  • Sniper ring is killing me.

I'm writing this seeking advice from HL DRKs, like Awntawn, reguarding my DRK gear.

Ok, I finally picked up my first sniper ring (sold the dex ring back), and also picked up 2 fang earrings.

Eager to try them out, I went lvling.... errrr.....not pretty, died twice yesterday pulling crabs and pugils in Terrigan (it was either me, PLD, or a DRG, so I was the puller).

The problem is that i'm taking too many hits on my way back.... So by the time I get back to camp (having to dodge the pugils and raptors on the way), I was always down to half HP.

Heh... So I'm thinking is it really that good of an idea for sniper rings and earrings that kill your defense and evasions.

I mean, I was wearing 2x drone earrings (+3 agi +6 wind) and 2x DEX ring (+6 dex) before then, and I was doing much better. And accuracy isn't a problem for me. Me and the DRG were doing the Vorpal Scythe > Vorpal Thrust = distortion. I always end up waiting for him, with me at 150% TP and he's just hit 100.

Each sniper ring lowers your defense by 10, and totally murders your darkness defense (-20 each)... OUCH! Is it really worth it for +5 Acc? After all, 2 x +3 Dex ring = +3 acc, and a lot more criticals right? And it doesn't kill your defense at the same time.

I'm having doubts about putting on more gears that kills my defense for the sake of accuracy.... I'm actually thinking about picking up an phalanx ring instead of another sniper ring (not to mention, I only have 150K left after the 1st ring)...

    Any thoughts?

      totally useless

Why waste bandwidth with post like that? And FYI, no I don't suck at pulling. You try pulling 100 times in Terrigan without getting hit, or an add, or aggro on your trip.

We had to share the same camping spot with 2 other parties. So crabs had to found and pulled from quite some distance. And if you have been there, you would have known that there are aggroing raptors and pugils near the cave entrence and all over the map, forcing you to dodge them and take long detours on your return leg back to camp. Think you can do that willing getting wailed on by your pull?

The other pts had THF/NINs, and they had the luxury of flee, hide, and utsusemi. Even they take hits and pick up adds, and one of them died once.

So stop wasting bandwidth. If you don't know anything, save yourself the embarassment of stick your foot in your mouth.

You just seem to suck at pulling try using stun or bind when you pull if its that hard for you.

        Edit:

Also add that -20 def doesnt let the monster hit you for like 100 more dmg a hit maybe like 5-10 it wont make a huge difference.

          what's your problem

You try pulling. I have been pulling for so long, and I have never been acused of being a puller. You don't know me, and if you try to pulll from across the beach full of raptors and crabs (all the crabs near the cave are gone in an instant, remember we got 3 camps there), you can't tell me you won't take hits.

Stun last 0.5 seconds, and that's with my dark magic skill capped. Bind never sticks.

The problem is you have to take all the long detours around the raptors and pugils that constantly move and get into positions on your way back. Taking detours means you are not traveling in a straight line back to the camp, the crab can catch up with you. Oh, yeah, I could just run staright back and bring a train with me.

Problem here I'm 20 damage less, and 11 evasion less than when i had 2 x +3 dex rings.

why not just take off your -defense, -evasion equipment until you get back to the group? Doesn't take that long to re-equip. Hell, you can make a macro for it, /equip item slot "item name"

20 defense is almost 10% of your defense, and -8 evasion is bascially putting your evasion as the same lvl as someone who's 2 lvls lower. You definitly notice a damage increase, and you are getting hit more often.

Again, my pulling skill is not to be questioned here. The fact that the thieves in the 2 other parties, with their utsusemi, with their flee, with their hide, are taking hits and dying, indiates the problem isn't my pulling skill.

yes, the camp site is one of the worste in the game. With pugils that are still too tough for us and aggros at the entrence of the cave, and the raptors will kill you in about 5 hits. So I always give them a wide berth. The fact that I never got an add should be enough show that I know what I'm doing.

But with 2 other camps sharing the site, you are forced to choose either let the XP chain die, or you pull from across the beach, and run through the obstatcle course of mobs on your way back and forced to take hits. ALl 3 groups are lvl 56-58, so everyone was fighting crabs, and nobody was touching the pugils and raptors. I didn't have a problem like that the first 2 times I was there because we were the only camp there, and we could simply pull the crabs from near the camp.

Again, the problem isn't my pulling skill. I'm lvl 58, and have pulled in every party when there isn't a Thief. Just to add a little more detail, after I died twice in about 3 hours of lvling yesterday, I got sick of pulling, so I said someone else pull. The DRG went, almost died on his first pull because he took so many hits having to zig zag across the maze of mobs. He refused to pull after that 1 attempt. So I ended up pulling after that as well. But luckly, 1 of the party left shortly after, so pulling became much easier with just 2 camps sharing th crabs.

