I'm so pissed at my friend right now. I knew he was a moron when he was like "I dont much care for magic. If it isnt curing me, i couldnt give a shit."

This m-fing fool had the nerve to say that RDM's were "Low level White and black mages, and low level Warriors."

Omfg... It took all the discipline i had not to give him an axe kick right to the top of his doofy skull. I dont even know where to start getting on him in FFXI, he was so whack... He's a lvl 13 WAR in Valk Dunes with Leather Armor, his one handed sword is under leveled, he hits for crap damage, and he is just.... ass...

I suppose its my fault. When I left my RDM from one of my friends account (May Alister the Red rest in peace), when i got my own, I fully expected him to be deleted and forgotten. No..

My dumb ass friend had the nerve to use Alister, and had a cakewalk time since i had WAR and 1h-sword leveled to cap at 15 RDM already.

I'm so pissed. My Char-stealing friend makes NA players just look bad. He was begging me and the friend we were all playing off of (for the record, his name is Zexx, and he just dinged 37 on his THF) with our characters for money.

Well.... pre-41, we ARE pretty much what he says--a mix of whm blm and war. But until we get to spam Refresh (fun fun >_>) that's pretty much what we do, with a specialty in enfeebling.

Don't take it personally, though. A lot of people are self important when it comes to their job. There's a difference between pride and blind arrogance though.

In the dunes, he's right. Rdm gets nothing a Whm, Blm, or War already don't have, but Rdm miss out on a bunch of things. Until Dispel, a Rdm isn't needed or generally wanted in a party set-up.

Even before we get dispel and refresh we're still one of a mages best friends (next to bard).

We take the job of enfeebling away from the whms and blms (it's what we do and it saves them MP for what they should be doing). We can backup cure in a pinch, and we can also nuke. Also at lower levels, we can actually melee. Skillchain too if needed.

Enfeebles, aren't anything really to laugh at. Dia or Bio, Slow, Para, Blind, Gravity...

Sounds like a good package to me.

So what you're saying is that your friend is a noob, and he acts pretty much like all the other noobs, and this upsets you?

I don't know if there's a cure for noobness other than playing the game. Even then, he'll have to open his mind and be willing to learn, or he's doomed to cruddiness along with all the other noobs. Either way, don't let it phase you. Don't give him money and don't PL him, either, it will only make it worse.

In Yuhtunga/Yhoator my Regen did a lot of work, and my Slow + Dia + Paralyze stuck =o

I would still welcome RDM at lower lvls, BLM are hard to find, and good casting RDM are nice to have.

=P Heh, yeah, i suppose the ONLY cure for n00bness isnt playing, but being around good ppl. When I saw a few videos (ok, i dont mean to drop Apple Pie's name, but come on...) I understood how to be a DROP DEAD ASS KICKER by myself.

And yes, Enfeebs are a best friend to the entire pt, because a lot of times (mostly cause of bad pts) the THF and the gimp WAR in my pt were hitting the crabs for 0 damage, and the mages were outta mp for spamming the high cost spells that did crap. Thanx to dia and poison (from you know who!!!!) the Snippers often fell to the ground.

I hate the dunes.. and while i may get a bit of exp from Korrolokka, its still better than anything that Qufim can give. Getting 196 every so often from a chain is not cool when you've been getting 43 for a while. so i'd stick with my 120 constantly.

And besides, when I die, i learn from it, and i come back stronger!

Whm and Blm at low levels can just as effectively make their enfeebles stick on IT's since the difference between an A rating and a C rating at that level is minimal (at level 20, the difference is 5).

Don't get me wrong, I love being/playing Rdm. But at low levels, your passed over for a Whm or a Blm for a reason.

Red Mage is easily one of the strongest jobs for the first 25 levels. Almost the same melee attack power as a WAR, almost the same defensive power as a Paladin. Almost as much healing power as a WHM, almost as much nuking power as a BLM.

True, each of those jobs is better at their specialty than a red mage is, but they can't shift roles the way RDM can either. Party in trouble and getting pounded? Switch your style and turn into a full time backup healer. Party lacking in offense? Cue up an Enspell and go beat on the monster with a couple nukes thrown in.

This versatility is the strength of the red mage job at early levels. Later on (41+), the Red Mage role gets more rigidly defined, and the opportunities to switch roles become less common, but for those early levels, a red mage really can do it all, and do a pretty good job of any role they choose to take on in a party.

Sure, WHMs and BLMS at low levels can just as effectively make enfeebles stick on ITs. That's not an argument. But why is the WHM and BLM wasting MP on enfeebling?

Especially if you're going up against some INT mobs, I'd be pissed if the WHM ran out of MP because they were so busy throwing enfeebles out.

Most of the PTs I was in didn't have a WHM because they were usually taken and unavailable. With me and another RDM, we more than compensated for healing and enfeebling.

I thought it was great.

i dont think you are in the spot to be saying that. /em wispers level your sub. lol but other that that i can feel your pain and mostly all rdm are for is to debuff cure and MB.

Every jobclass has roles in a PT. Debuffing, curing, and MBing are all crucial to success in PT battles, IMO.

But the story is that being a WHM/BLM or a BLM/WHM after being a RDM for so long is so booooooooorrrriiing!!!!!!!! (thats in another thread, i wont get into it here.)



Ah well. I suppose he'll change when all the mages in the linkshell will refuse to pl him.
