  • Merit Point Distribution

I've been wondering what everyone else has been spending their points on?

    Max HP+10 - Lv1 (1mp spent)
    Max MP+10- Lv1 (1mp spent)

STR/ DEX/ VIT/ AGI / INT / MND / CHR - cost 3 mp each... didnt seem worth it for a single point.

    Evasion Skill (+2) - Lv1 (1mp spent)
    Enhancing Magic Skill (+2) - Lv1 (1mp spent)
    Enfeebling Magic Skill (+2) - Lv1 (1mp spent)
    Elemental Magic Skill (+2) - Lv1 (1mp spent)

    Spell Interruption Rate (+2%) - Lv2 (3mp spent)

Still not too sure if the 1/5 means we can only spend 5 pts total in that category combined ot just each skill can be raised to Lv5.

1/5 means you can spend total 5 points in the entire category.

    Me I have 4mp, 1hp, 2enfeebling and 1archery upgrades, total of 150k exp spent on merits so far -_-;;

      I plan on getting:

      5 MP (+50)

5 MND (+5 I think) Or 1 of MND INT DEX STR VIT, so whenever I level sidejobs I have a little bonus to everything, and the bonus isn't mitigated from job level.

5 Enfeebling, or some mix of Enhancing/Enfeebling.

5 Swords (+10, if the units are +2.)

5 Spell Interruption (-10% if units are -2% interruption.)

Though I haven't done a ton of research into this subject, I mostly plan on making up for less MP from subjob choice, more potent melee, and less chance of interruption... All to improve my soloing, tanking, or support meleeing as RDM/NIN. But that's a long ways away, and I expect all the information about Merit Points to become public before I even start working on it. XD

total of 5 points? By Points do you mean Merit Points or Levels?

this is assuming each Lv cost more merit pts ie-

        Lv1 costs 1 merit pt = 10k xp
        Lv2 costs 2 merit pt = 30k xp spent to get Lv2
        Lv3 costs 3 merit pt = 60k xp spent to get Lv3
        Lv4 costs 4 merit pt = 100k xp spent to get Lv4
        Lv5 costs 5 merit pt = 150k xp spent to get Lv5

so you can spend 15 merit points to reach Lv5 MP Max, or spend 11 Merit Points to reach Lv4 MP Max and Lv1 HP Max? or 9 Merit Points total to become Lv3 MP Lv2 HP?

I'm not really sure how this whole thing works, but I'll give it a shot:

There are 3 total categories: Skills, HP/MP, and Stats.
You get a total of 10 merit points possibly (I think).
You can spend a maximum of 5 points in one category.
          Therefore:
As a BLM, I most likely will spend:
5 points on Elemental Magic Skill (+10 EMS).
5 points on MP (+50 mp).

If I were a Paladin, however, I may choose this instead:
3 points to HP (+30 hp)
2 points to MP (+20 mp)
5 points towards Spell Interuption Rate

I'm not really sure though, this is just how I've understood it to work.

I think the 1/5 means you can only spend 5 merit points on each thing. Don't know about the categories though. I wish someone could clear this up though, as it seems like MP is a silly way to do things (somebody could twink their next job so ridiculous its not even funny).

I dont think it works that way Atrapos, I didnt do much research so raised a whole bunch of skills to Lv1 since they each only cost ONE merit point (10k xp) I only raised % Spell interuption to Lv2, but it cost a total of 3 merit points (spent 1 merit point to reach Lv1, spenr 2 merit points to go from Lv1 to Lv2)

If you can only spend 5 merit points on one thing, that would mean you could never reach Lv3 (1+2+3 > 5) assuming it costs one more merit per Lv as per my previous post. 10 Merit points is the max you can hold w/o spending them on something, not the total Merit Points you are ever allowed to earn. Each time you earn a merit point (10k limit pts) it adds to your unspent total.

              Oh wow!

