I am in a somewhat similar dilemma... RDM55/BLM27 and all I still have is my Warlock's Boots e.e; Granted, I have my Garlaige Coffer Key and my Oztroja Coffer Key already, and I'm trying to get my coffer over with in Oztroja (if it weren't for all those @#$% THFs there camping the coffers for Astral Rings, it'd undoubtedly be the easiest AF for me to hunt coffer for, since all you need is Invisible). I spent around five to six hours in an eight-person alliance, losing two lots and finally winning the last key.

    How long should I expect it to take to get my Tabard? Yeah, I don't get to equip it until 58.. but it'll only give me an incentive to grind more EXP just to equip it >< Also, any strategies on Garlaige Citadel coffer? Getting four WHM/RDM25+ is a chore in itself ; ; Gloves I believe I can wait on for a while (by that time, more people in the 50s = more chances for Eldieme key party)... but must get them before Chapeau ; ;

for the oztroja coffer, there's two ways you can go about getting it. either compete with other thieves for the coffer by running about from spawn to spawn, hoping you reach it before they do, or simply pick one spot and camp it. both work fine...but these thieves probably know the spawn points by heart and have a very good idea of spawn times, etc. it might be difficult to beat them. the easiest way though, is to just find one spawn point and camp it. if you're lucky, the coffer will appear after a while and voila.

also, i find that some (not all) thieves in oztroja will be willing to give up a coffer if you tell them its for an AF quest.

I've never been so angry at this game.

Spent around four hours camping that goddamned Castle Oztroja for the coffer... spent two hours solely camping the top part, and then other two running in circuits around the coffer spawn points. Made a note of it to put that I was looking for a coffer for my AF Tabard, and some "witty" Mithra THF decided to put in her search comments:

yeah i'm here to turn your AF
        coffers into Mimics and useless
        Goldsmithing materials

Around three hours into the camping, I ran down to check the lower level spawns, only to find nothing. As I ran back to the top, I see a Mimic in the leech pool, and the Mithra THF getting owned. She died. w00t. But my Warlock's Tabard went to died.

I just PASSED that area maybe a minute ago... why does my luck bite so much? After that encounter, I kinda lost it, and fell into absentminded slump... Didn't help that right before I logged off, I wanted to check the altar room one last time (usually cast Stoneskin, jam X button to get through event), but right when I was hitting "Yes" to light the torch, friggin' Yagudo decides that that's the best time to turn around. Had no choice but to Chainspell+Warp. I think I escaped with like 440HP out of a possible 817.

Mark my words Castle Oztroja, I will get my friggin' Tabard.

Here's a tip on where to camp in eldieme. In the bottom floor K-8, there's a tunnel that leads to a dead end in L-9. Camp in the middle of that tunnel. There's only 3-4 skellies in the north side which will NOT aggro on yellow life unless they start moving close to you (only around 2 will walk around the tunnel). Semi-safest. While waiting for respawn, you can kill the spriggans on the other side.

Oztroja. I camped the hidden room for 8 hours. If you want it badly...you just have to wait for it to spawn there. Spawn rate is I believe 1/7 and spawn timer is 30-1 hr (is this correct?) so in 7 hours you should get on. Yes it's boring but tough it out if u want your armour badly.

 I went to Eld. Necro with my LS for a coffer run that they do, cause the LS is turning into a HNM LS so getting AF is important, well we got to Eld and then no one has a map, and no one knows how to open the doors, after we finally run into a lvl 75 pld who said he would help, we get to this lower floor and camp at this ledge from then on it turned into seer hell he pulls a Warrior Skeleton (forgot the exact name) then we get a link below cause someone went to close to the ledge after that we ended up killing everything on the bottom and killing 2 mage types all at the same time... ending result we were all slaughtered except the pld who had a earth staff and the skill Spirit Taker which was nice and saved his ass at the end of the day we got not 1 key drop.
People look at the world and think why, i look at the world and think why not.

              a lucky rdm am i

Well I decided to put my AF craving on hold until I've leveled up a bit more (55 or so). Then I got lucky. I was on late Friday night, an exp pt was just winding down when a friend of mine (lvl 70 blm, speaks JP) tells me that there's a JP skillup party forming for Castle Oz. We join and choco out there. Wow, what fun! Only 1 other person needed the key, and within an hour we both had ours. I stuck around until about 5 AM skilling up sword and dark magic and scored about 35k in scrolls. ^^ It was so fun just to see the 70+ blms skilling up scythes, and all the random spellcasting, and it was hilarious to see a chain 5 for 3 exp, lol.

