Well, just like Semih said to me, be what you want, but just know that you'll be preferred in PT if you make up your mind between tanker and mage ... I myself will probably vaccillate (sp?) between DRG/PLD, PLD/WAR and DRG/WAR ... hopefully Square-Enix will soon focus in their patching on not only balancinc out individual jobs, but job combos as well ... oh, to see the day when THF/BRD gets just as many PT invites as PLD/WAR ... that'll be frickin' it ... :spin: :spin: :spin:

Which would be a better choice... DRG/WAR or DRG/MNK?

Trust me, you probably do not want to sub red mage... I don't see how it could be benefitial to a dragoon. You could cast stone, perhaps, but, you'll most likely do jack damage.. You could cure yourself perhaps, but it wouldn't be too useful in the long run. To my knowledge you can only cure your dragon when you sub white mage, but if you sub white mage then your dragon won't use his breath attack when you use your WS.
I've had a lot of dragoon experience so far, and I can probably say that the only initial combo that will work succesfully in a party is DRG/WAR, mainly due to taunt. PTs will most likely not accept anything else. I have been invited several times as a DRG/MNK or DRG/WHM, but each time they told me to switch sub-job to WAR so I can taunt. It may seem not that important, but it really is. Thanks to Donnovan for enlightening me on that. At levels 25+, honestly it would be better for someone taunting to die rather than an enemy killing the white mage.. Because they can revive you on the spot, but if the white mage dies then you need to waste a lot of time searching for one, etc.
That's my two cents <

Whm is a nice sub for most any solo-work, it's just a matter of whether or not you want that extra strength and your dragoon to use the breath attacks. In my personal experience, I didn't need to cure much anyways, because I was kicking a good deal of assige. Additionally, it seemed to work out that I'd just heal my dragon and when he was done healing, I'd also be at full HP. So it works out that way.
Note: I just tried subbing Monk for level 39-41 because my War is only at 12, and I noticed several things. I felt incredibly helpless not being able to taunt. Also wasn't doing nearly as much damage as I was even with my low War sub. I also did not notice any increase of accuracy. In fact, it seemed to take a plunge. Perhaps it was just the enemies I was fighting, but those're my observations on the whole debate. I'm definately gonna take a break and level War a whole bunch to get it up to speed.

How is that Dragoon/Thief working out for you. I was planning to be a Theif but Dragoon has just recently caught my attention and you seem to know what your talking about"The less people have to, but the more that people do think, the better"
"Carry two sacks around with you. That way if anyone asks for your help you can say 'sorry got these here sacks"

Ah, this is bad. I was hoping MNK's counter, attack up and HP boost will be make MNK a better SJ for DRG before getting their best WS and after able to equip lance.Originally posted by Cobalt Katze

I think WAR is definitely a better SJ before DRG Lv.20 though. Because monsters at this level are not hitting very hard and DRG can still serve as tanker. So taunt is a plus.
Aside: after getting DRG's best WS, I am quite confident SAM SJ will work out pretty nice.

I heard the US version will be released in Oct-Nov this year. I am not sure if Square will release the expansion pack as well. You need the expansion pack to play the Dragoon job.
