    It's a point of preference.

What do you care about in this game the most? This may seem like a stupid, rhetorical question to some, but the answer varies widely from person to person.

Some people want to hit 75 as fast as possible and start participating in endgame (i.e. HNM, dynamis, sky camping, more HNM). Some people want to do all the missions in the game (rank 10 for all countries, zilart, promathia). Some people just want to craft and/or make money. Some people just enjoy exploring with friends or just xp'ing. There are several other reasons, and many of them complement eachother.

If you want to get to 75 and start contributing to your HNM LS ... then you might have chosen the wrong job unfortunately. The sad fact is that there is a limited space in an alliance (18), thus people want the most preferred jobs to take up the precious slots. Yes, you can switch jobs in and out to hit the monster with a 300% spirits within... whee? RNG and BLM contribute most of the actual damage, NIN, WAR, PLD tank, Lynsy brings up other things that other jobs bring about (THF to sit in a corner for TH3/4, DRK for stun, etc etc).

There just isn't much a DRG can contribute to endgame. Galka DRG can do spirits within, but WAR can do the same (with higher HP) and also tank, SAM gets tp faster. See the point? "Anything you can do (that is helpful), someone else can do better."

Another bad point is Wheeling Thrust. Yes, it's that bad. The Damage modifier was increased from 1x to 1.75x in the recent patch, but it still pales in comparison to most other 225+ WS. The thing about spear sucking against skeletons isn't that big of a deal.. you don't really ever need to xp on skeletons. At 70+ you can level in kuftal, romaeve, sky, etc. But the sheer crappiness of Wheeling Thrust will make you worse than other jobs with fusion WS (war and rng) ... once again, "Anything you can do, someone else can do better."

This shouldn't stop you from getting PT's, especially with friends, so I don't consider this much of a big deal. You will have to deal with the fact that, yes, there is always some other job that could be doing what you're doing better... but many people don't care about this. Well played and equipped DRGs are far from "gimp", and you can have a good PT with DRG, no question.

Anyways that's only for a small level range that many players (especially casual players) won't even reach, so don't worry too much. At 51, the experience you need to level increases dramatically (I think from 8.5k to 20k?) and at 61 it goes up to 30 and raises 1k more with every level I believe. Thus, many jobs get to 50 quickly then worry about high end gameplay... but you shouldn't stress yourself over it too much.

I know all of this may be redundant or common sense, but I bring it up because I myself had a few changes of priority. Back when I played PLD, I wanted to get to high level as fast as possible to contribute in the endgame. Now that I know what the endgame is, I don't want any part in it :p Now I enjoy RNG and just play it casually, xping only 2-3 times a week with some friends and having fun with it. If you can do this with DRG, why not?

Bottom line: DRG aren't gimp. At higher levels and in certain situations, it's true that other jobs may do your job a bit better. But other than god/king HNMs, DRG still make a solid PT member.
I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.