I never got my AF1 yet mainly due to lack of help. But now that i hit 52 I want my AF2 boots so now I need my AF1. I have trouble finding help like everyone else and I also offered my help to anyone in my LS that needs it. Tho most of my LS is lower lvled as well. About 2 people is higher than me being a 55 whm and a 57 or 58 DRK. Ive asked the DRK but he keeps saying no. So now I need help killing that Orc.. Any idea of what lvl of people I need for a party to kill the orc?

Luckily I already have a Nest key and velvet cloth so Im ready for AF2. I also got lucky with the citadel coffer key. A few BSTs were camping in front of my party and I started talking to them also giving them Protect III and a few cures through out the night. Being a BST myself I was just chatting away and a few hours later they /say Anyone need a coffer key. So immediately i said yes i do for my AF along with about 10 people lol. They said I could have it immedately which just made me . Thanks to Kittyzilla and danno from Bahamut! If i ever catch up to u guys lets trio BSTs.!!

I ended up getting the castle key during a rank 5 run which i put away in my storage but i checked today and its a treasure key.. not a coffer. So i think thats gonna be a problem. No Necro key coffer key either... just another necro treasure key.

I had help from a high level PLD in my LS called Flic (great guy ^^) to get my AF1, we killed the NM in Davoi pretty easily, but the storage hole was a bit more difficult. It was in an area with tents and those lizards and orcs that would still aggro me. I went in with sneak & invis and got it, invis dropped and I was attacked. Flic totally saved my arse and took all the hate while I warped out, then he used an Instant Warp and got out alright.

While skilling up in Garlaige Citadel trying to get another RDM his coffer key I got mine.

Just last night we went to Eldieme Necropolis and got my coffer key in about 40 minutes, and the Treasure Coffer spawned right next to me minutes after I got the key.

I consider myself very lucky. ^^

WOW old topic revival. LOL, I was probably level 30 when this topic started...

                    Anyway, heres my AF stories...

AF1 (Degen) got a few from my linkshell (since dissolved) to help me. 60 DRG basically soloed the mob with me throwing him a few cures. Finding the storage hole was a pain. It's first spawn point was on the middle island only accessed through Monastic Cavern. Finally found it amongst some level 45'ish orcs. Got it, warped, done.

Shortly after this, the leader of the linkshell quit, and I was on my own... one of the members (60 SAM) invited me to his. That SAM has since quit and I found a new linkshell with people my level.

AF2 (Boots) Got a treasure key from experience PT's in Crawlers. Finding the chest proved to be very annoying. People exp there kept using the keys they were getting to open chests.. My only hope was that it spawned in the area that no one goes in parties. And it did.... 2 down, 4 to go...

AF Gloves: Man this one stressed me out. I ended up getting them at lvl 55 which is earlier than a lot of RDM, but it was hard... no one wants to go to Eldieme unless they have to. I lucked out one Saturday when I saw a shout in Lower Jeuno, and it was on a full moon ^^ We had 2 keys drop on first 4 mobs, but I lotted horribly. In total 6 people needed key, so my odds were bad. About an hour later another dropped, and I lost. About an hour later another one... I waited till all had lotted, looked up and hit the button... yay, highest lot, key was mine. Chest wasnt too hard, just need help opening doors. Had my gloves the next day after getting invited to a dark spark group.

AF coffer- Garlaige (legs). Easiest coffer pt, turned out to be easiest coffer. I think I didn't realize how hard this was at the time, but I know now. My new linkshell helped me here, and we got the keys pretty easily. Apparently the coffer is very hard to find, although my LS helped me then and there, so we found it just behind gate #3. I died getting it when my sneak fell off, but it was worth it.

AF coffer Oztroja (body) This was the hardest for me. It was annoying as hell. First, I couldn't get a coffer pt to save my life. Eventually I joined some skill up parties and after 3 nights of going there, I got a key. Note that I only actually got a key when there was no one left needing it but me, so it was mine anyway. That's how bad my luck was. Then, the chest... oh man, was this a downer. The night I got the key, I camped the statue room until 5am waiting for the stupid thing to spawn there, which it never did. One guy would log in and out looking for it, and I would see the occasional THF run in to check. I gave up and went back the next day with a friend who camped the statue room for me while I ran around the other spawn points. I found it after about 30 mins of running around at the very southern point and no one was around. 5/6 done, only one more to stress about.

