not always get these harvests, but the other items you get from this combination are worth money too. Just don't forget to check up on the plant
