Fortunately, a high level NIN with capped evasion means most of that does miss quite often, and with Stun as well, he's neutered pretty well apparently.^^

I went there again today and got another 6 straight wins.
I subbed DRK for Stun and it was awesome. Recasting time of Stun is basically 45 seconds but it was 38 seconds for me with Warlock's Chapeau due to Fast Cast (= Fast Recast). I casted Haste on myself and it was then 32 seconds, WOW.
Whenever I saw the NM try to use Heat Breath (did 400 - 500 damage when unresisted) or I saw our NIN tank try to cast Utsusemi:Ichi, I casted Stun. The battle went on very smoothly.
In addition, I asked NIN to arm 2x Bat Earring when he was hit by Great Sandstorm today. He was blinded but his accuracy wasn't harmed a lot. He kept 60+% accuracy while evading 66.0% of all attacks.
By the way, I sold my Earth Staff to one of BRDs at 65K and let him to equip it when he sang Carnage Elegy. OMG, he was still LV62 but it landed 13 times out of 90 --- compared to only 2 times last time.
http://www5.sppd.ne.jp/grendal/FF11/elegy.gif
When both Elegy and Slow landed, that manty was something like another creature...
As for me, I brought both Thanatos Baselard and Elite Beret for +8 enfeebling magic skill but Slow only landed two times. It was resisted even when I MBed it. I'll go there as RDM75/DRK37 next time and see what's gonna happen. If it is still resisted, then merit points to the skill?
It is easy for 70+ RDMs to get 30+ Kindred Seals from soloing in a week. If we're very lucky, we're able to get Damascus Ingot and Woodville's Axe at a time from this BCNM --- Total 2.7M worth...

Apple, I was curious if you thought that having both bards was a neccesisity. So far, I've gather a nin, a rdm, a war/nin, and a bard together, and I'm curious as to who should make up the 6th spot. I'm tempted to take a bard like you did (I have access to almost any job, usually 70+), but at the same time, the people I'm going with are nervous about this BCNM, and they want to have some reassurance (namely, Raise III). Do you think it would work with BLM/RDM/WHM/BRD/NIN/WAR(/nin)? Keep in mind that the nin, war, whm, rdm are all lv75 with very good gear (Nin has Scorpian harness, whm has noble's tunic, war has the +30 attack axe, RDM has erm...320something enfeebling magic, etc.), and the brd and I are both lv71, brd with very good gear, me being gimpy without all my equips.Originally posted by Apple Pie

Two BRDs are not necessary. My LS has gotten around to doing this BCNM recently, but they've only done one run so far. They completed it with NIN/WAR, RNG/NIN, THF/NIN, WHM/something, BRD/WHM, and BLM/WHM. I'm pretty sure both the THF and the RNG were 74+, so they could handle hate for a little bit if the NIN lost control.

I agree with DM337. I realized two BRDs were not necessary if:
1) There is a secondary tank (either NIN/WAR or WAR/NIN)
2) There is someone who have access to Stun
3) Carnage Elegy often lands (= There is a high LV BRD in the PT)
Having WHM isn't bad because Flash also helps tanks to recast Utsusemi safely. Just make sure someone recasts either Blind or Ninjyutsu 15 seconds after Flash lands.
As for you, be careful not to use your strongest magic at MB
Either Water III or Blizzard III might be appropriate. If you use higher magic, you'll soon be aggroed and you know what's gonna happen T_T

so as long as the casting timer bar thing reaches 100% its ok to change equipment then right? and you dont have to wait for the visual effects of the spell to be finished.

Back when this bcnm first came out I tried this at 73 or so. We failed 3 times out of 3 times but we learned a lot about what to expect from the BC and we'll be back there eventually with more knowledge and better equip, I'm sure we'll win easily this next time.
I found that Paralyze was the best spell ever as it was easy to land on Purson and most of our damage came from melee as the blm was getting hit way too often. Having the blm stand off to the side of the stairs can help if the blm gets agro because I think he also does Max MP down and its good to stay out of range of that (Its been a long time I don't remember if he does it or not).Relic Stage 5: Excalibur Completed.

