DRK/THF seems worthless before 60 even after to me... I was just in a PT with a DRK/THF i was the DRK/WAR he was hitting around 40dmg i was hitting around 70...in Qufim He was a Hume but that shouldnt be that big of a difference. Also you should taunt now and then if your tank is gunna die you taunt. Screw how low your def is its better then the PT getting killed. THF doesnt add that much ya he hit 1 or MAYBE 2 times more then me in a battle thats about it i still took off way way more dmg then him. (we where both using lv20 cruel scythe so no difference there) So dont say you shouldnt taunt, ive been stcuk as a tanker once and i didnt do that bad a job, ya the war would have donr better but I didnt take hit like a mage like a MNK i would say... People dont give the DRKs def any credit at all its low but its not as low as a mage.

It is. Even less when you turn on berserker

You are comparing a DRK/THF under lvl 30. The DRK/THF combo doesnt really shine till the DRK is LVL 30, then you get sneak attack. If you were both 30, i guaruntee the DRK/THF with sneak attacks in battle if he was good at timing them, would do more damage and miss alot less than a DRK/WAR.

As for DRK provoke rarely, thats easy. You get last resort dont you, you get souleater dont you, while in that rare case where one of your tanks might die, or they cant draw aggro off mages with vokes, you use LR and SE and its instant hate on you, and if not the THF can use Sneak attack with those 2 and i guaruntee he will attack you.

Oh and for DEF. My DRK at LVL 40 had around 120-125 DEF. I would draw the hate on the occassions it needed it, and LR and SE were all the provkes i needed. Plus where are your other tanks, you should have 2 War or PLD for tanking in the PT.

After level 60, turn on berserk and your def will still be around that number lol.

Anyhow, THF's sneak attack damage is completely worthless to DRK, it does exactly the same damage as a critical hit. For THF main, it turns a 20 damage hit into a 100 damage hit. For DRK, it turns a 70 damage hit into a 140 damage hit. Big whoop, critical can occur at any time and you get the same result. Berserk is much much better.

In terms of damage, DRK/THF is no where near DRK/WAR, ever.

            BUT

It isn't always about dealing damage. It's about hate control. Guillotine will do 600~800 a pop, well over 1000 with darkness. You don't want the monster hitting you with your low def. With a THF in the party, it's best to sub WAR or SAM so you can maximize damage. Unfortunately, PT's with THF would prefer a ranger or monk or dragoon, because they're much more compatible w/ THF than a DRK WS-wise. For DRK, you usually party with WAR or RNG, sometimes maybe SAM. WAR has to sub SAM to build TP for breaks and WS, no brainer. RNG sub THF doesn't work, and SAM sub THF... just sucks horribly. The only thing that can keep hate here is DRK/THF. Basically, your role in a party as DRK/THF completely changes from being the main damage dealer to being the hate securer, keeping the monster whacking at the guy with the high defense.

Since DRK is the only melee class that depends on strong hits on a single WS to deal damage (RNG isn't melee sneak+deceive doesn't work, MNK is rendered a weakling w/out WAR sub, DRG and SAM depend on speed, WAR doesn't have WS strong enough + needs to do breaks, so needs SAM sub to get TP), it's the most effective /THF class in the game, the second best hate-securer, first being THF itself.

There's 15 minutes of precious calculus study time that I'll never get back. Test tomorrow :dead: :dead: :dead:

              Um you hurted my brain:/

Anyway, i was LVL 37 DRK/THF and was partied with a LVl 37DRK/WAR, same race Humes, i know for a fact i had a ton more DEX(had as much as a mithran Thief LVL 40s base DEX). Anyway he would do about 70 damage to worker crawler, i would do 60, averages here. Now add in the fact that if i time my sneak attacks right which i do i can pull 2-3 off per fight on those workers. Then take into account my DEX i missed a ton less then him, also DEX determines how often criticals pop up, therefor i had more random criticals. I did alot more damage per battle than that war did, plus the LDR of the PT expected him to provoke. I told him in tells not to unless it was needed though. Sure your DRK/WAR might have more STR but thats about the only thing you got on a DRK/THF. Plus DRK/THF arent expected to provoke, when you are a DRK/THF you are acting as the thief of the party, just that you are a badass that does a ton of damage.

Cool, I'm not the only one who thinks Mithra DRK/THF is an awesome combination.

I personally think this set up is the best dmg dealer in game and will own in pvp with fast, strong hits, and high evade.

Savage...if your pt leaders ever expect you or any DRK/WAR to provoke...leave the pt...a THF pt leader made me do if only cause they wanted to Sneak Attack and "It isn't fair that the WAR is the only tank."...I didn't stay in that pt very long...those people are idiots that should learn what the hell they are doing...

anyways, I'm gonna have to side with my good ol' mentor, Awntawn on this one...DRK/THF CAN do a sneak attack..but Sneak Attack never impressed me when I subbed it, Yokadoma seemed to be more important to me than making a Critical Hit...sure your damage difference wasn't much, but hey, our chatacters are not fully developed yet, we'll see as we get to higher levels what the difference is...Awntawn informed us his damage dropped from100-150 a hit to 70-130 and his missing did not change much...that's a pretty big difference...of course I will level WAR and THF as my subs, and SAM as soon as someone gets a chance to test if they make too much hate...and I personally have concluded that DRK is THE most flexible job in the game...we have 3 different combos that are all vicious in combat and are all very schweet

Hmmm...not too sure about flexibility, I am a "conservative" DRK that likes to sub WAR In all honesty, I have no idea how a DRK/SAM is supposed to stare at the monsters ass though And DRK/THF will lose in a pissing contest to the all powerful THF/SAM

I was the highest LVL DRK/THF in beta, i did my job perfect. And i really didnt notice a damage difference from THF to WAR sub while PTed up.
As for DRK voking, its never expected, but when your in a PT and someone might die everyones gotta do something to take hate off that person, probably why i always started my OWN PTs.
In retail i will be a Mithran DRK/THF, other classes i might LVL will be PLD, DRG, SAM, and also war so that i can use it as a sub to a PLD. But my main and favorite sub is thief, once i get sneak attack and treasure hunter i can go NM hunting with my DRK as my main. Also i get Physical Attacks up with DRK and Physical Attakcs evasion increase with my THF sub.

At higher levels, berserk will boost your attack stat by around 70~80 points, giving an extremely significant boost. Also, dual swing is another killer passive. DRK/WAR can guillotine almost twice as fast as DRK/THF, and a berserk + guillotine outdamages a sneak + deceive guillotine by a good 100 points. The damage difference for standard hits is around 90 to 110, but when berserk is activated it's around 90 to 150. A very big difference.

lmao other than that like I said all PWNZ so can't we all just hush?
