Re: 50-100 damage light blade and other funny things

So, seeing screen caps like that makes me proud to have a certain strive to quit leveling a job after a certain level, but it makes me sad that people still want to impose a certain kind of conformity to the entire game.

Just remember, if they have or claim to have a level 75 job...they must be right and you must be wrong.

Conversely, if you do not have a maxed out job everything you say is wrong.

You can't be a paladin past level 65 and think, "Hey, do I need to stack on more defense and vitality?" At that point it should be obvious that it's starting to do very little.

The funny thing is that I am L75 but since I'm not decked out in HNM gear and I don't have 3 other jobs at 75 I'm automatically wrong and need to stfu and do as I'm told.

Well, it *might* be possible to block it down to 100 (assuming it's blockable; I've seen it hit BLMs a lot harder than PLDs so I think it *is* physical). But I kinda doubt it. Certainly the difference between adaman cuirass set and koenig isn't nearly big enough to produce that much damage difference.

Most endgame tanking is not about your gear or food, but about knowing what you're doing. Gear helps, of course, but one person's gear is rarely decisive even to a tough 6-man fight, let alone alliance or bigger content. (I say rarely and not never because every so often your shadow mantle procs on Proto-Omega's Colossal Blow that would have done 1100, or something like that, which can be pretty damn decisive. But that's like 1 in 100 fights.)

I'd hate to be a mage in his party, though. I'll bet he doesn't know how Great Wheel works or how to deal with it, which is a much bigger problem than what kind of food you're eating. That's the really different thing about HNM tanking - you can't tank every fight like it's the same anymore. You really have to know the fight and the enemy.

If he's lucky there'll at least be someone along who understands the importance of dispel in ZM8...

Oh well, at least he wasn't pushing you to get +HP stuff.
