  • Jelly ring or vit ring?

Well after god knows how many hours of killing Mousse placeholders I finally got the Jelly ring over the weekend. ^^

I XP on Sunday at Kuftal on Cocktatrice and Tigers and I couldnt tell a difference between Jelly ring and VIT ring except on mob specials.

The chicken and purple kittens hit me for 80-105, some rare 120 hits with either ring. Jelly ring was only better on mob specials like Hammer Beak and Claw attack.
    What do you guys think?

If it helps with mob specials and the enemies you are fighting don't use magic I say Jelly. Congrats on getting it dude.

the difference between a vit+4 ring and a jelly ring in an XPPT vs normal mob attacks is negligible.

the strenght of the jelly ring, of course, is more evident as the damage increases rises, like u mentioned w/ hammer beak or w/e the tp moves they use on u.

      stick with the jelly

An hour and a half it was just RNG, WHM and me. The 3 of us were lvl 69, and it was slow killing. Then I had to leave for work, came back 5 hours later and a BLM lvl 73 joined us and killing the Mousse got rather easy.
After that, the NM spawned and hour later we engaged and it got nasty. A haunt aggroed, I am not kidding, from a mile away to my yellow HP. We didnt noticed at first because guess what, it aggroed and immediately started casting Ancient Magic (the thunder one) on my tawu bum. I somehow survived the spell, we then escaped, hauled ass back to town and luckily a lvl 74 PLD friend was in Sandy doing the Halloween thing. We got him mostly for Cover, because once the BLM MB on the Syrup you are not going to get hate back and you really need the MB.
So we went back to camp, cleared the bats so the mages could rest just in case, buffed up and smacked the NM. I think the whole Halloween event helped, as we were pretty much the only ones in the dungeon.

My advice is bring as many BLM as you can, if you can only get one get at least get another PLD to help you cover. Magic attacks get stronger vs Jellies, the MB will do from 1.8k to 2.5k in dmg depending on the lvl of the BLM and what -ga spell he/she uses. Add to that the other strong nukes before the MB and the NM will be stuck on the BLM. Myself and the other PLD burned all our JA's after the MB including Invincible and the NM wouldnt have it.

I hardly ever see Paladins level 65-75 with Jelly Ring equipped while EXPing but I don't know, if it seems to help then why not? ^^

We killed the Syroup for our static pld, with the following setup:
                PLD 70
                WHM 70
                RDM 70

Lol, I was completely joking as evidenced by the wining face and tongue sticking out face. It's a nice item, but I've only seen it like twice both on NewCompany members.

General rule of thumb with vit is

-1 damage per point of vit.

there's probably a limit to how much it can reduce damage by tho (caps at -24? something like that)

so... if mobs are hitting you for over 100, jelly ring is good.

if not, then vit ring is better (topaz ring that is).

For exp PTs... that generally means vit rings are better.

Because of the way that Damage Reduction works, every point of it is better than the previous point. Here is an example:

Say some Character A has 98% dmg reduction and some Character B has 0% dmg reduction.

So A is taking 2% of the dmg.
                            B is taking 100%.

They both obtain some item that gives 1% dmg reduction.
So now A is taking 1% of the dmg.
                            B is taking 99%.

The same item in Character A has essentially reduced the amount of dmg he/she takes by 50%!!! (2% -> 1%) where as in Character B it has only reduced the dmg by 1% (100% -> 99%).

This is the reason many other games like Warcraft 3 have a reducing value for armor; so that every point effectively is equal to the previous point. My main point with this is that you won't feel the Dmg Reduction really well unless you wield the Earth Staff too. But I still feel the Jelly Ring is better than +4 Vit Ring regardless.

I prefered the Jelly Ring over the Vit ring for an additional reason. The Jelly Ring's dmg reduction affects everything (WS and Regular Attacks) whereas the VIT is sometimes ignored in many Creature WSes. An easy example is a Cactaur doing 1000 needles.

I leveled to 75 using Jelly Ring and Mermaid Ring.

This is easy to figure out. Does the monster hit you for more than 80 damage on average? If so, use jelly ring. If not, use topaz ring.

                              VIT + 4 = -4 damage per hit.
Jelly ring = -5% damage per hit.
                              4/0.05 = 80
So that would be the fine line when comparing these two rings. If you have a vit+5 ring, increase that number to 100.

If you wear a Jelly ring, is 1000 needles damage reduced? I usually wear a jelly ring when just messing around, and I thought I recall a 1000 needles doing the full 1000 damage. I figure that any damage that isn't decreased by VIT wouldn't be decreased by jelly either.
I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.
