Last night while I was in Valkurm I managed to get a PT with a drg. I asked him how hard was the dragon and was shocked to find out his reply. He said he was able to take it down with a PT of FIVE people all level 30! The PT consisted of 2 wars, 1 whm, 1 mnk, and 1 pal. He even said the monk did most of the tanking during the fight. Since then I've asked other drgs and they all said their PTs (all of which were pretty much lvl 30) were able to take it down. Guess this dragon isn't as hard as some people say, then again it could be they were really skilled PTs. Oh well, I can't wait till I'm a dragoon! :spin:

Tried to do it today with some 30s just to prove everyone wrong, but it wouldn't even let my party join in the battle. Anyone else run into this? My party was never allowed to follow and always got "the door is sealed firmly shut." message. What gives?
All party member must be at the same point in the quest as you are in order to help with the fight.

A player posted on a different forum that he was able to do the quest as a 30 WHM/RDM, along with a 32 PAL/WAR, 31 BRD, 30 THF, 30 MNK/WAR, and 30 BLM/WHM. (Don't remember the THF and BRD subs.) He said the party only survived because they brought hi-potions along. Given the advanced classes involved, it's probably very difficult for a group of plain L30s to do the quest.

I had a level 58blm/29whm help me kill the dragon.

I was a level 30 warrior and it conned "strength impossible to gauge". I don't know how hard it could hit, but I was only doing 0-20 damage on it with a polearm. And there were a lot of misses.

Reason it conned that was because it was a NM

Bubbly Bernie also cons impossible to gauge, but I took him out in 2 hits for a quest last night.

I am SOOOO reminded of most strategy guides ... hehe especially ffxii...

'Although it is possible to defeat Sephiroth below level 90, we recomend you save him until level 99'

My step brother ARGUED with me for a good half hour telling me that i DID NOT beat the game with my level 40ish party... He said it was impossible becuase all of the strategy guides say its impossible. Well, as rumor has it, I did indeed destroy the cute-girl killing monster. :-D .. with level 40s (Ghasp!) (Yeah yeah now this thread will turn into 'yeah? man- i beat that game in ten minutes, with only level 4 characters! and the fish was THIIIIISSSS long!")

Anyway... moral of the story goes as thus... If you do it right, your level 30's could SO kick its ass.

              Good luck young dragon slayer.
May the schwartz be with you.

You can defeat the dragon with a group of 30's, you'll just need to use potions. I've talked to lots of the NA DRG's on Midgardsormr; the three of them who beat the dragon in a PT of low 30's (30-33ish) all said they needed potions. All of the others I spoke to said they got high-level help.

So I think without potions probably need at least a PT of 35+.

I managed to unlock it along with two friends solely due to a 60+ Dragoon helping us. We were all level 30 and could barely hurt the dragon. Its breath can do 200+ damage to a lvl 30...I really don't think its possible or at least very difficult to beat it with a lvl 30 PT. I highly suggest getting help.

                    re

I just finished the Quest tonight (30 warrior). I Had a lvl 46 warrior/23 white mage help me out.

It is really hard to hit when you are lvl 30. And if you do manage to hit it you probably wont hit for over 20. It didnt hit me, agro was on the other warrior. So im not sure how hard he hits for. It did cast Paralize on me which sucks big time.

Oh and he already had Dragoon unlocked, but could join the battle with me.

The rule that 'everyone has to be at the same point in the quest' is getting highly annoying to me. It should certainly restrict people that aren't from getting anything from completing any given quest like that, but they shouldn't be prevented from helping. After all, many people have no interest in doing a quest, but want to help their friends.

Along with the fact that I could not convince enough (read: more than 1 or 2) people to help me because they heard it was 'impossible' and were too afraid to go into a battle that may actually be challenging, the rule of everyone being at the same point in the quest would be rather restrictive as well, as even if I could convince my friends to help me, I doubt I could get them to go through the entire Dragoon quest.

I have to wonder at this point how Square intended these fights to be done. From the sound of it, they were intended to be very challenging for a group of 30's, but the hoops one must jump through in order to get that group are astounding. In the end, I was pretty much forced to get help from a level 60 Dragoon. Completely cheapened the victory for me, though I'm grateful to him. I hope I don't have to rely on such methods for anything else in the future, though. I enjoy challenge in the game, myself.

Personally, I'm rather confused as to why that fight doesn't have a Level Down effect to it, like some of the other quests in the game. o.O

Its hard for me to buy that you have to be at 'the same point in the quest' to fight the drag.. Can some of you who have been there tell me: did you have your whole team finish the first two drg missions before entering this one? I really want to add drg to my list.. :-( I need help on Fairy, if anyone is available and willing.

you MUST all be at the same exact point in the drg quest, thats it.

Some guy I was partying with last night said the dragon was very hard and you needed a party of 40+ to beat it. He was a DRK though so what does he know? Anyway, I'm at level 22 right now and I want to ger DRG as soon as I hit 30 or very close after. Can any of my Caitsith buddies help me out here? Send Xander a message!
