  • Flamers against Samurai?

    I don't understand why I see so many posts in the Samurai thread talking about how bad SAM is. Being a Lv61 SAM I can already say that even the all-mighty RNG/SAM is no comparison to our TP.

    I don't post here much, but I do read a lot. Samurai is the undisputed god of TP. Period. That is what I have gathered from my comrades on Leviathan (Bloodberry, Fuma, Siberia, Creamy... /bow), reading, and my own personal experiences.

    Another thing I hate seeing is bragging about how DRKs and MNKs out-damage us. That's like saying everyone outdamages a BRD. This is true; it is obvious. SAMs aren't designed for high-damage. Not melee, atleast. I have never outdamaged a good DRK or MNK (Sydel, Sidandor, Jett... /bow). But I have ran circles in TP around each. That is the true meaning of Samurai (As far as FFXI goes, atleast).

    I guess the point of this post is to just clarify that SAMs aren't damage dealers. We are TP builders and SC masters. BLMs love us, methinks. Sure, not as much as they love BRDs... but hey... heh..

    Sorry for the semi-rant. I just got tired of seeing noobs that are Lv25 asking why SAM is worthless. They don't know. They've only PTed with the horrible SAMs. You know the ones I mean. The ones in Full-AF, Balance Rings, Beetle Rings+1, Wolf Mantle+1... no Life Belt. The ones with maybe +8 DEX and +4 Accuracy. These are the Samurai that make us look bad; that make the posts about 'worthless samurai' come about. When they have PTed with real SAMs, then I beg of them... Come post. Come share with us your awe at the gods of TP. The Samurai.

    Aw, I'm hurt. I'm not included in that list of Samurai... :-(

    Anyway, Samurais are awesome damage dealers post 60. Once you gain THF sub, stack STR/meat/SATA, you can consistently deal huge chunks of damage every 2 minutes or so with a weapon skill. Sneak Attack and Trick Attack stacked with Tachi: Gekko/Kasha makes Samurai one of the most efficient damage dealers at end-game. I'm currently focusing on maxing out my THF sub and getting equipment to max out my STR+ (I already have over 100 STR now).

      Wouldn't RNG/SAM get too much hate in xp parties and die? (depending on the tank and level) I don't really have any idea, but this is what some RNG said to me when I asked him about it.

        Well... I have outdamaged poor-ass RNG before. RNG/SAM is gimped. Meditate is worthless when it's subbed. The only true way to be a good RNG/SAM is to have priorly played SAM. In which case you will learn... without the helm Meditate gives you 80-100TP. With the helm it gives 120-140. And subbed it give 60-80... That and the two store TPs compared to 4... not that great. Most RNGs will want to go /NIN for the very fact that they are so damaging... Utsusemi will save them =)

            friend did spiral hell for 2.3k......... that shut me up..... and war friend did steel cyclone for 2.2k.... shut me up also... :sweat:

            sams are ws DD with thf sub but....... war and drk got the nice and bigger dmg...... course they can only do that once in awhile........ and we can do 2 saws every 2mins or so depending on how u manage using your med and how often you're hitting

                Well, from what I've seen... DRKs output more damage. We do good damage, yes, but what job with the right equipment doesn't? (Unless they're a job that's suppose to be doing something else other than dealing dmg)

                I'm just getting angry at all of these RNG/SAMs that think they can out-TP SAMs. It annoys me that they are so ignorant. Maybe with the Kraken Club they stand a chance -- a small one, but Kraken Club has to be the lamest weapons... that's another story.

                Anyhow, Lv62 now. Trying to grind up to 65 for Gekko. Which sub would be more useful? I hear SAM/THF really isn't that good compared to the constant dmg SAM/WAR puts out.

                      2k+ on what, precisely? IT mobs, HNMs? I seriously doubt it, even with 300% TP. Perhaps on IT mobs, but in the time it takes a DRK or WAR with GAxe to get 300% TP I could have done 3-4 1k+ SATA Gekko/Kasha. =p

                      Oh, and RNG/SAM is probably the worst combination you'll ever see any RNG use. And no, RNG/SAM doesn't gain TP any faster than any semi-decent SAM main.

                        RNG builds faster TP then SAM on any sub. RNG is a lot more accurate and gets normally 15+ tp a hit. You can also have your delay time cut down randomally. On HNM nothing can compete with a RNG TP build.

                          Only because HNMs are stupidly resistant to Melee, heh. RNGs don't build TP faster on EXP Mobs. Period.

                              Barrage gives you pretty good TP too. Even with RNG/NIN the RNG can kinda play the role of the SAM as long as the other 2 melee can do some decent SC with the RNG. Just let the RNG WS,Barrage, shot a couple of arrows, and ready to go again . SAM/RNG will get 17 TP per arrow landed. With good gear and good use of sharp shot RNG is pretty fast building TP. RNG/SAM is not that good if you just use meditate to spam WS, aslong as you try and fit your RNG to become a pseudo SAM (by alternating barrage and meditate as TP building tools) then you should be fine. I do remember a time when RNG/SAM and sidewinder spaming where consider good....along the time penta spam was good...and gillo spam...till they nerfed the tp thing and made everyone go back to doing SC...
