I got my Rdm to 65 in 1 month but it was during my school holiday and I had no jobs so...

As far as redmage goes, you have to look a little deeper into their primary roles in differeint situation.

EXP party, which you will be spending a LOT of your time in...
We ARE primary refresher, haster and debuffer. We are secondary healer. Next we are occasionally nuker to help boost the MB from time to time or help finish up the mob. But lastly and probably the most mistaken... we are NOT an attacker who use sword.

Out side of EXP party, your role is very versatile. You can be anything. You can do the same thing you did in EXP party, or you can even become the main tank. This is where you get to use your sword. And it's decent.

So, if you're looking to *always* stay up front and swing your sword at the enemies, Rdm isn't exactly the right job for you. In EXP party at least. You have to fulfill the main roles I listed above. And if done right, you can attack with your sword on top of all the other tasks you need to do. Learning to do it appropriately and efficiently tho is one challenge that many Rdms have failed. Partially it's because of their attitude... they just don't see themselves as mages and play like warriors.

when i meant i wanna go up to an enemy and be like wabap you're dead i don't mean exp or solo,
i mean like a mob 5 levels below me or something when i'm traveling through an area
1 handed sword (PLD's main weapon) doesn't really get much in the way of great weapon skills until Vorpal Blade (which you'll get at Lv60). Until then, you probably won't be able to one-hit-kill all but the most weakest farming mobs with a weapon skill.

Vorpal Blade changes all that though, and does give you one-hit-kill ability vs. many farming mobs.

Not as familiar with greatsword weapon skills, but they don't seem all that spectacular either until you get to Sickle Moon (I believe PLD will get this at Lv62).

Figured I would lay out my 2 cents as well. Because I have my BLM to 40 also, I know the pros and cons to both jobs.

Paladin is VERY VERY fun, I love it. I love to tank, its just really awesome to have the feeling. Your party NEEDS you, if you mess up... Your whole party will be dead. Its a big responsibility.

And the damage isnt bad on {Too weak} mobs. I take my Paladin to places all the time to explore and never really have problems with anything.

Looking for Group. Hmmm... Its wierd, some days I'll be seeking for hours, nothing. And then other days, as SOON as I log in, I get 3 invites. Its just strange like that. Everyone needs a tank. And IMO, Paladin is better tank than a NIN because Paladins have better hate mitigation. As a lvl 63 Paladin, I have Cure IV, Shield Bash, Defender, Sentinal, Rampart, Holy, Banish.

Those can all be used to snag hate when your ranger gets crazy with the gun. And if that fails, you always have Cover. So, it should always be alright.

I may be a bit biased, because my main is Paladin, but again, IMO, best job. It's just tons of fun, hope this helped.

most (maybe all even) 1-handed weapons will not be 1 hit kills on something 5 levels lower. if you want something of that much power, and can get invites immediately, I'd say play RNG. course you'll be burning through your gil like a madman...

          Thanks Yyg!

Soloing is a bit hard, but, just weapons? Paladin fights better than any mage.

But truthfully... I almost got it handed to me by an {Easy Prey} Walking Tree(the big ones) In Lufaise Meadows.

So, an easy prey is i woul gues somewhere around 5 lvls below, I took it, but I could have died, i was out of MP, and had my button on the Invincible Macro, but Vorpal Blade saved my ass.

Paladin is good, but it really doesnt get easy to tank until u get to 37(flash). Its fun.

Be whatever job you want, just learn to make your own PT's. Don't be lazy

And LOL @ anyone who doesn't raise an eyebrow to a rank 1 level 30 or higher... Anyone who hasn't taken the time to raise rank AT LEAST to rank 2 (which can be soloed) doesn't take the game seriously. And DO I want someone who doesnt take the game seriously in EXP? ( No Thanks )

Of course, there will be times where the said Rank 1 Lv60 PLD just changed nations, but you really can't blame when people look at Rank as a measure of someone's skill through the /sea function. I mean, wouldn't you at least raise an eyebrow if you see a Lv65 BLM that's still Rank 2? Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps, but rank doesn't always mean they're a bad player. Think about a high ranking player gets helped by a ton of his friends while that lower rank is either 1. concentrating on leveling so he can do it later, and 2. doesn't have enough friends to take him to rank 10. While I agree with Raven on seeing people to be at least rank 2, we also have to consider people changing allegiances (sp?). But of course, to be part of an HNMLS, you at least have to get to rank 6.

P.S. Oops almost forgot, um, Blue, if you want to be a pld, you have to consider, once you get to 37 upwards, you're competing againts NIN's. So if you think you're LFP'ing for hours is long as a BLM, wait til you start seeing your competition as a tank get bigger. I am at this point now. Getting dumped for a NIN hurts, but what can you do. Faster fights, no MP drained for Mages, faster kills, more chains, and guess what, NIN can do damage, way better than PLD's could. And they can freaking MB too. So that gains more hate for them. So if you want to tank and be able to solo and crap like that, turn into a NIN. If you want plate armor, and still be able to tank, go PLD. If you want to be able to do damage, be able to wear plate armor, and can also tank, be a WAR. Other than that, your best bet if you hate LFP'ing is BLM.

well it really sticks out. Rank2 I can understand since you need some help to take the dragon. But rank 1 really is no excuse. When I search for PT members above level 20, rank 1 players really stick out and it gives me impression that they are gilsellers just trying to level up. They *may* not be that bad but the impression is always bad to begin with.

Errr do you really wanna party with someone who doesn't even have an airship pass yet? A while back, we were gonna exp in KRT and take airship to san'doria. We kinda just assumed everyone was rank 5... we went to boyahda.

Does that have to be relivant?? Everyone ports anywhere. If you want KRT yes, while I do understand the point of going to San d'Oria instead since it's closer, does that stop you guys from porting that dude to La Thiene?? Oh waste of time?? Or just being lazy??

Yes Jei, though it sticks out, you can't say that a player isn't capable just because his rank is 1. I met a rank 10 who's a fucking total n00b, does that make him a better player than me just cause he's rank 10?? Hell no. That's not justified. Also, airship pass, airship pass can be bought for 500k. That doesn't necesarrily mean you ahve to be rank 5.
