I nuked a lot out of MB at 40.

At 41, I only nuke for MB, if even then.

Melees have a tendency to do the chain while I'm casting refresh, and an upset whm is MUCH harder on the ears than an upset melee.

Otherwise I nuke when I can afford the MP, which is very, very seldom.

I nuked some around 38+ because of me being Taru and have some INT+ equips my dmg was not so bad and there were moment when i was "bored" in fight. and had a good amount of Mp. Right now i mostly only nuke to MB (if i can - most of the time i need to cast refresh at this moment ) and don't really use dmg spells normally. Still somehow i find myself more of a nuker than a healer, most of my last PT's had a good whm or PLD and i didn't really cure much o0

I usually nuke on MBs, and to finish off some mobs last HPs. I usually am grouped with a blm, although there are times when the blm are resting, mob's hp is near dead but melees seems to miss alot at the end (not to mention when mob hp is below 25% they will save TP for the next one) this is when I cast my nukes in order to finish them quickly.

Other cases where you have a brd and rdm in the party (VERY RARE FOR ME!) then I nuke away acordingly. Of course there are those damn magic pots who seems to resist every sort of nukes... even silence /sigh.

From 26th through about 40th I nuked regularly, in fact it was my primary source of damage in group because things are very vulnerable to your most powerful Nukes at those levels.

And it far outdid the melee damage I was capable of. Literally at those levels you could find yourself in either the shoes of a Whm or a Blm. Capable of filing in for either. The damage from Nuking was noticable and had serious contribution to a party...

          However... post 40th...

Refreshing became the order of the day, and though I could toss in a nuke on occasion outside MB, overall I had to save my mana for the most important Red Mage duty of Refreshing. At 48th with the introduction of Haste, my job got even busier as Now I was hasting and refreshing the party as well as my normal string of enfeebles. And though I could toss in a nuke outside that, most things were just too important.

At about that point both melee and Nuking became irrelevent to my existence as a Red Mage even though my nukes these days seriously powered up.

On a Magic Burst if the Target is Burned first (Blm Enfeeble) I can do up to 320 on an MB with Blizzard II, 240 damage outside the burst... so it is obviously pretty damaging.

However, none of that holds more importance than just keeping that refresh cycle up.

So Yes, you can nuke outside MB... but... be very careful when doing it post 40th.

I got a secret that I should tell you guys post lvl 55...whenever my static is done xping and we pull our last mandry/crab in boyahda...I go all out and cast stoneskin/blink and let out my chainspell and cast Blizzard II non stop...then convert then cast it again.

All in all I probably reduced the enemy by half of its HP. It's not the most ideal way of nuking but I love it when my static members are impressed w/ the same spell dealing 240ish damage per blast.

Anyway, as the main healer of my group, I never join in MBs ever since Cure III and IV became the norm in boyahda :dead: . The paladin really never have any trouble holding aggro but it takes a lot of mp to casts those. But I do tend to cast nukes though on occassions when enemies have a really high def. To a crab my Blizzard II alone deals around 240+ dmg. Although, I never join in Mbs in those situations either since I'm too busy and too cautious that the enemy mite do a constant crit. on the pally (it happens occassionally) if I don't keep my eye on their HP bar. That's right...I can't multitask
