  • Gimped evasion >< [Help me out!]

Ever since garlaige when the mobs would get stuck on those holes in the floor my evasion has been horrible, its about 120 when the cap is like 164 or something. I've been pulling recently w/o casting utsusemi which seems to help but that pisses parties off, which I can understand. Any advice on how to get it to the cap? I was thinking maybe /shouting in jeuno to get some high level healer or something, and going /war voking it, and standing there while it raises and they cure my pathetic ass, followed by me voking it back. Any advice?

Sub warrior. They can't get mad at you for not using shadows if you can't cast the spell.

Alternately, find a whitemage to powerlevel you in evasion. Find some even match crabs or monk-type mobs somewhere and get wailed on. Kill it, get healed up, start again.

What I'M doing is volounteering for skillup parties and tanking. Up to 222 ^^, 7 more to the cap.

Ya know what's fun for skilling up evasion? Aura Pots!

...then they do a -ga so you either HP or beg someone to come up and raise you :spin:

        Aura Pots at 52...
        {death} {You can have this.}

Seriously, EM crabs are your best friend. Find some EM crabs, find a whm buddy...well, hell, rdm or blm or brd works great too. Fight EM crabs.

Evasion goes up, even with shadows on. It takes some patience, especially if you have that many levels to go up.

Evasion only goes up with shadows on when you evade the attack normally. Without shadows on, evasion can go up whether you evade or get hit. If you've got whm support, it is silly to throw money away on shihei only to slow down your skillgains.

Well, silly depending on how exactly you're going about it.

Stoneskin is MND and enhancing skill ... thfs, um, have very little of either. And if you don't want blink...well, Steelshells hit for nearly 200 (150 on 73 thf)...that's only 7 hits until you're dead with just a little over 1000 hp. (Stoneskin eats one, two if you're special and manage a recast...then 6 hits to kill you dead.. more if you get a cure III off, but unless your evasion is already pretty high...fat chance.)

Then again, I raised evasion in a duo. Blm was raising staff while I was doing sword/club/xbow/evasion. I capped all but club (and only because I did sword first and by then we'd moved up to mobs too high for club). A thf/whm and a blm zoning every 30 seconds isn't all that efficient >< It's a decent enough idea for a solo thf, however.

That's not to say you *have* to use shihei, but I do know that there are those who mistakenly believe that it just can't go up at all if shadows are up. Yeah, it costs (there's no denying that), but it's less painful in practice. Perhaps some think it's a waste of gil, but for me, some conveniences are worth the price. (E.g. not raising rng to 75 just to cap xbow, or not zoning every 45 seconds to raise evasion.)

I got about 11 levels of evasion off soloing Steelshells while capping my Xbow. Even with Ni I was still occasionally getting hit and a lot of the skill came from evading entirely, not getting hit. Even while blink tanking I got those 11 points in under 2 hours, and I'm only about 3 points from the evasion cap now. I'd say blinking doesn't gimp evasion skillups too terribly bad.

As for in the 50s, I can't really say for sure what would be the best method other than beating on crabs like someone suggested. You can probably find a mage friend of yours that needs to skill some combat skill and just go crabslaying.

but anything Even match or greater than your skill level (i.e., 100 evasion can be raised by mobs that are even match or harder to a level 33 character) will raise your skill.

No need to fight steelshells unless everything else has stopped giving skill already. Go whoop on some yagyudo monks. They hit like a machine gun (lots of chances to skill up) and still hit pretty lightly.

The OP has 122 evasion and is in the low-50's, I believe. There's absolutely no need to fight steelshells, and if she were to duo with a whm, after 1 or 2 cures the whm would have all the hate and she couldn't skill anyhow.

I was using Steelshells as an example of when a whm sub wouldn't work. However, I noticed you said "whm support" and not "whm subjob" so nvm anyway.

A warning to OP about yag flagellants -- Hide the second you hear a link, because at 52, whm sub has no stoneskin, erase, etc to deal with an unexpected Bio III or a Thundaga II or Waterga III you just didn't run away from in time after Hide. (I have had those long ass spells go off on me anyway, even if the yag was no longer agged.) But yeah, I second flagellants and swore by them til skill level 207.

Just keep levelling. You won't have much problem capping evasion once you start trying to pull super-fast enemies like Torama and Raptors in the late 50s/early 60s, even with Utsusemi (plus the higher amount of XP to next level gives you a lot more time to do so)
