  • Learning Smite of Rage from Poltergeists

I am well into level 26. Since the beginning of level 25 I have been trying to learn Smite of Rage from Poltergeists in Tahrongi. They are from the Evil Weapon family and they use this skill every fight, at least once.

The spell is level 34 so it is within the 9 level range from my current level. The Poltergeists are EP to me, and I try to make the fight last as long as possible, and then kill them as soon as they use it (though I have also tried letting them use it several times before I finish them off).

At an average of 30 pts per kill, over 5000 pts per level, and almost 2 levels of this fun attempt now, I estimate I have had Smite of Rage spammed on me almost 300 times now. I think that might be a record good for the Guiness book.

Has anyone tried to (and succeeded at) get Smite of Rage from anything lower than Qufim Evil Weapons? From Poltergeists? How long did it take you? And what level did you finally learn this spell from that mob at?

I am not discouraged at all. Took me several levels to get Healing Breeze, but, in that case, it was because it was rarely used during fights. This is different, so I just wondered if it was even possible to get this spell from this mob. If not, then, fun as it is, even though I am getting some experience too, I think I will move on to something else for a while.

    Thanks for your input.

I've read that as you get higher level, the acceptable gap between your level and the spell's level where you can still learn the spell gets smaller and smaller. I think in this case you may be working too far ahead. Come back and try to pick it up in a couple levels. Not like you're missing anything in the meantime.

Current theory is that the level gap that is allowed for learning blue magic shrinks from 10 to 8 at level 30.

Thanks. I had heard the change from 10 to a lower number of levels (in advance of when the spell can be used) was level 40 and above, but, you may be right.

I had hoped I would still be able to get experience but not be in too great danger to get this spell - but, it sounds as though I will either have to come back when the Poltergeists are TW or wait till I can fight higher Weapons solo without dying.

I am 8 levels now from 34 by the way - so when they say 8, I think they may mean 7 (just as when it is 10, it is really 9). Oh well. No hurry.

Edit to add: Just pretty well confirmed the number of levels in advance of which you can learn a spell when the spell is over level 30 = 7. First kill level 27 got me Smite of Rage. It is misleading to just say in advance of learning a spell after level 30 because it is the spell level which counts when assessing the level range you can learn a spell, not yours.

Not sure if this has been addressed before, but I've checked the stickies. I heard that if you fight an IT, it would be much easier to learn the spell than to say fight an Too weak. So can't I just take a 75 friend and have the mobs that con IT to me smack him around a bit until I learn the spells? Would this be much quicker than learning it solo?

Re: Learning Smite of Rage from Poltergeists

Although I have'nt tested it myself, I don't belive there is a higher chance of learning a spell based on difficulty of the mob. However with TW mob, I normally get one tp move from it before it dies but if I'm in a exp party fighting VT-IT the mob will probably get of 2-4 tp moves which gives you a better chance of getting the tp move you want. Getting a friend to help should make it quicker for you to get a spell because you should have less downtime and be able to get the right tp move quicker. I find I normally learn a spell after seeing the tp move a few times but getting the right tp move is the hard part.

You can't learn Blue Magic off of Too Weaks. They have to be at least Easy Prey.

Stickies said you can learn from too weaks though. I just heard it's a lot harder, not sure if anyone can confirm this. But anyhow, I'm only lvl 5 blu, so getting smacked around until mob has tp is really not too much of an option unless I want to die. I'm thinking about just taking my friends character and have the mob smack him around until he gets tp and hopefully use the right moves.

Re: Learning Smite of Rage from Poltergeists

You can learn from TW, I've learned Blood drain this way. It's just a lot harder to get the mob to 100% tp because they die too quickly.

edit: As a lvl5 Blu I was able to smack around and learn moves from Bees, Rabbits, Worms, Saplings and Ninja Plants (Whatever they're called). If you can get a friend to help, I see no reason why it should not work and you'll probably need help to get Claw Cyclone from tigers on time.
