One note about sub /WAR, if you're in a party with a Thief, you may be called to sub tank at the start of fights or before Renkei so the Thief can fudioma onto the MT. In that case, you pretty much need Provoke.

It's not an argument in favor of /WAR for more damage dealing, but it's one thing to consider for intelligent partying.

You're quite a daydreamer and can be a hopeless romantic. You enjoy being creative and don't mind being alone at times.

The choice is your own. Certain things you should figure out yourself instead of asking others. I get annoyed when someone examines me and then proceeds to ask me how to make money. The same thing for /war or /sam. Try it yourself. Alot of the people that posted here agrue different things dismissing either /war or /sam , they are both good choices. As for /nin though I see no point. And I'll say it again though it's been said a few times, /war is not so you can tank. Monk tanking at 40+ even becomes rather pointless. Trick tank is one thing when you plan to be the punching bag for 10 seconds, which /war helps because you can provoke the incoming monster for the thf to trick your tank then they can provoke. Outside of that you're a waste of MP.

I myself am a 51 a few exp from 52 monk. I plan on lvling /war, /thf, and /sam to 30+ before I start leveling again really. Even /thf I don't really like for PT very much anymore, but it's useful for soloing and camping certain NM. I used /thf till lvl 40 ish ,plan on using /war till at least 60, and then /war and /sam depending on PT makeup. I see them both useful depending on situation and don't see a reason not to do both ( besides the fact I haven't leveled /sam yet and I hate Qufim).

I just hit 50 MNK / 25 WAR last night and my god the difference a single level makes is devastating. Because Double Attack can trigger off of both punches, you end up getting 3 attacks about 1/4 to 1/3 of the time. I even saw two 4 attacks happen in the span of 30 minutes.

I can only imagine this gets more insane with 51 and Kick.

You will likely gain just as much TP from the extra attacks as you would with a SAM sub. You would also lose Berzerk which is a great damage increasing skill that dosen't gain a lot of hate. Having a backup Provoke makes you feel good too.

Haven't really read through this topic, so I'll just take a jab.

/SAM isn't about the Store TP trait, it's about Meditate.
You generally use the sub when the PT wants you
to churn out WS' every few seconds (instead of every minute.)
This is probably to allow a single Monk to open and close a skillchain
for those times when you need another set of H2Hs.

So /WAR is the standard when going for continuous damage rather than a string of WS'.

Never gave /THF much though after starting the game,
it offers very little to most classes besides DRK (and sometimes NIN.)
DRKs almost need TA to use Guillo
without getting hit the rest of the fight.
Generally, SA & TA are better left to Thieves,
they get more of a bonus out of it and it's best to leave
the hassle of yokodama to as few classes as possible.
          Rude, but not wrong. ;x

people will start asking you if you have lvled your Sam.
You are never asked if you have Samurai leveled post 65....you are always asked if you have Theif leveled. Samurai isn't that great of a sub for MNK due to no multihit ws' that give enough TP back.

Maybe possible after 71 with Asura, but I still wouldn't sub it due to hate management, greater attack over time with WAR sub, and the abilities from WAR far outshine SAM sub abilities.

Raging Fist doesn't give enough TP back, at lvl 46 I only get 29%TP back after a full Raging Fist of 5 hits, then the mob usually turns around and hits you once for a total of 31% TP. At lvl 41-45 you get only 30% TP.

Well, right now my monk can throw in 1-2 raging fist per fight, and if you land all your hits, it's going to be on you for a long while, if you had meditate and doing 2-3, you'd probably die.

I just died last night after a doing Raging Fist on a Spider at Quicksand and it returned 2 hits and 763 dmg Sickle Slash on me. The pld did voke but couldn't get it off and that was just 1 ws, doing more would be wishing to die. I had berserk and 2 sniper rings so def was fairly low, I turn off berserk now when ever the mob faces me after releasing TP >.<

Someone in favor of /SAM mentioned something like "Isn't gaining more hate mean more damage meaning better?"

Well no, for example if the mob was entering your camp and the pld vokes it and you throw in Raging Fist and do 300+dmg on it, it's going to start hitting you till pld flashes. Well you suceeded in gaining hate, but if you waited for the flash or 2nd voke to do your raging fist you'd do just as much dmg and it wouldn't hate you. So more hate doesn't mean you are doing more dmg.

/SAM is just not as good as multi ws with big weapons, Mnks get TP fast enough, so /SAM is for most part for Meditate which is good for SC. I would say, lvl it and have it ready when you hit 60. If there are other party members with meditate like SAM/ or other /SAM then use it and SC with them, and pray the pld can keep it off you guys. ^^ If there are no other person to SC with you then I think /WAR is better for consistant higher dmg w/o messing hate up, b/c spamming TP at higher lvl will be the death of you.
