Valkurm wasn't bad at all.. i quickly went though that zone which suprised me. But the second I hit jeuno I lvling came to a complete halt.

Already today I got a couple "mnks suck" reply's after asking groups if they were going to need a tank soon. Making a group for myself hasn't go to smooth considering there's not enough whm's to go around/ they are already taken/ or not logged.

As taru with +13 acc +4 attk +3 dex +11 str, and i always eat mithrakabob so thats another +5 str and 20% attk. It doesn't matter THE DRG/NIN still got picked over me!!

Im really hard trying to stick with this job cause it has been the most fun available job ive played so far, but I get tempted to just go back to whm/blm again every day

I rarely had a problem finding a pt in VK since alot of monks didn't have subbed war many where still getting sub job items. It's getting real hard for me in Qufim since people have picked a drk over me and I waited many hours looking for a pt . But I always try my best to get into pt putting how much DEX I have :sweat: and that I eat Mithkabobs It helps a bit.

Each level I get now, I seem to be waiting less for invites, and I'm slowly approaching the promised land of level 41.

At the moment I seem to out damage most DRGs I party with, and I'm just below DRKs, but they attack a hell of alot slower.

I'm also making it my personaly duty to show people (at least people in my level range and in the Crawlers Nest) that monks are great damage dealers as well as viable back up tanks. And seeing as I've partied with a good range of people in the nest now, I think the message slowly seems to be working.

i feel all your pain...my mnk is at 32 now...(been there for about 2 weeks now) and it seems like alll the NA players choose DRK or SAM over ma for a party. (sigh) i was out hunting for my RSE gear today with another 33 MNk and a 50 PAL. the pal boosted my spirits a little by comenting that having us there was like having 4 other dam dealers there me and the other mnk were hitting for the same as the pal WITH EACH HAND! that made me feel warm on the inside. Ive just been having a problem getting parties with NA players...it seems i get more invites at 3-4am when the Japanese players come on...which sucks cause by then ive been on for 12+ hours alerady and im going to bed soon but im gonna stick with it cause i saw a 74 MNK in full AF gear and i just drooled.

you know oddly enuff after ppl screaming it into the ears of the ppl that don't find monk worthwhile i really think it's changing...

or perhaps it's just that drk's my lvl range get invited so fast you never see them seeking and ppl realize that drg really sucks at my lvl range?

It seems this happens at every single level. Even at 54, I can't find a party unless I make one myself. I spent 6 hours seeking yesterday and got absolutely nowhere. When I searched for players in the 53-55 range, there were a a couple samurais and darkknights, but when I checked a few minutes later, they had all been grouped. I know I do more damage than the samurai. My one punch often hits harder than his swing. I also know I gain TP far faster than a darkknight, and raging fists beats anything that he has to offer.

However this proves that it's not just the Americans that are ignorant about monks. On Lakshmi most Americans are either under 30 or above 60. I should have been above 60 as well, but where's the love for the monk?

Okay, I have a few japanese friends, but how can I get the random japanese invite with my mnk? I don't want to flag J 'cause my comprehension of japanese is nearly nil... and then it has to be romanji... but it seems I almost never get an invite on mnk... i'll farm for five or six hours near a city so I can airship and whatnot... I do a full search comment too, looks like this:

STR+12 DEX+6 (Japanese)(I can speak a little.)

any pointers? aside from getting myself known via my mage jobs (i got quite a few invites as whm and blm going to 30... I figured the japanese I pt'd with as mages, would see me and pick me up since they're 30+ now... but nope)

I like MNK/WAR as 1 of the 3 melees in my PTs (other 2 are usually nin/war and thf/nin). MNK holds up much better than DRK as a melee to provoke off the THF pulling so the THF can trick attack onto the tank.
MNK damage is pretty good and not as streaky as a DRK from what I can tell, the MNK damn near soloed a knight crawler in boyhada last night with hundredfist
From a healers view, MNK are nice because they are low maintenence due to high hps and they aren't squishy like DRK which cause me to get too much hate because I need to use CureIV to save their lives 5 seconds into a fight :p.

As for MNK getting a PT, i'd say you have to make your own. I group at least once a week with a incredibly well equipped JP MNK thats rank10 and she starts her own pt or she ends up sitting around in jeuno for hours looking for PT too.

jus cause some DRKs are idiots that can't do their job worth a jack shit doesn't mean we all suck > I personally have rarely had someone capable of keeping up with my damage, and I don't pull hate (on purpose >_> one time I critted twice in a row at the start of the fight and the robber crab went on me for a while)

Well, wait for all the drk, drg and sam to run out. Then wait for all the war to run out. After that, wait for every other person at your level to be invited except you. At this time log out of for the night, go to sleep, and dream you were invited by an uber-party and made level 75 in one night.

Seriously though, we monks have two things going against us. A lot of the NA players that started when the game came out bolted for DRG DRK SAM NIN and PLD as soon as they hit level 30. Now DRG and DRK will almost always get an invite before a monk, mainly because a lot of people don't realize how strong a monk is. In one of my recent parties, the drk couldnt outdamage me unless he used Last Resort and Souleater, at which time the mob turned on him and sickle slashed him dead for 643 damage. Dragoons get the invite just because of pentathrust, which is totally understandable.

The second thing is that we're from NA. It's bad enough that the NA's don't pick us, but now the JP's won't pick us either. The other day I was on, I checked my level range for all available monks. There was one JP at 53, then me at 54 and another JP at 55. In 10 minutes (still alone looking for a party) I check again. The 53 and 55 have a party. What about me?

Honestly, if you want to party with Japanese, you're going to have to take the time to put the party together yourself with albeit mixed success. Sometimes you can put together groups easily. Other times, they don't go so well. One of my worst experiences as a Japanese speaker typing in Romaji:

Lakshmi now has a lot more "JP PT only" descriptions in search messages which makes it very difficult to party with JP players. There's a level 55 Paladin named Olivia (Yeah, that's right, you know who you are! ) who just hates Americans. I tried twice to get him to join without any luck. Then on another night my party leader got him to join by telling him that a bunch of us could speak Japanese (which we could!). But after seeing someone speak English he quickly said:

I just got Raging Fists tonight which I love. And I actually had 3 partys fighting over me at one point. I'm hoping that will continue.

But I agree with what most people say, NA players don't understand Mnks. I've out damaged Drks and Drgs plenty of times now, but they will (on 90% of occasions) still get invites before me.