AF3 (hat) Pretty simple really, shout in Jeuno by a JP rdm, that could speak some English. Sent him a tell saying i needed quest too. He allowed me to join and started getting some members together. The core of the PT was only 6 of us. 8 went to fight miser murphy but were really not needed. There was me (60 rdm), him (58 rdm), 71 WHM, 61 WAR/NIN, 60 BLM/WHM, and the key member, anon NIN/WAR (not sure what lvl, but at least 70 I'm guessing. For the Murphy fight we also had a 63 THF and 65 WHM but they both left after that, leaving just the 6 of us to fight Guardian Statue. I thought we were screwed, but with the NIN tank, no one even really got hit. It was a joke, and a far cry from the "recommended" parties that most websites list.

The cutscene when you enter North San d'Oria to get your hat kicked ass, and was well worth the effort.

Overall the AF quests were a pain, and very stressful, but you feel a sense of accomplishment when you complete it.

woooot I got a few friend together last night for AF1. A 55 NIN friend pretty much soloed the orc. We got separated and I was following another friend but we went the opposite way.. then I hear hes fighting this thing and hes like uh oh.. so we run there as fast as possible. Another 52 RDM friend was closer so he got there probably during the middle of the fight so he chainspelled and went nuts on the orc. My 65 RDM friend and I finally got there towards the end of the fight. I had enough time to get in a Fire II, Aero II and a few swings before it was dead. That was pretty funny and awesome! We couldnt find a storage hole tho and it was 6am so I logged. I ended up finding one the next day as soon as I logged on.

Now AF2 time! i got everything i need now just need to goto the Nest and find the chest. Question.... can i open the chest with another job and get the blood? Mainly because I can solo my BST there and its much safer to run around all that aggro as the BST. Aggro = charm + release or just Tame and no more aggro. I opened the AF1 chest for my BST while I was in my RDM and that was fine as long as I had the quest opened by the BST. Anyone have any ideas?

                        >.< Well last night I went with my LS to Citadel for coffer/lb1 stuff. Got the lb1 taken care of, then headed for gate #3 to try for my coffer. We had about 8 people, got there and found another party waiting at the door. As we're stepping on switches one of the other party's members dies. We raise him, losing invis and getting aggro. Deal with the aggro and we're ready to open the door. Only thing is, the other party is standing at the door waiting for us to open it. A fight breaks out and I'm trying to get the other group to work with us. 2 from each group to open the door. They refuse, the procede to aggro and train on us everything in the area - grease, bats, pots, etc. They're calling for help and trying to keep us away from the door. It was the absolute worst case of player selfishness and backstabbing I have ever seen . We finally get the door open, and I run in along with the ranger from the other party. He dies (he didnt have sneak on) but I manage to fall down a cliff before finding the chest. No one in our group found the coffer, but I don't think the other party did either -- they seemed to be too busy dying.

Sometimes NA players make me so mad. I knew the other party leader, he's been on my friends list for ages. But when the chips are down it goes right out the window and he turned out to be a selfish ****ard. I was talking to a JP friend and he told me that had it been a JP party, we would have teamed up and rolled to see who got to open the chest. (This was, incidentally, the first thing I suggested to the other party.)

                        /rant

Anyway, point is this: when you go for the citadel coffer, make it a party of 4 and make sure everyone has sneak oils and invis powders. And be ready to deal with jerks like the ones I mentioned above.

The 3rd gate is a nasty spot to get aggro. We got aggro there (4 of us, all lvl 61 RDM, WHM, PLD, RNG) and had to fight off 2 Chamber beetles, Funel bats, a Fallen something, and a Grease thingy. I came close to dying, but we all pulled through... didnt find the coffer though... only reason we got aggro was the lazy ranger made a run for the gate with sneak wearing after we opened it. Yes, you need to hurry, but not if youre gonna die.

I hated that hell hole. I died about 5 times during the course of trying to get my coffer...3 of those deaths were when I died near some JP's...and they were kind enough to not only raise my stupid ass, but also to help me re-open the gate. I had 4 NA players run past me (1 rdm in AF, 1 blm in AF, 2 whms in AF), all refused to raise me, they just kept on running. Sucks sometimes, but other times I've had JP's refuse to raise me, and NA's run all the way over through many zones just to raise me. It's more on an individual level than anything else.

Meh...I really wish the auto-translator was better than it is. If it could do *something* about bringing down the language barrier some, the two sides would find that they are a lot more similiar than they are different. Oh well though. I for one am trying to learn japanese...maybe then I could be 1/8th as cool as apple pie
