Level 30 Black Mage Equipment?

I was wondering what equipment should I use up til level 30 when I get Summoner. Currently I have a Freesword's Staff, Erudite's Headband, 2 Eremite Rings, 2 Oynx Earrings, Solea(Feet, Mage's Sandals?), Mitts(Im thinking Scentless Armlets for hands?) Linen Robes(body, Priest's Robes?), Cotton Cape(Back) Linen Slops(Legs, Mage's Slacks?), Blood Stone(Waist, thinking about Friar's Rope), Justice Badge(Neck, Black Silkneckerchief?)
Please tell me if any of that is good but please help me make the nessicary changes. Only up til level 30 equipment though. I know you will probably suggest my RSE stuff at level 40, right?

Head: Horn Hairpin at level 30
Waist: Uh... get a Friar's Rope. They're cheap and extremely common.
Hands, Legs, Feet, Body: RSE when available. Don't bother upgrading these until then, its a waste of time and money.
Neck: Black Silk Neckerchief (relatively inexpensive)
Weapon: Get a wand for +INT. Also very inexpensive.
Rings/Earrings: Makes no difference at these levels, your Eremite's Rings are fine. No interesting and affordable earrings at that level (well, there's the new level 30 subjob latent earrings, but I don't think that those are in your budget range yet)

Head: I am still on Erd. Hairband for the +1 INT. I think it's better then hairpin, but if you need MP....

Waist: I have been using Merc. Captain's Belt (windy rank 3 CP) since 30. Again, for the +INT. Sheman's belt is another choice, but I like merc. Captain better.


I am still on Eremite rings. For earrings, I used black earring since 31, and swapped one for a enhencing earring at 40.

Sweet! I am Hume but my MP reserves hold out quite nicely with my juice adding Refresh to me. I think I will stick with the Erudite's Headband and my staff, I dont like wands, no offense IceMage its personal preference. I will get the Merc Belt at 30 and the Black Earrings at 31. But... what do Latent Earrings do? Just out of curiousity.

The lv 30 jub job latent earrings gives you a bonus with the corresponding subjob.


For example, the healer's earring give you -1 Enemity with /WHM, the magician's earring gives +30Mp with /SMN, and the warlock earring gives +1 MP heal with /RDM.

Main- Walrus Staff, Elemental Staves later.

If you're level 21 like your profile states, you've got a long, long, long way to go before you're in shouting distance of level 50. Generally speaking, you should only worry about spells/equipment within 10 levels of where you are. I'd even go so far as to say that only stuff within 5 levels is of immediate importance once you pass level 55, since the XP requirements to level increase so dramatically.

There's nothing wrong with planning ahead, but overplanning can get you in trouble too - if you have your heart set on getting item X 20 levels from now, what happens if the price quadruples by the time you get there? You're going to have to re-evaluate your gear constantly anyhow; it isfar too early for you to be concerned with level 40-50 gear unless you see an item that is quite obviously underpriced for sale.

P.S. Morion Earrings are SO overrated.

Custom Tunic lowers your Int so get some kind of Robe, lol. Frost Robe, Royal Squire's Robe, and Mage's Robe are available at 40 I think...

Range: Morion Tathlum, it has about the same stats as the earings but is much cheaper.

Main... get a wand. You can get soooo much Int from a club, and soooo little MP from that staff.