Yes, I think those who can tank with Utsusemi are necessary because Purson always use Blood Weapon + Something like Hundred Fists. Can only a NIN/WAR tank this Manticore? Can a PLD handle it fine?
Therefore, we need either NIN/WAR or WAR/NIN with eva+ gears. Having two of them is nice since one of special attacks, Deadly Hold, sometimes does 900+ damage and one can be killed by accident.
So, Atrapos, take Discordian with you to get some advice since you two seems to be in the same LS.

Good. I'm rather curious how many times his Slow lands. If it lands often, then I'm going out XPing... I'm bored these days and I'm camping at Castle Zvahl every day to make money and get beastman / kindred seals. He was the RDM I was talking about with Uber gear

I actually want to see what a ninja can do with throwing damage on Purson as I've seen our LS ninja do some great damage when motivated to throw gil. If a 2 nin/wars doing throwing or 2 rng/nins can stay on opposite sides of the room they can pull Purson back and forth if they need to reblink themselves.Originally posted by Apple Pie

My LS did this BCNM30 after 2 failed cactuary BCNM (damn that ones hard or we didn't have the setup)
I found this NM to be easier than Charybdis. Although I've never used a NIN tank on chary (NIN in the LS recently dinged 75), this BCNM was much easier.
I was landing para often with aquillo's. Never resisted in teh 4? times i used it. Only exceptions was when the NIN got off jubaku.
Setup was BRD/WHM, WHM/BLM, RDM/BLM, NIN/WAR, SAM/WAR, RNG/NIN. NIN never lost hate but did go to yellow a few times. He does hit much "softer" than charybdis. I've fought him at least 6 times with differing setups.
Although I have seen 2 NIN/WARs with 2x mambo kill charybdis. (wasted 5 hours popping him that day)
We were going to try it again but other LS duties came up.

Finally, I got Joyeuse today.
I had nothing special to do this afternoon and went to See Serpent Grotto alone to say hello to Charybdis. I was lucky because some of LS mates came after me although they were looking for the other NM dropping Minstrel's Coat.
I soloed two Devil Mantas every 16 minutes with NIN sub, met them again and helped killing Sahagins. After I was running back and forth for four hours, the BST (Galka BRD at Chary's fight) finally found it on his wide scan.
I immediately went back to Norg and changed NIN sub to WHM. Unfortunately, our talented NIN tank (The one wearing Scorpion Harness at Chary's fight) was XPing at Tu'Lia and he said he couldn't come but he would be able to join in 20 minutes. We asked our WHM's friend (NIN72) to tank.
There seemed to be no rival there but one RDM and SMN showed up soon. I searched them and found they were in a PT. We were afraid if Chary was stolen and we decided to engage with it although we're not ready at all. Yes, that was nightmare. Except for our BLM and WHM, all of us were killed. Atla (NIN72) became LV71...
After we all got Raise III and recovered, we started to re-engage because again we were afraid if it was stolen. Anyway, we only had NIN71 not only as a tank but also as an attacker. Although enfeebling spells all landed and so did Carnage Elegy, tanking seemed to be a little hard for NIN71. I was wondering if we all ran out of MP before finishing this battle.
Well, we were lucky again. Chary used the sp attack called Ink Jet. Yes, it's time for him to equip 2x Bat Earrings. Then, the night came and his AF2 legs latent effect (eva. +10) kicked on. Tanking went on very smoothly after that. 15 minutes later, he finally showed up. We had two NIN tank and we started to rush. It was defeated at last. I believe it took us more than 20 minutes.
I was so nervous that I failed to run Fraps until we started to rush. Anyway, here's the battle toward the end.

You'll see how nerbous I was even after we killed it. I checked my inventory two times to see if it was full or not and I mistakenly opened LS menu before I lotted Joyeuse
Joyeuse is simply great. I don't have any word to express how great it is. It's just awesome. DA triggers very often and I realize 50% chance to trigger isn't false. This is the sword for RDM.
Finally, I must agree with IdtBcn. Chary hit us very hard. The highest dmg we took was 400 per hit. ヽ(`д´)ノ
