  • How many invites do YOU get?

I keep reading all this crap about Drk's being overlooked, about people who say "play for fun" and such..

Well, let's face it folks. This game is about partying. If you don't find a party, you're not going to have a tremendous amount of fun are you?

Therefore, disregarding your reputation and such, how many parties have you got? Does it take you long to get them? Do you end up waiting for hours to get parties?

Cause I'm thinking of going Ranger for the pure dmg and such. I keep hearing about how Dark Knights don't do a tremendous amount of damage and their black magic leaves much to be desired.

I know it's not the best to listen to the typical idiots that plague forums but it seems like its all I read.

I love the concept of Dark Knight, and frankly I know that it may not do as much damage as a Ranger, but it's more versatile in ways a Ranger can't be.

I do like Dark Knight, but I can't afford to sit there and wait for 3 hours in Jeuno for a single invite. Having a life prevents this for me. So while I may love the idea of Dark I might have to choose something else simply so I can play the game. Perhaps I've fallen victim to the apparent rampant NA player belief that damage is the end all of job classes and nothing else matters.

Please, FFXI guru's, alleviate this poor jerks misconceptions on this kickass job.

For me, the time if day is the real kicker. If you seek during late hours of the night when all the parties have deployed to their camps and are exp'ing then you're going to have a hard time finding a party. Usually, 4-7 CST, is the window of oppertunity for me. I usually get an invite within 30 minutes to an hour between those times. Before or after, it is really a hit or miss. I can get one in 5 seconds before I get my comment even written, or I can stare and drool at the AH for hours, waiting for an invite.

Honestly, I havn't had too much trouble at all.

i want some fun but i hate waiting for parties, i love dealing dmg so i might just play ranger but i dont like the concept of it.

      simple.
      1. make your own parties and find out why is it so hard to get party for certain job at certain level.
      2. try out drk and rng.
      3. play a bst because all job has to wait for invite if they dont want to put together PTs.
      4. you might as well quit the game.

better yet get your sub job first.

This got nothin to do with my damned sub job. It's a simple question, and Varo, thank for you answering.

I'm trying to figure things out now so I can properly prepare for my future advanced job. I don't want to get to 30 and think "so where now?"

Even before 65/66 people want you for SATA? Hmm, guess I better get thief up then. I was going to take my time with warrior sub but if you say you get invites because of thf at 60 then hell....

Yeah, as far as charts go DRKs got a nice start and do pretty good. They hit a point around 40 - 59 were their damage slips it's twice that of a PLD's but will be about half that of a RNG or MNK around that time. Once you reach 60 and over though the new WSs you get balances your damage very nicely, you are able around this point to match or beat MNKs till it comes to fighting bones then of course MNKs beat everyone in the melee class.

I think this says a lot.

I've always wanted to try out Dark Knight. The job looks interesting, using great swords and wearing plate is cool.

But I won't, unless I get into some kind of set PT deal.

In fact, I'm hesitant to touch any other melee job in this game even though I do want to play a good number of them (specifically DRK, WAR, PLD, RNG, NIN).

The reason is...finding/forming parties; or the inability to do so. I so hate this part (I would say it's a big flaw) of the game - I really pity melee players, and really respect them at the same time because I know what a lot of them go through.

Nowadays, I just log in with my Red Mage. If I want to party, I turn off /anon and I usually get a tell in a few minutes, under an hour at max.

During my time leveling DRK to 75, I never really had trouble getting invites. I had a static party from level 49 to 65, but post- level 65 with a THF sub, invites never stopped flowing.

So what about the early levels?

I mean .. its obvious about the kind of people in Dunes and such, hell I'm low level and often I think "what the hell is this person thinking?"

So far it sounds good tho..

                        lvl 1-15 you can solo

lvl 15-30 you will get PT's fairly often. IMO this is due to the fact that many new players who do not have a lvl 30 already for advanced jobs want to see how "cool" Drk is. It is known that many players will want to play Drk for that "coolness" factor that they percieve Drk has :p.

30-50 it gets slightly harder but still bearable. Really its not too hard to get PT's here.

50-60 Hardest point for PT's for almost every Melee job.

60-65/66 It's not too bad, usually you will get invited if the PT already has a Rng (Guillotine > Sidewinder or Sidewinder > Sickle Moon).

66-75 (Now I personally havent done this... I'm 64 atm;; ) but the ability to close any type of renkei and still give out good damage doing so is a real bonus to Drks. You will get PT invites because of it.

On my personal experience, ever since around lvl 50-55 I have made my own PT's till now (64). Just yesterday I actually managed to get a PT invite without even seeking (it was after a skill up PT). The reason for the invite was because they had a Rng, and there were no other available Drks. I have always made PT's on my own or with some friends in LS, I find it to be the easiest way to lvl (other than static PT...). Currently
, since I play in early mornings I have managed to get a few english or JP players with good english from my LS around my lvl to lvl with me (a semi-static PT) and just pick up a few JP players.

Also something to remember, many times you wont get many PT's if you have "scared" you're reputation.

                          Thanks for the post!

This was my biggest worry. A Ranger can solo fairly high and such. My biggest worry about Drk was the partying and such. But it seems like it's not quite as bad as I had thought.

It just bothers me how so many people tend to think in terms of simple damage and neglect everything else.. Unfortunately a lot of these people are out there and you end up partying with them.

But you've all alleviated my fears

Ednoon wasn't really far off in his comments, even if you may have been slightly offended by it ^^

I am one of those NA version DRKs that started the game with a few friends, and didn't have the luxury of a Static/Set PT. Occasionally my RDM friend would be available for PTs but after convert/refresh 40/41 he got into PTs really fast and our playing times were different too. As such, i took to the habit of making/designing my own PTs, getting to know JP people, and working hard in a PT.

I feel each player, no matter how "its just a game", is responsible for the exp/enjoyment of other players, in sometimes small ways, and others, rather significant.

As such, a responsible player, who takes the time to learn his job well, and play it better, will have a much better time with PT invites. Like it or not, we're easily substituted in the 30's to the 60's, and it would be in your best interest to pick up what the JP refer to as "Auto Leader" job ability, that Dark Knights tend to learn subconciously ^^

In the long run, it benefits you much more exp/skill wise, and you are more in control of your exp grind/flow.

I made PTs all the way to 75, even with the learning of Cross Reaper/Spinning Slash, cause as we all know, the DRK population is one of the most common among the melee range. As such, making your own PTs (good ones that is) would assure you a better time exping as you aren't reliant on joining a PT that MIGHT comprise of unskilled/lazy players, or a bad combination of jobs.

                            --

The DRK isn't as shunned a class now as i believe more and more DRKs out there are doing their jobs better and people are starting to appreciate the damage-over-time we contribute, even in the shadow of Fuidama+Viper Bite 33++, and Sidewinder 55++.

I don't know if i answered any of your questions, but it's just a reply from me ^^

Do feel free to drop me a private message if you have any further queries (this goes out to not only original poster, but any who might have some doubts/questions they'd like to clear up.

Good day to you all ^^b
