  • Biggest Challenge PT Gave You?

Since RDMs are more or less used for versatility after ppl want/need us as Refresh whores, what we the biggest challenge to your job a pt gave you? I'm talking about things along the lines of asking you to refresh 5 ppl and enfeeble at the same time (for instance, a pt including PLD, WHM, BLM, DRK and yourself) or a WHM asking you to do all the Hasting despite the fact that its perfectly easy for them to do it themselves.

I know that the most recent thing I did was becoming the main healer for my static before I took a hiatus from the game. Static was PLD, BRD, DRG, THF and myself as RDM. Usually we invited a WHM or a SMN/WHM, and while killing was safe and steady, we only averaged 3.5-4k an hour. In addition we only had 2.5-3.5 hours a night to exp including setup and finding a spot to level.

I decided on being Main Healer and with that, we were able to invite damage dealers. (SAM worked nice with us, as did WAR, RNG and MNK) I guess, looking back, I fell into my role quite nicely, and it wasnt that complicated. But I feel it was a challenge that I was able to approach nicely. (after we decided to change to chaining VT mobs in Upper Del tower, it wasnt uncommon for us to get 6-7k an hour ^^)

For me was the Orc god Bagodak battle back when the cap 70 was just released.
I was in the tank PT with BRD SMN RDM PLDx3.
I was expected to keep everyone refreshed all the time. Haste the SMN, AND keep collecting TP for spirit within...

Note that the battle always lasted more than 3 hours. Combined with the fact that my LS w always hunted around 3-4AM my time , was my biggest challenge... keeping focus, staying awake, etc >.< (jp ls btw)

So far, main healer and only mage vs Antica in Quicksands. Between all their buffs, maintaining Silence, and a standard 3-person refresh cycle I was a busy little taru. Regen, Silence, Dispel, Refresh, Paralyze, Cure II, Dispel, Refresh, Cure III, re-Silence, Dispel, Refresh, Blindna, Blindna, MB, /stagger... It was a skilled pt so the exp was great, but by the end of that juggling act my macros were about to fall off...

PT of PLD, DRK, BLMx2, SMN, and myself in Bibiki Bay at 66. I was expected to do all 6 refresh, keep PLD and DRK hasted, enfeeble and dispel BLM gobs, use Pro IV and shell III on all PT members, cure half the time while the SMN used avatars (no knock against that lol), and MB on the Darkness SC. The 10 min between convert seemed like forever.

(P.S. i just tryed to tab Darkness, how sad ><)

It was me, a PLD, and 3 DD's. (DRG WAR DRK, i think) in bibiki bay ~66-67.

We had a brd when we came out, but d/c'd like twice in the first five fights. I basicly looked at them and said "if you dont mind gimping short at Chain 3's, cuz I cant hold out till #4, i dont care." to which they said "fuck it.. we'll just pull till you say stop!"

I think i got more exp in that 3 hrs pt, than i do in most 6 member pts. Since then, i have never subbed BLM for exp XD. I think i fell in love with my newly accquired (full) WHM sub (picked up erase that morning ^^).

Well, lately, in my first sky party I had some fun fighting Weapons. We had one turn of "bad luck" where a bunch of weapons repopped pretty much right on top of where the melees were fighting and linked/aggrod. At one point I was keeping 3 weapons slept, the one the pt was fighting debuffed, whm, blm, pld and myself refreshed, and the mnk hasted. Was a lot of fun ^^ No one died, we missed chain #6 on all the slept weapons b y about 6 seconds, the Ranger said. We would have had it, but I was in range of the last weapon's Stun move so it stopped my Magic Burst (the 600ish DMG would have ended the fight, or damn near).

Weapons in Ro'Meave are a RDM's worst nightmare BAR NONE. Add to that a party that is already stressful for a RDM (ie whm, blm, pld, drk, rdm, ???) and you have a situation that makes really appreciate what a RDM is all about.

Infernal weapons, and apocolyptic weapons are what you fight. Infernal weapons are RDM type. Apocolyptic are what you pray for during these camps. The RDM ones can be buffed up to the gils at the time they are pulled, and they sometimes also cast protect and shell on the non-mage ones. Possible spells include, but not limited to:

Protect, Shell, Aquaveil, En-spell, Haste, Blaze spikes, Blink, Stoneskin, Regen.

Imagine having to debuff these mobs (Paralyze, Silence, Slow) PLUS refreshing 5 people (DRK only when less than 50% mp) and Dispel x 5-6, depending on what mob buffed with, and which buff your dispel negates. If I can get lucky and get the protect and shell first try, I stop there. If I get Aquaveil and regen, I gotta keep going.

In one of these type parties, the WHM actually /tell me and ask if I can haste the DRK!! lol. I felt like saying F*** you, but I politely advised why I cant.

The worst part is, on the average mob, by the time you actually get a chance to cast slow/para (silence takes top priority on the RDM-type) the fight is almost over lol. This exp spot is a TRUE test of your RDM witts. Truthfully, for me, the thing that I hated the most about this area was when I actually exp'ed here, we had a couple members that were a level or 2 too high, and killed exp anyway, making it pure hell on me and crappy exp to boot.

I LOVE Ru'avitau weapons in comparison to these (Decorative weapons onry, thanks, they dont cast magic ^^)

Oh, did I mention that in this particular pt, the leader requested I sub WHM (no idea why) meaning I had no drain/aspir/mp conserve, and my nukes (when I got the odd chance) were always resisted.

                  /em pulls hair out.

haha weapons in ro'meave. try rdm/brd and you'll barely have time to breathe. PT always want me to start the battle with dispel asap which sometimes take 4-5 times to get rid of all their buffs (blm wants shell dispelled, tanks want haste+en, melee wants protect). Sing madrigal for fighters and ballad for mages and add refresh/haste cycle on top of that.

And imaging doing that for 4-5 hours.

Couple tips for spellcasting weapons, Jei: Since you're subbing Bard, open with Finale, then swap in Dispel, then re-use Finale when it's available. Finale will NEVER be resisted by weapons (or skeleton mages in KRT for that matter), and costs 0 mp.

Against weapons that cast buffs (Aura Weapons in sky, Infernal Weapons in Ro'Maeve), Diaga is your best friend as long as there are no links. If you don't want to cast that, since you're using /BRD, Horde Lullaby is a fantastic way to wipe away Blink before you start dispelling. There's nothing more irritating than casting Dispel only to have it stopped cold by a shadow and absorbed.

Hope you arent fighting them again as RDM, exp would suck @ level 73 Stick to D-weapons in sky. They are easier and give better exp.

I agree that Ro'Maeve weapons are the biggest challenge. I disagree that /whm would cause elemental spells to get resisted (since I'm exclusively /whm and the bursts I see rdm/blms do when on my whm are on par with my own) but that's a whole other discussion.

More interestingly is the most fun I've had as a RDM in xp. Had a party with a SMN healer, 2xRNG, SAM, NIN and me. Since Refresh wasn't a big problem, I meleed the whole time and made Light skillchain with one of the RNGs (which I also bursted off of...fun!). I have never enjoyed RDM as much as in that party.
