Is muskatre gun used until hellfire?

Musketeer's gun +1 is pretty good. Most of the guns damage comes from bullets, not the actual gun itself. I believe there's a better one at lvl 65+ but i'm not sure as i don't use guns much myself.

Is the cost of using guns really so high that it would over shadow their dmg capabilities or is it just a combo of the dmg not being that much better and the accuracy being horrendously worse?

i did a raw damage calculation and it happens that bullets do 7 points more damage than what I have right now... There could be other factors but my marksman isn't high enough to use guns in an exp party so i really wouldn't 'know.

Sorry, I must politely disaggree.

Each stack of silver bullet is 9-10k. If you are only doing 100 dmg on your mog, why are you even using a gun? Scorpion arrows and War+1 can give you 100 dmg too, and that's way cheaper.

I am currently using a Muskeet Gun +1 and Silver bullet, and I do 125-150 a shot. If I have a bard with me, I could do 150-175 a shot . Now that's amazing dmg!

My highest Slug Shot with a bard was 1500 on a IT mob

I don't use my gun all the time. I pull too much hate doing that anyway. I always try to carry 2 stack of silver bullets on me. I usually use less than 1 stack of bullets during 1 leveling session.

I can't express how important crossbow is for a ranger. I currently use more crossbolt than arrows. Because I like the status effects. Get your self a good crossbolt for your level, and start the fight with a acid bolts, venom bolts, and then change to holy bolts for regular shot. Use darksteel bolt for your slug shot and barrage. Holy bolts is so underrated, I get about 70-90 per shot on them, and it usually comes with a additionaly effect of 10-40 dmg

I took a whole day of helping out genkai 1 and beadeaux coffer key to level my marksmanship to on par with my archery skills. It was long and painful, but it was worth it.

Acid, Holy, and Darksteel bolts for the skillchain are pretty nice.

After using Heavy Crossbow +1 from 60-63, I came to the conclusion that using crossbow with status bolts (including +10% melee damage from acid bolts) comes to approximately the same damage as war bow and scorps.

But now struggling with skillchain accuracy (62-63) on toramas, I decided I really needed any accuracy I could get. So I decided to go back to good old scorps and demons.

edit: oops, forgot to mention that (strictly IMO) I don't believe using guns full-time is worth the added cost. I think its more personal preference and whether or not you have gil coming from funny places.

Cessaro, I am just curious. How are you surprised by my dmg? Are my dmg lower than expected, or higher than expected.... I always want to know what's other ranger dmg is compared to mine?

I sub Ninja for my ranger most of the time.

Unless you are fighting Flies and doing 150~ DMG per bullet, you were either A) shooting VT mobs that are debuffed or B) exaggerating.


With RNG/WAR I could MAYBE consistantly hit 150DMG per bullet with zerk and atk+ trait. As a RNG/NIN you'd probably need pretty special conditions to do so.

Earth, not surprised more or less, I just wanted to know what you have subbed to compare my own damage.

These are my general numbers from last night, at 64, fighting processionaires (without BRD, eating mithkas, maxed @219).

War bow+1:
Scorpion Arrows
Normal: ~120dmg, Berserk: ~140ish

Demon Arrows
Normal: 140dmg, Berserk: 165-170dmg
Sidewinder: 950-1100

well, my x-bow skills is actually pretty close to my bow's... maybe off by 6-7 levels but not that much differen I think....

I never used guns extensively. I used my friend's bandit gun before but it didn't do good enough damage that i said "wow, i want to use that in a party!"
