I don't know that Midgardsormr is the "best" server, but there is a solid core of several hundred NA beta testers on Midgardsormr (and those are just the ones I am aware of and know at least by name). As with all the servers, there are still lots of clueless people wandering around at the lower levels, so I don't know how much better your experience will be even if you jump servers, though I *can* say that it is possible to form a party of decent players in under an hour in all of the heavily crowded zones if you're patient and know who to invite.

The other thing to bear in mind is that as you gain in levels, the quality of players increases dramatically. People who are incompetent (I grouped with a red mage 2 days ago who insisted on casting Bind over and over again in a group, even after I explained why that is a bad idea, for instance *sighs*), tend to level slowly, and if their incompetence is acute, they stop levelling altogether. By the time you get to level 31 (very important level, since advanced jobs become available at 30), you should start seeing much smarter and experienced players, regardless of what server you are on.

I tried going slow, but I got aggroed by a ghost tonight, god I'm depressed, I'll never get passed 13. I'm thinking to something easier, because THF isn't fun at all.

Easy Prey is the way to go

Yesterday was my first time playing FFXI (just got it) and I started out with a Theif (Elvann), and I have had absolutly no problem lvling at all I am lvl 11 now with 6 hours played on my guy. I had joined one PT and I left because they would not leave West Ronfaure which i can solo pretty much everything there.

The best advice i think we all can give you Nameless is dont try anything higher than Easy Prey. It may seem like crap exp killing one but after you kill alot of them very fast it adds up alot quicker than, Massive downtime on a Decent Challenge.

Hope you have better luck with Theif man cause from what i read after 33 we are the Damage LOORDS.

THF is the most difficult of all of the basic 6 jobs to raise up through level 30. I can tell you that at higher levels, good THF are simply phenomenal - they add a lot of dynamic strategy to a party, so if you stick with it, you really can become a great contributor in a party.

Incidentally, Nameless, no matter what job you are, Ghosts are not fun to fight until you're significantly higher level than they are. It sounds more like you are taking too many chances. Keep your eyes open, stay away from dangerous enemies, and know when you've dug yourself in too deep - that's the key to levelling up.