Ok, so I get it somewhat now. Questions:
Is there a hard cap to the amount of merit points you can earn? As in, can you just continually earn/spend Merit Points?

Is it that you can only have 5 *levels* per category?

You get a MP every 10k exp after hitting lv75, or after maxing the exp in lv75 and THEN gaining MP? Isn't that hard to keep track of?

What did you mean by (10k limit pts)?

I am not too sure of the answer to some of those Qs, but will answer what I know.

When you reach 75 you can talk to a moogle near Maat to enable merit mode. You actually turn it on/off though your moogle menu in your mog house.

EXP Mode - earn normal XP. once you hit 43,999 xp, your name turns blue and you start earning "limit points". You can check how many limit points you currently have XXXX/10,000 from your status menu.
Merit Mode - your name is blue and you only earn "limit points" regardless of if your xp is capped or not. Not sure what happens if you de-level to 74, but dying in Merit Mode loses normal "expiernce points", you cant lose limit points.

The Update when the Merit System came out was clear on what happens in you de-level to 74. If you delevel to 74 you'll be switched to EXP Mode, once you level back to 75 you can either switch to Merit Mode or wait till you max out your EXP and it switches you (Completly your choice).

I'm currently on upgrade #4 for enfeebling.. 3 merit points to go.

                    Enfeebling Upgrade 1 - 1 Merit Point - 10k Limit Points
                    Enfeebling Upgrade 2 - 2 Merit Point - 20k Limit Points
                    Enfeebling Upgrade 3 - 3 Merit Point - 30k Limit Points

For magic, you can only upgrade 4 times.

After I cap out Enfeebling, I might go raise Archery once so I can use Sidewinder at 54 on my RNG then work on -emnity, +HP, and after that, I'm not too sure..

It looks like you can only upgrade a skill for a total of 4 times so those catagories such as Combat Skills you can upgrade a single skill 4 times and have two more total upgrades availible for you.

                        Merits

                        Mp/Hp: 2hp up, 3mp up.
                        Stats: 3str up.¨
Combat Skills: 4 G.katana up, 2 evasion up.
Magic Skills: 2 Enfeebling up, 2 Elemental up.
Others: 2 crits up, 2 spell interrupt down.

Since I'm gonna be samurai as well, this is my way.

                        Worst one will be the 2 strs I have left to up, 6points for next str, I'm guessing 9 for last.... that's 60+90k exp... for a sun ring. ;_;

                        150k for Attributes
                        1+2+3+1+2: 90k for hp/mp
                        1+2+3+4+1+2: 130k for Comb Skill
                        1+2+1+2: 60k for Magic Skill
                        1+2+1+2: 60k for Others

Grand total: 490k exp to max my merits the way I want.
Looks like I'm not through grinding just yet!

Do you guys know if the new job specific upgrades affects all jobs? I recently hit 75 with rdm and noticed that merit point applies across the board for all jobs you have. Thus, since I have 4 points in elemental magic for blm, I can only upgrade enfeebling twice. (Which really pisses me off)

So I'm thinking about just pouring points into the job specific categories instead of actual magic skill lvls. According to what I read on the update, you can only put points into job specific categories if you have that job at 75, HOWEVER, once you put points in it, does that carry to your other jobs at 75 also? For example, if I upgrade my elemental seal timer, does my rdm get timer down also? Really apprieciate the help from anyone with multiple jobs at 75^^ Thanks.

Btw, I find it funny that if you have a fully upgraded pld with all enimity up for MP, and then decide to lvl whm to 75, you'd get mad hate after a cure I. Just find that interesting :spin:

According to the info in the patch notes about the job-specific upgrades, they are *only* active on *that* job at level 75.

Other stuff does carry over, though progressively. You'll get the first stage MP upgrade at level 10 no matter what the job. WAR/MNK? Sure, you'll have 10MP at level 10.

So yeah, Enmity tweaks seem odd to me. Seems like there should be a way to turn that off.
