THF races

[Nameless]

I was wondering how different races do as THF. I want to be a guy (since I am one in real life), and I was wondering how Hume THF does and how Taru THF does (since they have higher AGI according to Shadow-Dragons, but they still have the same amount of DEX)?

Personally...

I agree that I wouldn't want to be a Mithra (even though they are the best) I would definatly take the Hume for the STR and HP, (the one thing Mithra THF bitch about is STR, Tarus are only worse. However, I'd take a Taru over a Galka or Elvaan.

Seriously, Elvaan Thiefs are beyond shit, they are just unbarable later on and thats assuming you get "a good one". An Elvaan Thief a few weeks back was hitting an average 300-400 less on Dancing Edge than the Mithra Thief's I had partied with the previous few days. Utter, utter shit - do not consider it.

mithra most invited over all other as thf. best acc and dex to smack. taru 2nd best behind mithra. number 1 if you wanna be a rich thf hahahahahah. taru is best stealer. hume and galka would tie in my opinion. pt with elv at high lvl wanna make u cry. you think they are missing yoko but they are not >< as it goes "missin like a elvaan" (shinjii).

I doubt any good thieve's will bitch about strength or hp, they're perfect the way they are, all we need is dex and agi.

You want to be the best in your high stat's, not kinda good or good in all the stat's used for that class.

I'm curious about some of the things being said here about thieves. I haven't played the job before, and I haven't paid much attention to any of the thieves I've had in my group performance-wise(I just try to heal them and keep them alive. I primarily play a white mage).

First off, why are Mithra the "best" thieves? AGI helps them dodge a bit more, and DEX helps them hit a bit more often, but what other advantages do they get from having high AGI and DEX? I've heard that the advantages provided by high AGI and DEX are more than a bit lackluster for standard fighting classes(i.e. Warrior), so I'm assuming that these stats do something special for Thieves? Does DEX raise critical hit rate, and does AGI affect steal success %? Does DEX affect the damage of Thief weapon skills or job abilities?

Secondly, why isn't Galka considered to be the second best race for thief? I can see how they might be considered "on par" with Humes, but consider these figures, taken from

Galka vs Hume: Galka has 4 more points of STR in the end, Hume has 4 more points of AGI. Galka has 12 more VIT(?!?!) and 252 more hitpoints. They have the same DEX. In terms of raw ability to dish out damage, the Galka should, in theory, do better than the Hume. That is, unless AGI somehow affects a Thief's ability to dish out damage. Due to lower AGI, the Galka wont' evade QUITE as well, though it'd be close, and probably be made up for by the increased HP and VIT. As has been mentioned before on this forum, most parties aren't going to let a Thief take many hits anyway, so that isn't quite so important. Higher HP would be nice for helping the Thief survive area-attacks, magic, and other nastyness. Not sure if the higher Hume INT would better protect the Hume Thief from magic. Lower AGI on the Galka probably makes him slightly worse at stealing(I would assume . . . AGI affects theft success rate right?)

I'd say they're on par, though I would rather be the Galka.

Galka vs TaruTaru: Galka has 12 more points of STR, same DEX, 16 more points of VIT, 8 fewer points of AGI, 16 fewer points of INT, 4 more MND, and 8 fewer points of CHA. The Galka weighs in at 463 more hitpoints than the TaruTaru. Again, assuming that AGI has nothing to do with damage output for Thieves(please correct me if I'm wrong), the Galka is far better than the Taru Taru for damage. Higher strength, same DEX. The Taru ONLY excels in AGI, and even then, not by all THAT much. 8 points. I guess the Taru would evade better, and would steal better, though the evasion issue shouldn't exist in a party with a good paladin. Or so I would hope. Unless you wanted to make good money, why would you want to be a TaruTaru thief? Is INT playing some role here of which I am unaware? Does AGI affect damage output?

Granted, none of this takes RSEs into account.

Lastly, while I must concede that Elvaan seem the least logical choice for the Thief job, I'm a little surprised that people seem so down on them. They actually field a higher STR than Galka Thief/Ninjas at level 70( 70 STR for Elvaan, 66 for Galka). Their AGI kind of stinks, but again, that should only be an issue for evasion and theft, right? Their DEX is 4 points lower than Galka(or Humes or Taru Taru), which is a bit of a downer, though I have to wonder . . . consider the total damage output of an Elvaan Thief/Ninja vs, say, Hume. The Elvaan would probably do less damage using Thief Weapon Skills and Job Abilities(I would assume, other posts seem to indicate this is due in large part to their low DEX), but he'd do more damage per hit. Starting both Thieves at 0 TP, just how much more damage would the Hume Thief do over the Elvaan? How much more damage would the Mitrha do?

All that being said, I'd still rather be a Galka Thief/Ninja than Elvaan, if only because Thief is up there with the "crappy Elvaan job choices" next to Elvaan Black Mage and Elvaan Summoner.

I can also see how any race could be playable as a thief(Elvaan still seems like a poor choice, but it might work).
