they're suppost to get hit every once in a while, by that I mean that short time period where your buddy's charging provoke.

things that hit me for 100+ hit the pld for 30 :sweat: I don't feel like i'm supposed to be hit. I get brutalized when I take aggro, I'm just used to getting behind the paladin as soon as I do. I hate partying with a WAR tank now ; ;

Ok lets think about this for one second. At lvl30 sam, you get 2 tp stores. now if u gaine 2% per tp store, that means ull be getting 10% tp per hit(and even if it was 1% it still would be 8%). so you pull of something like raging fists, u have 50% tp right there. and if u pull off dream asura,(which im not sure wut lvl a mnk gains that ws) you will be getting 80% tp just for doing a ws. That is crazy because that is just constant tp. plus mediate which you can do about every other battle if its a 3min timer.
im just thinking wow 80 tp with one ws, 2 more hits and i got another ws, constant. and if dream is anything like raging, its gonna be like 600+dmg every 20 secs.

Then you gotta take into consideration the advantages that Warrior offers.

Not only do you have Bezerk to give you that extra dmg *about 100+ more dmg with Raging fists*, but you also get the double attk. In a 5-8 combo hit, your very more than likely to get in yet another hit... upping your dmg once again by a hefty number *If 5 hits would do 500.. then 6 would do 600.. plus 100 from bezerk etc..*.

Then not only would you get the dmg boost, but that extra hit *or possibly 2 if your lucky* would give you an extra 6% tp, not as much as a SAM, but considering you might punch out another 100-250 dmg, it seems rather worth it.

Mustn't forget either that if your constantly pummeling the enemy with WS attacks.. there's a good chance you'll get aggro *especially if your tank sucks*. Here the Monster will tear you up well... with war subbed you still can't take the hits that well.. but better than /sam.

Trust me though, as fun as it sounds to constantly spam Raging Fists or such, you won't beable to. Much like many drk's figure they can slam on Bezerk+lastresort+Souleater+mithkabobs, they can't cause they simply draw way too much aggro. Half the challenge of playing a Dmg dealing class is learning when to use your attk output and when not to. Plus outside of Comob's the Monk subbed with Warrior will obviously shine a bit more.

By al means Samurai is a very feasible choice *although to me not till 60+*, but I'm just saying your gonna have to restrain yourself a bit as the higher levels come.

It really depends on what the PT wants from you.
Either be a consistant damage machine or pump out regular WSs.

When you get Dragon Kick at lvl 65,
people will start asking you if you have lvled your Sam.

just pick a sub you enjoy, they all deal the same relative damage, just in different ways, mnk/thf has higher accuracy for more hits, but lower damage, mnk/war adds more damage to each hit, but you miss a bit more, mnk/sam adds more tp, which allows more ws to be used, which is my main source of dmg right now, once you start partying with paladins (assuming they do their job) you wont take any hits, unless you are pulling with chi blast. Each sub has its advantages and disadvantages, pick the one you like and use it, if you're serious about it you can make it work, i've seen many strange subs, and am usually surprised at their effectivness.

Monks are just too powerful with /WAR you still gain good TP without /SAM and yo hit fast so gaining tp isn't a problem get the "Brown Belt" STR +5 Haste 8% I belive plus Monks get alot of hate with /WAR why do you want /SAM ? So you can die more? :sweat:

if /sam gets more hate, that means /sam does more damage, no?

and it's not instant death when a monster targets you. Monks have dodge, samurai have 3rd eye. Monks are meant to be hit a little too, why have counter stance, or counter at all if they weren't? They won't out tank a paladin, but they'll fare faar better than mages.

Yes, yes we are. I have 1062 HP at my level, but IT mobs hit me for over 100 or more. Besides I'm not built to take hits, I'm built to do damage. I use berserk, which lowers DEF about 30 points, and meat mithkabobs, which lower it a few more again. Dodge doesn't help much at higher levels either, maybe get you a miss every 10-12 hits. After that many hits, I'm dead anyway.

Counterstance is the absolute worst ability in the entire game. I used it once to see what it did, and my DEF went from 211 down to 41. You've gotta be kidding me. At that rate, 2 hits and I'm dead. I didn't even bother to test out how much it helps counterattack, but if it's like any other ability in the game, it doesn't help enough to survive with 42 defense.

ok....i noticed somthing when i was reading these posts....all the people who are saying that mnk/war is the way to go have had war leveled up past there mnk....i personally use mnk/nin and i do more damage than the war, almost as much as a drk at the same level...not only that, but i can weaken the monster to the element of the renki thats bieng used for more dam. Ive played as mnk/sam and the tp boost isnt that great...with a mnk u hit 2 times per round=10%tp...with mnk/sam and u hit 2 times=12%tp...not worth it to me...and also when u sub nin it helps with your dex and agi so u dont get hit as often

in my opinion if any other job hade provoke the war job would go the way of the dodo cause that seems like thats all its good for..

The arguement againt /sam because "you'll get too much aggro" expects that person to have no restraint
If you get more aggro, it's because you're doing more damage, right? If a /sam can potentially do more damage, then the user should be able to have the restraint to hold off the ws's, intentionally doing as much as a /war, but still with the potential to do more.
so pace the WS.

I'm level 50MNK/25Warrior and i have to say warrior is not a bad sub, not at all.. Double Attack makes a noticable difference and i have had Raging fists hit 6 times a couple of times (34%TP return)

Berserking and doing Focus every 5 min is awesome en they work GREAT with Hundred fists.. i unleashed that fury on Bone NM for M5-1 and i kicked SERIOUS ASS! DRK wouldnt stand a chance dmgwise no matter what he did..

At LV60 I'm gonna try samurai sub, before that it really doesnt bring much to cheer about.. (Therefor im not gonna listen to the LV31 guy saying war sub and sam sub sucks)

Thf sub works good at LV30-49 imo, when you get doubleattack from war sub, thf sub wont feel that great..

Let me lay down my thoughts
MNK/THF - Greateast at LV30-49 (maybe 60-75 with trickattack, i wouldnt know)
MNK/WAR - Good at LV30-49, great at LV 50+
MNK/SAM - Greatest at LV60-75

i would never try NIN sub.. it really doesnt have much to offer unless you use dualwield effiently or blink (prefferably both)