Anyway, the question here is: Is it really worth loading up on +Acc equipment at the cost of your defense? Seeing as I already gain TP plenty of fast. Isn't more ACC sort of over kill now, especially when it cost so much defense. I saw a lot of high LV DRK skilling up sword + shield in the game, so maybe DRK shouldn't go all out or ACC and attack but strike a balance?

I'm a DRG and I've pulled in Terrigan, and even 3 levels higher I likely have less def than you, don't have stun (which is super nice for DRK pullers), 2 sniper rings also. It really isn't that bad, especially for a DRK.

Yea accuracy gear is worth it, especially when you get Guillotine, same reason its important to DRG. Besides, you can macro equipment changes and change in before you start fighting. Also you sub war, that means you have defender (you can click that off you know).

Btw, losing +evasion won't do shit. You already have poor evasion as a DRK just by design of the game. The only jobs it matters to are the ones who have good skill in it, and its questionable at best how much it matters.

i have -5 agil and -20evasion and -22 def from haubergeon and snipper and assualt i can pull raptors in kuftul easily and they run fast.

If you cant run fast enough from a pugil dont even try a raptor.

                    Edit:

                    -27evasion ~_~

switch to Def+ equipment while pulling

though it uses up slots and will definitely cost more, that's about all you can do.

Dont listen to these people saying you are bad puller

i was pulling there at 61 dragoon with 1150 HPs

everytime i made it back to cave i was at like 550 or lower.

I was having to pull from very far since 3 parties there and most stuff camped.

Your best bet is go pull using defender when its up and also using macros of changing equipment.

If you are rich enough buy replacements rings and earrings with +def and use your macro to switch to it right before you pull

when mob is back to party and tank has the aggro just use another macro to requip your stuff.

                          cammus is right

Cammus is 100% on correct. People who are saying that it's easy to make long crab pulls in cape terringan (camped at the tunnel to valley of sorrow) through the a dozen or so pugil + raptors on the beach is either making up stories trying to inflate their ego, or are just flat out lying.

To those who didn't take this oppurtunity to trying to make up stories or massage their egos. I thank you for you advice. Right now, i don't have a huge amount of money to spare. So it's not alway possible to keep multiple sets of good equipment on me. So I'm trying to strike the best balance, or multipurpose set up if you will. I'm not short on accuracy, that much is very much self evident (as meaured by TP gain), so I'm wondering if I've gone a little too over board in term of accuracy, and traded off/neglected other stats that are would offer better performance boost.

Unless you have a Peacock charm, Haubergeon, Life Belt, Assault earring, or some other accuracy items, quite likely you don't REALLY have enough. By 60+ under 30 isn't so hot really. I would assume you have 2 Sniper Rings and a Life Belt since thats what most people have by your level, or at least a life belt more often than not. It isn't so much about ego inflation or anything, but as a DRK you are a damage dealer, accuracy will affect your ability to do damage, defense will not (well if it keeps you alive, I guess it does indirectly, but anyway...).

You sub war, use defender, click it off when you finish pulling. Also I have no clue why people have to sit in that tunnel to exp in Terrigan..be smarter than the 3 groups crowded in a tiny tunnel getting chain 3 max cuz they have nothing to pull, sit on the beach and kill. Not hard to do, and you won't come back half dead. I'm not sure what the problem is, I've grouped with DRK who've pulled there, they maybe take 2-3 hits losing maybe 300ish HP by pulling with stun, not exactly getting owned on pulls.
Besides if you literally have to pull halfway across the beach chances are you aren't getting chain 5 anyway, debateably 4. Find somewhere else to go, there are alterantives.

Seriously if you think 20 def loss is that detrimental, make a macro and just unequip them while you pull. +10 accuracy isn't doing jack shit when you aren't fighting, not a difficult thing to do.

Weezing pipe. Some good points. Right now I have +29 Acc, so I'm not doing poorly on +Acc, the only thing I don't have right now that would add any significant is the peacockcharm (wearing royal guards collar right now), but most people don't have that piece anyway. And if I had 3 million, I would be saving it up for hulberk anyway. :D Anyway, the thing is, right now, I'm land more hits than just about anyone I have PT'ed with. So unless they are a DRG pant-spaming, i'm usually ahead of them in term of TP (and if they are penta spaming, we don't renkei anyway, so TP becomes moot). So maybe I should be adding more... something else.

I guess the problem with defense became acute only because of the zone that we are pulling. I'm on cerebrus, and we have a pretty large server. Doing a /sea all 57-59, you'll see half othe people are in terrigan. :"( That place gets really crowded. Last night, because it's start of the weekend, there were no less than 4 parties there. O.O (P.S never seen anyone camp on the beach, it's full of pugils and raptors, don't think it's possible). Luckly, I got into a JP party, and they had their own little spot in gustov tunnel, and we had it all to ourselves. Gained a Lv super fast and didn't take hits pulling either because nothing is blocking your way back to camp! :D So no more cape terrigan for me! Gonna lvl in there until I hit 60 and then head over to valley of sorrows. Yay, 59 now. 60, here I come!
