Blm/Thf is a horrible combination. If you plan on using a magic job as your main job, you should also sub it with a magic job.

As for your thief job, there are some good combinations you can make. Thf/Monk (probly the best), Thf/War, and Thf/Rdm are some to name a few. The advance jobs don't make good subs, so don't expect a Thf/Drg or a Thf/Pld... although, a Thf/Sam could be good for building up TP.

Actually THF/NIN is good cuz of dual wield and because of the increaed DEX(or was it AGL?)

          Why is thf/rdm good?

I would expect thf/blm to be much better, or thf/whm.. But in most situations all three of these aren't very good at all.

thf/war and thf/ninja are, in my opinion, best, and thf/monk ain't bad either.

You won't want to use a mage sub for a thief after level 15 or so. It just isn't worth it - you'll have almost no MP and your spells will all be very weak.

The "best" subs for THF at higher levels are:

THF/NIN (high dex, dual wield, ninjitsu)
              THF/DRK (very high attack)
THF/MNK (Boost to increase attack, Focus to increase accuracy)
              THF/SAM (very fast TP accumulation)

Weak subs for THF at higher levels include:

              /WAR, /PLD, /DRG, /SMN, /WHM, /RDM, /BLM, /BRD, /BST

I have never seen THF/RNG, and am not sure whether it would be useful or not (could be, as /RNG gives you access to some interesting ranged WS)

Im going THF/BLM myself, 12/15 right now just need to do my subjob quest ^^.

Just do what you want dude, so far alot of the stuff that has been posted on these forums have either been false or majorly exagerated. Heck I definately agreed to go THF/BLM till 30 when I saw a tarutaru 64/32 THF/BLM rapeing mobs like crazy.

Aw hell it was prolly soloing or something, a THF/BLM at that high of a level isnt going to really have any place in the party. Every spell is halved and not going to be effective. You are going to burden the party sometime by doing obscure job combos.

Maybe when you're just messing around sure, but I can tell you that the THF/BLM player probably doesn't use /BLM while they are in an XP group. Any level 60+ player can mow through any of the low level areas with no problem with any sub they choose - but they're also not gaining any XP. My guess is that the THF/BLM was gilfarming or doing something else where they need to be able to Warp back to their home point after they were done.

Still, you're welcome to play what you like. Just try not to be too surprised when you don't get many party invites at THF30/BLM15.

Early on THF/MNK is good because you get the faster grapple and boost which can add a lot because of faster and stronger h2h. Plus if you have dex increasing armor, (Strike Baghs, Balance Rings, and Spike Necklace at 21) stack boost, and start the battle with sa-combo...... I think I can leave the rest up to you. After level 30 though THF/MNK may not be your best choice. First off, if you choose WAR you get berserk at level 30. Not to mention come 33 you'll be using dagger for Viper Bite so the quicker grapple is now useless, and the berserk is much better than boost. Basically, THF/WAR is not a weak sub depending on when you use it. Pre-level 30 it's better to have Monk, post-level 30 Monk isn't good considering your other choices. Overall though, the poster above pretty much hit it with his good/weak subs for THF, except for including Warrior as a weak one.

Two that I've been wondering about are THF/SAM and THF/DRK though. I haven't heard anything about either combo but at high levels I wonder in they'll be beneficial. They sound like they would be great subs, Samurai for its fast tp accumalation skills and ability to perform skillchains by themselves, although I don't how this works or if it'll work being a sub (which leads me to wonder about higher leveled SAM/THF.... high tp using sa-renkais ) DRK sounds like it may be a good sub because of its strength increases, but skillwise would it be worth it? (how you get nice support skills from MNK early on, or WAR later on, would you get good ones from DRK or SAM?)
Do you really believe in anything besides the weight of your guns?

The only reason someone would sub blm like that is so they could dezone when they were done doing w/e they were doing... odds are they were hunting something.

Thf/Blm is a horrible idea, but hell do whatever makes ya happy. Just dont expect me to invite ya into my pts XD
I plan to live forever.. so far so good.

One of the reasons I left /WAR on the "not recommended" list was because if you're just interested in additional damage from your sub, /DRK is significantly better.

                          Warrior subs get:

                          Provoke(5): Useless for THF
Defense Up(10): Sort of useful, but good THF almost never get aggro
                          Berserk(15): Increases attack, lowers defense.
Resist Virus(15): Um. Yeah. Maybe if you're fighting dogs.
                          Defender(25): Useless for THF
Double Attack(25): Good, but the percentage is low
                          Attack Bonus(30): Great for THF.
Warcry(35): Increases party attack. Draws lots of hate, however, which can ruin your Sneak/Trick Attack(yokodama).

                          Dark Knight subs get:

Arcane Circle(5): Useful against Weapon-type enemies. Otherwise worthless for THF.
                          Attack Bonus(10): Great for THF.
Last Resort(15): This is like Berserk, only better.
Weapon Bash(20): Can't be used by THF
                          Resist Paralyze(20): Occasionally useful
Arcana Killer(25): Increased damage to Arcana(Weapon-type enemies)
                          Attack Bonus(30): Great for THF
Soul Eater(30): Consume HP to increase damage

So for a /WAR you get at THF70/WAR35:

                          Defense Up
                          Berserk
                          Double Attack
                          Attack Bonus
                          Warcry

                          For a /DRK you get at THF70/DRK35:

                          Attack Bonus x 2
                          Last Resort
                          Soul Eater

For the offensive-minded thief, I think /DRK is a superior sub. Although you do get the occasional double attack, thieves also get Triple Attack as a trait at higher levels, so its not as one-sided as it sounds. Also, the extra Attack bonus means you hit more often and hit harder as a /DRK, and both Last Resort and Soul Eater do much better things for your attack rating than Berserk do (though their drawbacks are more pronounced as well). Again, though, since thieves rarely get hit, the decreased defense and HP loss from Last Resort and Soul Eater are less of a concern than you might think.

                            THF/WAR

what are you talking about? Thief/Warrior is the best subjob for thief besides /ninja, and some even still consider /warrior is the best. If you do a /sea all 50-69, you will see the most experienced Japanese players using thf/war very very often in levelling parties. Rank 9 players go thf/war or thf/nin. I have never seen a thf/dark. Thf/blm, thf/whm, and thf/mnk seem to come next as second rank subjobs, and I think /rng falls into that category too, although it is not as popular.
Thf/monk isnt usually worthwhile after level 33 if you plan on using daggers, thief's best weapon.

Maybe thief/dark is actually not that bad. On paper, it looks good. But until you have actually played that combo for a few levells, you can't really say it outdoes /warrior. Warrior is the most popular subjob for thief, and dark is almost non-existant.

I had a level 32 thief / 22 mnk, 18 warrior in the Japanese version, and my new character is becoming a Mithra thf/nin.

sorry for the double post, but this is unrelated. Anyone know anything about thf/dragoon? I also wonder if Jump is compatible with sneak attack.

and on my previous post i forgot to mention /sam is good past level 60.
