  • How well will PLD's be able to hold aggro after the patch?

After the upcoming patch they're going to get rid of yokodama, so just how well will PLD's be able to hold aggro in groups now? With our low damage we can't rely on that for aggro, can't use mana forever since we can't always rest... so less aggro from heal spells.. So how will the pld's be able to hold the mob on them when this feature gets removed? A couple of spells from the BLM or a few hits from a DRK would make the critter start chasing them around instead of us.

I also hear that later on (50+) groups don't want a PLD in their groups anymore because of their low damage. Something about how JP people only use PLDs for NM, burning circle stuff but not in groups. Since they want to kill things fast and can't get that done with the low damage of a PLD in their group. I just want to know if that's false or not. Would be bad to find out I can't get groups anymore because I don't do enough damage.

Don't know many people in the game that can answer questions like this, and the american players are still to new to the game to help out either =o So lots of stuff we still need to find out.
If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for the enemy no not see you. Then yes, Mr. Braveman, I guess I'm a coward

I'm getting FFXI at Christmas...so go into more detail about what that means. I know Paladins key job is to hold agro....and I would like to know where this would put them..

Pld can hold agro well if U sub a war for provoke. The 2 best tank, Pld and Nin, does little dmg. Nin might do even lesser due to the fact that they need to keep on casting their Blink Ninjetsu to be able to tank, thus leaving little time for attacks. That leaves the war as the only tank which can does decent dmg. however the War isnt as good a tank as a Nin or Pld, so i think PTs will wanna hv at least a Pld or Nin as main tank, so no worries

I'm in my 50s and i'm still getting invites all over vanadiel. Though not as much as i usually do but hey I'm getting the invites. For the upcoming patch, It's really not a very big deal i guess because i had parties where we don't have a thief and I still get the the enemy. Just keep healing and use Shield bash and Sentinel (alternate battles if possible). As long as you know your stuff thief or without thief you will get the job done. If you feel that you're relying on the Thief too much theres still time to practice.

There would be times where you've done everything you can to get the enemy back to you but just really can't. One of the resons why i hate Dark knights and Monks - they just hit damn too strong  One of the main reasons why i'm levelling up my 2h sword. I'd use it just to get the enemy's attention back to me then get go back to my 1h sword. Damage may not be as good as the hitters but hey, it's close. Put yourself in the enemy's shoes. Who would you rather kill first, the guy who nudges you or the guy who's whacking your head with a 2x4? What if you're being whacked in the body with a whip instead of just nudging you, who would you kill first? Besides, hey you could also use it when youre doing BCNMs for quicker fights.

Yea.. I first heard from someone the other night in my PT in CN that they were getting rid of Yokodama... which in a sense is pretty stupid. Though I had been in enough PTs with no THF to learn to keep agro the entire time, it was nice to have that as a backup so I could conserve MP and JAs until they were needed later on..

              Dragoons?

Wouldn't Dragoons be the replacement for theifs for their jump abilities to keep hate to plds? Or am I wrong?

                You're wrong.
DRG jump ability does NOTHING to hate for the team except it reduces/resets hate for the DRG himself.

This doesn't help the PLD keep aggro from nuking BLMs and rampaging DRKs, SAMs, and RNGs.

                    >.> I resent that.

..And don't forget DRGs do major dmg too.. I can hit for as much or more than some of the DRKs I've PTed with.

it'll simply make the way pld works back to old days...

yokodama is rather new technique, and back when the lvl cap was 60, nobody even considered using it in a party.

pld's task at that time was; 1. of course, tank, 2. but not get so much of hate, (nicely controlled, in other words) 3. so that other melee can take the mobs' target when and only when thf was to use fuidama from the back of pld.

doing this of course needs cooperation of other party members. for other melee, they have to use provoke first, so thf can fuidama from the back of pld at the start of the battle, and use provoke at somewhat constant pace to be able to take mobs' target when thf is to use another fuidama. for healers, they should allow pld to build some hate, but since pld can't build too much of it, they have to realize that pld can't use too much cure as compared to current tactics, and that they need to heal pld more often than they do now.

for pld's who never had to do this before, i think it takes some time to get used to this "old" way.

btw, don't forget that although sneak attack will have to be used from directly behind the mobs, the same isn't true for trick attack. as long as we use it from behind the tank, it still works no matter where the mobs' r facing. so yes, we can use it from behind of the tank, even if that means mob's actually facing towards u, thereby putting hate onto the tank, possibly of the strong ws like guillotine or kumei.

No they aren't.You can still do it,you just have to be directly behind the person,it was glitched before, allowing you to connect with it while standing beside another person.

Uh there will be no more yokodama. Yokodama is the glitched version. Fuidama will still exist. I believe you have your terms mixed up.

Yokodama = Using SA+TA, transferring hate to the tank who the monster is CURRENTLY facing
Fuidama = Using SA+TA, transferring hate to the tank who is BEHIND the monster.

Yokodama will not work after the patch due to the tweaking of Sneak Attack.
