Ranger Sub Job?

I was wondering if a Ranger would be a good sub job for a white mage. By doing this, would you be able to equips bow-and arrows? That way the White Mage could still attack from the back if no healing is nessecary.

no. only your main job determines what equipment you can use. /rng doesn't let you use bow.

the only decent thing for a whm to sub is blm or maybe even smn for the MP (whm50/smn*25* for auto-refresh). subbing anything else might just be a bit 'silly', if you will, becasue all youre doing is casting cure, protect, shell and curing status effects.
you'll find you want as much MP as you can because most battles end when you run out of MP on average, having less MP can actually just be a curse for your PT >_<.
either way subbing ranger wouldnt do anything, you can only equip things your main class can wear.

I just don't want to be another Wht/Blk. There seems to be to many of them.:confused:

whm/blm is common because it is so useful just try it out and you'll know why most people use it

Yah I have givenup on the quest for a good sub job for a white mage other than a black mage yah so I finnaly gave in and I'm gonna try white mage/black mage and see what happens

Its true that most usefull combination for a WHM is either BLM or SMN and that they are pretty common, but you shouldnt let that discourage you from your choice. If you're trying to be "uniqe" you should remember that FFXI is more than just what your job is. People wont always want to play with you just because your char is the best, it also depends on if yur an idiot or not :p Try experimenting with different jobs also to find out whats best for you.

Yes you would get agility upgrades, and it would be useful for treasure(treasure hunter) but like the others said, its best to stick to whm/blm or whm/smn...
there really aren't any other sub jobs to use with, whm.....
if youre trying to get the feel of a pld you could do whm/war or war/whm but thats mostly a solo combo....

There's numerous discussions of what subjobs are workable at different levels on this forum.

Subjobs that work "best" for WHM:

From 1-29: Doesn't matter, you can sub anything you please, hardly anyone will care (though truly bizarre choices like WHM/DRG might get you some raised eyebrows)

30-39: /RDM, /BRD, /BLM are the most decent choices. /SMN is semi-common, but in reality is a terrible subjob at this level.

40-49: /BLM is hands down the best choice here. /RDM still ok, but weaker in comparison to /BLM. /BRD also ok too, but again, not as strong in comparison. /SMN still just as common, and still just as sucky as in the previous level range.

50-63: /BRD, /BLM, /SMN are all good for various reasons. /RDM not a strong contender in this level range.

64+: /BRD, /BLM, /SMN, /RDM all valid choices.
