Man I thought threads like this would stop someday. If you search through these forums you will find more of this type of threads that you would expect. Also seems like people are here looking for flame wars and never any good, productive discussion(kinda like the ragnarok forum).
Anyways I usually try to help out the young ones, but in this case...yeah SAM sub is crap. Even past 60 its worthless. Every good DRG will know that if you don't sub WAR you are stupid.

Kailea-D: DRG/SAM does not compare to DRG/WAR ( I've mentioned this in at least 3 other threads) because if you have enough acc (which you should) you won't need meditate. You will beat almost everyone to 100TP, except RNG and SAM when they have meditate up. Now on to DRG/THF: Not a very good combo either, DRG is not as good of a SC closer as DRK...DRK can pull off 1000+ damage Spinning Slash easy while DRG will hover around 700 damage with SATA wheeling thrust. DRG/WHM or BRD very good solo combos.

Btw Buuyon for fafnir DRG should be subbing WHM, for stoneskin and for healing yourself and I still don't have problems hitting him.

My SAM is only level 13....I have no entention of subing it for DRG

When I hit 60 I will switch between WAR and THF sub, depending on PT setup

and for skillup/ mission PTs I will sport WHM or BRD sub, just to make it alittle more interesting

the reason why I listed it like I did, was because most still think that 60+ you can sub SAM, and I did not feel like starting any crap......so chilll lol, I am not stupid :p

Well if you guys are wondering "why people say drg suck" etc etc here is the answer, as im getting higher up in the lvls obviously not what some consider to be high, I see that we can't compare to some other classes, at this lvl we start off with like 32k tnl, and that's pretty much a lot, people want to get it fast so a lot of parties consist of just rng, blm, rdm brds, etc. and where some have a drk for sata guillo, sam for sata yukikaze or a thf for sata DE, we aren't cared for much because for me anyways skewer does about 250-300, where there's is going up to about 450-600. I've talked to LS members they say that it is going to suck from 60+ and mostly I make my own parties, but I put up my flag for the heck of it while farming for a few hours, and not one /tell so im starting to believe them, im just going to keep making my own parties, even though they're not as good as most going on, and about wheeling thrust, that apparently is pretty shitty and only good for opening light sc's, according to them anyways but I will soon see for myself. That's pretty much all I can say for drg at this time, but as for pre 60 they do outdamage sam, drk and sometimes war.

And to tell the truth what really kills me is I've been told also, and I know for fact it's true, that a lot of HNM LS's do not accept drg, because they fail to see their damage worthwhile. This really sucks in my mind because I want to participate in endgame stuff but it is apparently going to be hard-impossible

Doesn't matter what job you are at lvl 65+ you are still gonna have to wait LFG for a while or make your own parties. Rogan about wheeling thrust, yes it is a light sc opener but it can do great damage with the right amount of STR+. At lvl 70+ lvling up sucks for a few reasons.
1. Very few options on where to go.
2. Most mobs give low xp.
DRG is a fine job. No you can not outdamage a DRK but DRG is not competing against DRK for PTs...they play different roles, DRG is sc opener and DRK is closer. Those 2 jobs are not competitors they are an unit.
Another tip...Don't listen to DRG bashers, what they say is bullshit. DRG is not a bad job, the thing is that the only job that plays the same role as DRG is RNG and they are prefered because they obviously do the best damage for a melee class.

Well thanks for the advice, I have +14 str for ws's any idea how much it should do with that?

A properly equiped DRG/WAR and DRK/THF will do about the same total damage to exp mobs. Add in the wyvern, and the DRG typically outdamages the DRK/THF. If the DRK was DRK/WAR, I'd say DRG/WAR + Wyvern and DRK/WAR would do about the same overall damage. It's just a misconception that DRG suck.

As for HNM, DRG aren't great on all HNM, but they are great on most meleeable HNM. My HNM LS uses a DRG. She fought Genbu, and did 10% of the damage to it. She was the next biggest DD under the RNGs, BLMS, and SAMs (SAM/RNG did +20% of the damage to Genbu-more than the BLMs!).

And Wheeling Thrust doesn't suck anymore. Not many WS can deal such big damage to HNMs without SATA, or being a RNG.

On HNMs DRG are ok. They will not get even close to RNG or SAM but they can do pretty well. Ever since I started HNM I've subbed SAM or WAR and damage is always around 400-500. This weekend I'm gonna try subbing THF, with SATA wheeling thrust I will prolly be doing 600-700.
Rogan your wheeling thrust should prolly be doing 400-500 constantly with that much STR.

This thread had for a while detoriated into a place where people can glorify their jobs by bashing others, thanks for saving it.

Also one more thing. FFXI is an extremely visual game, ever noticed the wonderful level of detail in landscapes, outfits and animations? Go to La Theine and creep down into one of those cracks, you will find the most charming jumping flowers! ^^
Anyways, lost meself into rambling there, FFXI is a game where appearance plays a huge part of the experience and DRG's just look wickedly awesome and pretty. Not just in terms of AF, but also fighting style and Weaponskills.
I'm not saying that DRK, NIN, RDM, etc don't look cool, so don't start a flamewar again. But I find the DRG AF armour amongst things to have it's very own beaty in details and overall appearance, plus they are a rare sight in parties nowadays due to the anti-DRG sentiment.

No, I do not judge a class just by it's appearance. I'm not shallow. I just mention that this is another great part about the DRG class. I leave the whole stats and that whole haloopah that has been said so many times now to you more in-depth players.

this post is by my lvl 75 DRG friend (Mijin) who i have played with since we started. Please take the time to read this if you doubt what dragoon can do as he proves most of you wrong with battle logs of many situations. DRG are if not the most one of the most Damage dealer classes around(including their wyvren damage as well) can beat the best equiped DD classes in pretty much all situations... well just take a look you will see. And the myth that a DRG in a PT can't pull as much as a RNG PT is bogus, from 55-75 I partied with a DRG usually with BRD and RDM setup with DD the other DD being DRK or THF we pulled as much exp as any other RNG PT could do .

Many parts of that post are very questionable in accuracy. I for one do not belive most of what he says, however I have no doubt that drg is one of the top melee DDs--I have parsed the results compared to my drk and I have yet to equal a drg +wyvern.

That +20% accuracy from passive level 1 is questionable, as is subbing sam for dynamis. (And the lack of corrrect spelling is a red flag to me.)
