Do magic shops run out of scrolls? I was looking at the RDM page on FFXIpedia type thingy and I can't find some of the spells that I should be able to use. Right now I'm level 6 and I can't seem to find Barstone, Paralize, Poisen. I'm in Bastok if that helps.

In your case:
Barstone is sold from the mogic shop in Lower Jeuno.
Paralyze drops off of low level beastmen (I think it's Amber Quadavs if you're in Bastok?)
Poison should show up in your town's magic shop if your city is at least #2 in conquest if I recall.

Originally posted by IcemageShops never run out of scrolls, but some spells are only sold in certain shops or under certain conditions, and other spells can only be acquired from defeating certain monsters or from certain battles or chests.

Re: Questions bout some spells...
Don't make the trip to Jeuno just for Barstone. It's not a particularly useful spell. I'd recommend being at least level 20 before even venturing there, as there really isn't much to do around there until then.

Re: Questions bout some spells...
When in doubt, check the Regional Map to get a general idea of how and where zones are connected, and follow your maps. If you don't have a map to somewhere, following the dirt paths is a good idea, and usually where there's paths, there's also signposts. I always find exploring to be a lot of fun, but if you feel like "cheating," you can always check FFXI Atlas for maps, and Mysterytour/Somepage/Allakhazam for beastiaries.
Oh, yes, one last thing. Be very wary of sound-aggro mobs. You've probably figured it out already, but sound-aggro mobs will attack you if you come within a certain radius of them - keep your distance at all times if you don't have the Sneak spell. Malboro, Quadav, and Goobbue all aggro to sound. If you don't go straight from Bastok, also be sure to steer clear from Raptors and Walking Trees.
EDIT: Lol, I got out-posted while I typed. But yeah, I did overlook that. It's not particularly worth going out of your way for it. If you can have someone send it from Jeuno, or simply wait 'til you have to go to Jeuno anyways, that's much better.Last edited by Armando; 05-13-2006, 10:17 AM.

How are you possibly going to encounter a Cockatrice going from Bastok to Jeuno unless you go via Mhaura? And aren't Tigers sight?

Re: Questions bout some spells...
It's always a good idea to keep acquire all your spells. Though you CAN put a priority on what is acquired first. Barstone is best when paired with Barpetrify, but both are rather useless in the sense that they don't really help you resist, just improve your chances of recovering quicker. Their usefulness is halved when you take into account that both spell don't last very long at all. It's quite depressing.
In short, it's good to have the barspells at some point, but no big rush.

I may be from "Lastok" but I certainly have Outpost warp to W.Sarabaruto. Things like that help me sleep at night. I'm just waiting for Ronfarue and then my empire will be complete.66MNK | 37WAR | 22SAM | 20THF | 20BST | 18 NIN | 17BLM | 10WHM
