PLD vs DRK (help ><)

well im pretty new n im about to get my pld job but my friend (who is a DRK) says that plds r no good n he will PWnD / owned / other stuff my pld >< n i wana know if its true or what gear would i need to beat DRK soo guys i need ur help btw i am a noob this is my 3rd week:sweat:

Well sinjii, it depends on how you like to play. As a WAR so far, do you enjoy being in front of the mob, getting your face handed to you? Or did you prefer it when you were not so in front of it, being able to dish out damage?

Before I get into it, ignore your asshat friend, and realize that while FFXI has player-vs-player events, it is by no means the objective of the game. So next time he tells you how much pwnage he's gonna serve to you, remind him that you need to join groups and get exp to be high enough to do anything like that.

Essentially, PLD and DRK can be seen as two sides of the same coin: They are specific jobs, that use magic as bonuses. Its great if you want to be a damage dealer or tank, and get some magic abilities that can boost your effectiveness. I think PLD and DRK are two jobs that S-E made to perfectly complement each other, because one is a straight-forward tank and one is a straight-forward and ideal Damage Dealer.

No one, i repeat, NO ONE, is going to invite a PLD to heal, like they would a WHM, or a DRK to nuke, like they would a BLM. Like I said, specific.

So, figure out how you like playing, then get an advanced job accordingly. Of course, you can simply switch to the other if you dont like it. You have only been playing for three weeks, so dont be afraid to experiment.

Drk pwned pld..? Without Pld on their side, Drks will get chewed alive. They serve different purpose really. PLD is to tank, DRK is to LFG... oops, I mean to deal damage.

DRKs and MNKs are mean't to tank. PLD's are meant to sub WHM to heal the DRK and MNK because no matter how hard he trys, the Paladin is not going to hold hate :x. Least thats what some people I know lead me to belive!

If you choose to get all the way to level 75, you'll be the one laughing. DRK is of limited utility for really big fights beyond Stun or on some occasions skillchaining, while PLD is almost always useful.

wow i didnt even think ppl would say anything here the replys came really quickly thank u. btw i like tank cuz well plds r really good at that i must say i do get scared if my WHM isnt good cuz ill die >< but over all i like tank n plus the pld gets to heal himself n come on he does look awesome in his AF armor set.

I disagree, my LS uses DRKs, and other melees against pretty much every HNM there is... still waiting to see how much a Berserk..other stuff..Sneak Attack Spiral Hell at 300 TP will do to Tiamat(Our DRK who has a crapload of +scythe +str merits etc... hasn't shown up to a Tiamat yet as a DRK)... Monk did a Dragon Kick for 1333. DRK is always useful.. just some people fail to realize this. Hell, weve had more then one DRK meleeing Fafnir/Nidhogg at the same time.

I didn't say DRKs were useless Vinen. Just that they're useful in fewer circumstances and less quantity than Paladins are, which is simple, unadorned truth. 1-2 DRK is more than enough for most HNMLS, but you could certainly find uses for more than 2 PLDs.

Dont worry too much about Ballista until you have your AF. And that normally means lvl 60. The thing about lower-level Ballistas is that not too many ppl in that lvl range are interested in PvP, nor have taken the time to get Ballista Access. Likewise, Higher Level players do not go to those ballistas due to the work they'll have to do as far as changing gear and macros and such.

So dont sweat it, keep on lvling PLD ^^.
