Bad tank? Bad monk?

I agree... I use minimum skill, I don't lure...so no provoke... yet my hate is higher than tank... >_>;

Unless you didn't use those abilities right away (like as soon as the mob came to camp). Then you're totally exempt from the charges.

My berserk, boost came with WS, that's why I say 'Berserk, Boost, WS'... and even if I do single WS, I wait til 2nd provoke is done before using it...
My focus, I sometimes do before battle start(before the mob is back), and then, most of the time, I use in middle of the battle, because that's usually when focus is back.

Note: not like other monk, I don't use dodge, defender, counterstance, chi blast nor chakra....

Normaly most times my battle goes like this... (not braging about stealing hate from tanks because with all due respect I may have more hp but I take damage like a red mage without phanalax )

As soon as the monster's dead we were fighting I chakra if there is anything needed to be healed up.

Then I start my boost cycle for chi blast.

Boost till the monster is within sight. Berserk and Focus before I engage.

Chi Blast for usually 41-458 damage depending on how much of my boost cycle I get in. (I always confirm with the tank if it's ok for me to push chi blast to the high end portion of the damage, otherwise I'll just boost it 1/4th of the way. So I'll never do a 450 damage chi blast unless the tank gives me the ok on it.)

If The pld is having a lil trouble getting hate back and we have no ranger (since they need cover more then me) I ask for cover and put up defender to lower my damage for a small period of time long enough for the pld to get main argo again.

Weapon skill usually with the pld since thier the only ones willing to use a skill that links to Raging fists 90% of the time.

Again if I take argo this time with defender already down I cancel out berserk or ask for cover if I didn't prior to this.

Lastly if the monster is taking a lil long to die and everyone is whiffing I disengage Boost once and chi blast for about 80 damage.

So with that said I ask a quick question? The above poster why don't you use chi blast?

I already stole enough hate by using focus, berserk, boostx1 and WS? I don't think a non-tank should try to tank? O.o; Chi Blast isn't that great, unless I boost it up like 10 times before fight, but then I will gain a lot of hate.... so what's the need? we kill monster pretty fast still without me doing chi blast, just that it's me tanking rather than the PLD...

Problem with me tanking is, I chose stat>def.. so I am taking lots of damage, then the mages have to spam cure more than they do for PLD, and then the monster will have a high chance in going to our mages, which... isn't fun?

pre af chi blast isn't so desirable.. lucky to get 200 damage

I think my best chi blast is 273, pretty sure that was 11 or 12 boosts.

I rarely lose hate from a mob it can either be that a player in my party is doing a Cure IV or if a Ranger thats not gimped does a 1100 on a IT Crab in Kuftal . I sometimes used to lose hate in Crawlers Nest but it only be when they will do a Raging Fist and are buffed up. But I'll get the hate back in a couple of seconds with a Provoke > Flash and Just in case the PLD should figure who to Cover when needed. So basically monks job to deal as much dmg as possible to the mob while we have to take all the hits. Not all PLD's are perfect you know :sweat: .

Ah I see just read the poster's level sorry I'm a lil oblivious to things at times :sweat:

But no I never get mad at taking a couple hits hey I have defender and hp 99% of the time having argo for 3 seconds isn't going to kill me. Even if the monster uses it's strongest move during that period most plds, don't mind that I group with.

And even before af I was still doing chi blasts every lil bit of damage helps.

(Disclaimer) No where in this do I mention I'm trying to tank period because I'm not. My current def on the game with defender up is like 260 something I'm a far cry from a Pld. I'm just saying with 1393 hp it's hard to get mad about taking a couple hits, to make the death of the monster quicker if the pld doesn't mind me putting in extra effort.

Before AF gloves. I used to whine when I was the one left alive with full hp (because I didn't have a good enough chi blast to keep up to be 2nd to the tank to take hate long enough to keep everyone else alive when he goes down). Nothing like watching your entire group drop like flies, (while your two hour is down) because you are so far down on the hate ladder.
