  • mini-ramuh fight strategy

ok heres my dilemma...so i go into this fight with ramuh with a melon pie activated... i start up, summon carbuncle, drink a yag drink, and charge ramuh...carbuncle attacks, i do astral flow, ramuh does thunderspark...i do searing light...and stupid thunderspark paralyzed me, so it gets interrupted!! GAHH!! is their anyway to prevent this at lvl 20? i cant get off the attack cause he paralyzes me, so i dont know what to do...i was thinkin that i should wait for the paralyze to wear off before activating astral flow, but im afraid carbuncle will die by then...help?

oh my summoning skill is only lvl 35, so im gonna try to raise that to help, as well.

I have not tested anything so don't flame me if I'm wrong, this is just hear say...

    -Max Summoning Skill
-Have Pies, Juices, Potions, and Ethers
-Carbuncle Mitts (helpful if you have them)

I'm not too good with Avatars, but Ramuh uses Thunderspark on you? In that case, try to get the hate on Carby, use the 2hr, Searing Light and run away. Your MP should be filling up, so run as far as you can, recast, run the other way, while using Searing Light again. Pop another pie (not sure of the cast time on ethers) and run to the other end, and repeat.

That's what my friend did on Shiva, I'm not sure how well it will work on the others though.

in all the avatar fights it is possible to get carby to attack him before he agros u. Slowly creep up to the avatar while constantly trying to use assault. u'll find the point where u can assault but not be agroed.

taht way u avoid this problem

          well heres what ive discovered...
so i sick carby on him in the beginning (after using a yag drink). he does thunderspark and i get paralyzed, but it doesnt matter cause i dont use astral flow then. so i run all the way back to the spawn point and let carby fight until death...

once carby dies, i resummon him. running down to the spawn point has given me enough distance to resummon him. i do that, then use astral flow. carby assaults, i use searing light, then run back up and use an ether. carby dies again, i resummon him. sick him back on ramuh, wait till i can use searing light again, and use it.

at this point hes almost dead...but when i did the fight, at this point he used his 2hr, killing both me and carby, which really frustrated me, but...

anyway, i think that before i activate the second searing light, i need put distance between me ramuh again, so i dont get hit...then i can resummon carby and finish him off...but my main concern is, can i activate searing light from a distance, or do i need to be close? i just dont want to get hit by the 2hr.

also, another thign ive realized...dont use high ethers, they take to long to use. normal ethers combined wth the regen from your yagudo drink should be enough mp to resummon carby and get off a searing light.

feel free to contribute totally different strategies if they work.

            damn. so close.

whats the wait period between fights? did you have full hp when he used judgement bolt?

what you could do is get someone else to go with you to the quest giver thats high enough to give you like protect II/III, barthundra, or, even better, refresh.

Are you sending Carbuncle up there and using Astral Flow right at the begining of the fight? Or are you getting his HP down some first? I'm just curious because I was confused on what you were saying on that part.

im not using astral flow at the beginning because i cant. he paralyzes me. when i tried shiva (just now, died again cause she cast blizzard II and killed carby in one hit before i could get off my second searing light) i did it at the start, since i wasnt paralyzed. but with him, i run down and wait for the paralyze wears off

Poor carby... she really tears the little guy up.

Hmm... funny thing I noticed from the video was that after the first "Assault" command that he used, he didn't have to use it again after re-summoning the later Carbuncles to get them to attack. I just tried the fight and for some reason I had to do "Assault" each time. Is there a trick to this that I missed after reading the FAQ?

I also noticed that his Carbuncle didn't vanish right after doing a Searing Light like mine do, is this a trick as well?

Probably the Yagudo drink. It ticks up your MP before Carbuncle vanishes (I think).

I noticed when I was LVing SMN that sometimes my Carbuncle would just attack the closest red target (/ta <bt>) and sometimes he wouldn't...

On the Searing Light, you have about 2 seconds to gain MP back or Carbuncle will disappear. They do give you some time, but its just enough to start running away.

Thanks for the replys! I am going to be trying this quite a few times. I find the fights fun so far.

One more thing that I noticed was that he would get a message on his screen that said "[Carbuncle] 0:11" once in a while. Couldn't figure out what this was, never seen it while I've played.

                            Thanks again!

That's another new thing that was added to the game in the recent patch. He has a macro like...

                              /ma Carbuncle <me>
                              /wait [number]
/recast Carbuncle <--- Gives the recast time on the spell.
