This is off topic, but are lvl3 SCs supposed to do more damage than level 2 SC?

2 lvl69 LS members were paryting and talking about their SC (WAR Raging Rush => RNG Slug Shot) and I asked them if they were going to use a level 3 SC, but they replied that the level 3 SC would do way less damage. Unfortunately I don't know what they were fighting or where they were at the time..I'm pretty sure they had a NIN tank though... sorry for bein off topic.

Level 3 skillchains aren't an absolute necessity 65+, but they generally speed up killing and make for good exp. Fortunately dragoons have a fusion weaponskill, which is the most desired skillchain opener as it goes with shark bite and spin slash to make light. Unfortunately, ranger and warrior also have a fusion opener, so you've definitely got competition.

On topic, it depends on your end goal. For exp parties dragoons are not gimped per se, they can do very respectable damage. You might have trouble getting parties sometimes but so does every other class that fills your spot in a normal group (except ranger, who will almost always get picked over you).

However if you're looking to fight HNM someday, I strongly encourage you to level another job. Melee classes don't have it so well on HNM as it is, and dragoon is even at the bottom of the melee classes on HNM. I reallly hate to say it, but dragoon is probably the least desirable class in the game for HNM fights. Not saying that to be mean, that's just the way it is. If you're not interested in HNM though, there's nothing wrong with sticking with it.

yes they are hyper notorious monsters, they aren't very good because like drk and about every melee they are inaccurate, and HNMs are extremely hard to hit, so some melee (some believe drg) arent useful enough to have around when they are hardly ever hitting the HNM, actually drg could also be a SATA buddy but at the same time you could just have a nin instead

                HNM

It's Honorific Notorious Monster, not Hyper. Those NMs that give you titles after you kill them are HNMs not necessarily all high levels, which also means not all high level monsters are HNMs, *cough* Bune *cough*

Melee, in the minds of most, must provide more than just melee damage to be worthwhile on HNMs (except RNG, who will outdamge BLMs on a lot of them >.>)
                  DRKs are Stun bitches.
                  MNKs are Chi Blast whores.
                  THFs are there for TH.
WARs sub NIN and tank or SAM and sub in and out for Spirits Within.
                  SAMs...more SW.
DRGs have nothing really to offer HNM beyond poking things. The wyvern will hit for 0 (even if they didnt, many HNMs have bad AoEs which will kill it quickly). And the DRGs melee damage will be nerfed like all other jobs--but with more devastating affects as the wyvern is responsible for making up most of the damage gap between DRGs and other melees. In theory they can sub SAM and SW as well, but WARs have much higher HP and can be good tanks and SAMs have much better meditate.
That being said, DRGs can ravage some of the lowbie HNMs (Behe, Roc/Simurgh are all weak to piercing), but ultimately on higher HNMs the effectiveness of DRGs (and all melee) depends on the strats implemented--it just happens to be to the disadvantage to most melee that most LSs are "BLMs and SW onry."

lol one Penta is gonna make you quit? bad idea, no offense, I have hit penta for 18 and I have also hit penta for 606, it's all chance basically (and TP) of how many hits land. Wheeling Thrust>Spinning Slash I have heard to be quite a good level 3 sc, so that part about us not being in them is wrong, and I suggest getting friends to do BCNMs

Since Spirits Within, is based on 1/2 your HP @ 300%tp. Wouldn't a Galka Drg/nin\sam do well at an HNM event? I mean Even at only lvl 57, I have 1200+ HP (SW would do 600 dmg @ 300TP at my current lvl right?)

Could a Galka Drg deck himself out in Acc and HP gear, to do more SW damage, and therefore make himself more appealing to HMN raids?

First of all they would have to be SAM sub for higher HNMs for that idea, as its melee sub-in with TP for SW. Secondly, my point was not that they couldnt--but that anyone else could as well, but also had other things to offer.
In the end, it all depends on the LS and the mob--and more so the former than the later.

                              LOL MND

Why for all the stats on DRG you are supposed to focus on , you

focus on MND? WOW i think MND has no purpose for the DRG

job , only TO THINK that the sub you are using will actually help

you get lots of parties ... no. If i saw a Drg/Rdm looking for a PT in

Jeuno i would /tell him he forgot to change his subjob before he

decided to search. MND has its place for some job abilities but

DRG has none of them... so i dont know why you are 'pressed

                              over the idea.

BUT before i scroll down my screen and click submit reply i will say

"YOU can be whatever you want to be! play the way you like it!"

and so on because i know the next 3 replies would include them

Just don't want to see anymore ranting about jobs and more strategy and helping each other become great. :dead:
