    for all the sam haters

For all you sam haters out there this is my opinion for you. I personally feel that samurai is the best melee class and has the best overall damage output. I am currently a lvl 25 sam and have had a blast leveling him so far. I wear 2 balance rings, 2 bettle earing +1, spike necklace, attack+3 gloves, chainmail and the level cap katana. Im fully equipped with meat mithakabos. So far I have consitently outdamaged per hit every warrior, dark, and dragoon I have come across with with simillar gear. I know at higher levels my dmg per hit will not be as strong as a darks or a dragoons due to lack to str but overall I know for a fact that I will deal more damage and be more consitent in the long run. The reason behind this is simply tp. People do not understand how good samurai raise tp and meditate abilities really are. For all those people saying sam has useless abilities in my opinions they have the best. How can you say 3tp up abilities along with the god of all meditate is crap. Every ability that sam gets complements the character to the fullest. With drg, and dark doing more damage per hit I will still be outdamaging them over the long run as after every few hits I will be performing a weapon skill not to mention chaining with every one elses weapon skills that they are performing. Sam is extremelly versitile as it can self chain, always have enough to chain with others and unleash massive burst of weapons skills to finish monsters. Not to mention with war sub you gain awesome abilities, berserk, attack up, and defender if needed to take over agro from pal. As far as sams tanking abilities sam makes an excellent back up tank. So far I have had more def more vit and more hp then every war I have partied with. Samurias third eye and defender from war are also critical in way sam is a perfect backup tank. Sam is 3rd best tank following pal and ninja and can easily grab hate unleasing a few weapons skills and a voke. A sam with always up to date gear makes far better of a contributor in my opinion than any other melee class. Not to mention that sam gets a new 7 hit great katana weapon skills at lvl 72 which you have to quest for. Can you say 7 hit meditate 7 hit meditate ummm PENTA WHO.... My goal is to show people that sam does not suck and is one of the best or the best melee in the game people just dont know how to use them. I keep my gear the best possible for its level and parties want and rave about me like no other how awesome sam is. Bottom line is sam will outdamage any melee over time consitenly pully weapon skills, chaining with others, and opening up oportunities for mages to Magic burst. People by far focus way to much on damage per hit going wow look how much that gulliotine hit for but wait I didnt realize that in the time it took him to build up tp for it the sam consitently hit the mob much more times and performed 3-4 weapon skills while still having enough to chain with it. Overall sam is the funnest class I have played so far. Enough said.

Seven-hit WS? From whom did you hear this? There is not one great katana skill in the game, skill 1-250, that is more than 2-hit.

i will try to get a picture of it but at lvl 72 you a 7 hit weapon skill which you have to do a quest for. It have been confirmed by many high lvl japanese players.

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. At 71 you can quest for Tachi: Kasha, a very powerful, but one-hit-only skill. It has been confirmed up and down the message boards. I mean no disrespect, but there's no need to spread disinformation.

Ive seen these all done by high lvl sams Tachi:Jinpu,Tachi:Gekko, and Tachi:Kasha seemed to do the best damage. In Kuftal Tunnel getting my coffer key the lvl 75 Sam helping me was consistently doing 800+ damage with both Tachi Kasha and Tachi Gekko, One occasion his double attack kicked in he did 1k+. But these were weak monsters to him dont know how the dmg on those differ on IT mobs.

Ummm... yeah... I'm lucky my eyeballs didn't drown in that sea of punctuation-less prattle...

It seems as though some people are being completely mislead by the subject title. I'm not in any way saying that SAMs are even sub-par... I'm asking (note the >"?").

In any case, back to the original topic, what I've been trying to establish is if there is anything that Samurai contributes to a group that could not be better filled by another class. That's about it.

So, supposing that there were any given party of five lvl. 75, fully equipped, totally souped up players, and there were only one slot left in the party, would there ever be a situation in which an optimal SAM would be the best thing to possibly have? I guess no one really knows until they reach the higher levels...

                oh geeze...

Yea...I'm happy he is all for Samurai and all...but yea....
The fact of the matter is, there is no "best" job out there. Every job has it's strengths and weaknesses. Some days I can be on fire and just be hitting the WS like crazy and then there are the days where a dragoon my level will just never miss and would do a nice amount of damage. I guess it's because I and many others have play'd almost all the other melee jobs and have learned to respect them all. I am a Samurai but I am still impressed by dragoons and am very greatful to high level Warriors. Well equiped Dark Knights (With common sense as to know when to let go of hate) are always a plus. At least that's what the Paladin in our PT says.

                Take care!

most "optimal" high level parties that i see (i'm not high-level persay, but i have lots of friends at/above/around 70) that have samurai in their group..

one consists of sam/pld/whm/blm/brd/thf (this is also the setup of my spt)
                  another is war/sam/whm/blm/rdm/thf
                  yet another is nin/thf/whm/blm/brd/sam
and the last high level party i know of has sam/pld/drk/whm/blm/brd

i know about half the people in those parties, and their level range is 66-73, and they all say that they don't function as well if they swap out the sam or the rdm/brd. samurai is the glue that keeps melees together, as bard is the glue that keeps mages together.

                  wwwwww {Do you have it?}

I never understand it when people list their optimal parties but don't offer the sub jobs... How am I supposed to know where they're going with that?

because a mnk/war and mnk/sam will always be an attacker
and a rdm/blm or rdm/whm will always be the support caster

Yes, but a MNK/WAR can back-up tank, and a MNK/SAM will focus on WSs. A RDM/WHM can back-up heal whereas a RDM/BLM will toss MBs. The subjob generally says a lot about the tactical dynamics of the party. If it didn't, there wouldn't be so many debates over subjob combinations.

Or we could just say that we'll have 3 melees and 3 casters and pretend that people new what kind of strategy we were planning.

Point being in that a main job can change roles based on its sub.

yes, but 'backup' means someone fudges up, I guess 'ideal' parties don't ever fudge up

and a rdm/blm will heal just as well as a rdm/whm, with the exeption that he will lack divine seal.
